Alice
“I am not wearing this out in public” I tugged the pink sequined covered material down over my legs, and instantly regretted it as more of my chest sprang out. I didn’t understand how girls felt comfortable going out like this. “There’s more material on my swimsuit”
“Exactly, we are in Vegas. Who brings a swimsuit and not a bikini”
I bit back the retort on the tip of my tongue. I was here for her and however much of a b***h she could be she was still my best friend, and this was still her hen party. Well hen holiday actually. One whole week of letting our hair down and doing things we wouldn’t normally do.
Well things I wouldn’t usually do, I corrected myself. There was nothing Casey wouldn’t do.
She knew my body hang ups; I didn’t look like her which was exactly the reason she had brought the dress to begin with.
“If it’s this short on me then how the hell do you wear it without flashing the goodies?” I slipped on my wedges sandals, my favourite ones with the diamanté straps.
“On me it’s a top” She was laughing as she surveyed me. “You look fantastic” She fluffed my hair back with her well-manicured nails, adding some oomph to my honey coloured locks. “Hopefully we will run into those guys from earlier” She nudged me playfully in the ribs and I had to take a step back or risk having my ribs cracked.
“What guys?” They had dragged me straight to the pool after we had checked in, not caring that I was jet lagged to hell after the flight from London and I hadn’t really been paying much attention to the people around her.
“Oh, don’t give me that, you know exactly what guys” She raised her eyebrows knowingly. “The ones who liked they had just stepped off the cover of GQ, they don’t make men like that back home” She added wistfully.
“Casey you are getting married in four weeks” sometimes I had to remind her, though I doubted she very much would actually go through with anything with anyone who wasn’t her fiancé. Like she said, she could look she just couldn’t touch.
She shrugged. “One defiantly liked what he saw” She skewered me with her eyes, and I felt the blush creep up again as we left the room behind us.
Yeah, I had noticed his gaze across the water, it was hard not to when he had been staring so blatantly, but I was also pretty sure he hadn’t been looking at me. No one really did, when I was next to Casey. It wasn’t that I wasn’t pretty, it was just that she shone a little bit brighter. “Don’t know what you mean, plus….” I trailed off as we linked arms, waiting for the elevator to open.
Casey wanted to go dancing, to drink fruity cocktails in oversized glasses and hit up a few clubs and as her nominated best friend I had to go with her. Even if Jet lag was seriously kicking my ass.
“If you mention his name, I am going to slap you”
I closed my mouth with a snap, pouting. It was easy for her. She had found a man who adored every single inch of her.
“I mean it Alice, he’s an asshole. Who never deserved you” The elevator doors slid open and I couldn’t help but cringe away as a dark head lifted. Eyes crinkling in the corner as he took us in.
Me in my short pink sparkly dress, which was really a top and Casey in her skintight red dress that made her look like some kind of s*x kitten. For a second even Casey paused and then she tugged me in next to her with a polite smile.
“Any man who would cheat on someone as beautiful and intelligent as you is a total tool Alice” Her voice filled the small space and I was acutely aware of the man’s eyes flick to me. His lips slightly pouted as his eyes roved up my bare legs.
“Casey” I hissed, why did she have to talk so loudly. Wasn’t it bad enough that I had been humiliated on one continent, she had to bring that s**t with us here and then almost shout it out in front of the most beautiful man I had ever seen?
“What floor ladies?” He paused with his hand hovering over the buttons, the cuff of his suit jacket rising an inch to show off a very expensive gold watch.
“Ground please” Casey’s eyes were appraising him wantonly, and she blew out a breath. Fanning herself with a hand behind his back. His lips quirked in a smile that told me he had seen exactly what she had been doing.
Ground swallow me up. NOW.
“I mean it Alice, after catching him” Casey voice faltered off, but I knew she wasn’t done. “Well I am so glad you decided to come along. I am sure we can find you a man to take your mind off it”
I flicked my eyes back up to the handsome stranger, who was lounging against the wall staring intently at his phone, but I knew by the smile that was playing across his face that he was listening to every word.
“That’s not what I’m here for” I couldn’t tear my eyes away from him. “I’m here to help you celebrate” It sounded lame even to my own ears.
“Getting laid is exactly what you should be here for though Alice, live a little”
He looked up from his phone then, and I froze in place as his gaze settled on my face. The smile was gone. There was a hint of anger in the line of his jaw that made me bluish scarlet.
He was the man from the pool, the one who had made me feel so uncomfortable as he had checked us all out. It had taken me a few moments to realize but I was pretty sure it was. He just looked different now he was dressed and didn’t have sunglasses covering his face.
He c****d one eyebrow as he caught me staring.
“Yes” Casey had carried on talking though I had no idea what she had been saying. “The only way for you to get over him is for you to get under someone else” She giggled; the girl really had no filter. “Pretty girl like you won’t be alone for long in a town like this”
