Slowly, I opened my eyes. The events of yesterday flooded through my mind. They played like a movie. A few tears slide down my cheek. What am I going to do? I need to find him.
Tears began streaming down my cheek. Suddenly soft breathing reached my ears. Someone had their arms around me. I turned my head.
“Get out of my bed,” I yelled before quickly wiping the tears from my cheeks. Hopefully, he won’t notice how puffy they are.
“What is wrong?” Jason, my dorky, sweet friend asked leaping out of my bed and shifting into his copper coloured wolf form, tearing his clothes in the process.
“What are you doing here?” I asked before letting out a groan. I grabbed a pair of basketball shorts and tossed them to him. “Hurry.” I turned around.
He chuckled. “Uh. I was lying in your bed,” he said, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
“I meant why?” I growled, crossing my arms.
“Your dad let me in.” he shrugged, “and you were shaking. That’s why I was in your bed. So I wrapped you up in my arms and you slowly stopped.”
“Oh.” I thought I locked my door. Jason looked at me with a half-smile playing on his lips. He has long brown hair and striking blue eyes. He was tall and muscular, like most werewolves.
“When I realized your door was locked, I figured you wouldn’t want me breaking it, so I came in through the window. I’m sorry about your window.”
“What?” I dashed over to my window, which had a hole in it. Broken glass was on the floor and the window was cracked, luckily the whole thing wasn’t shattered. “You could have knocked.” I gritted my teeth.
“I didn’t want to disturb you. Your dad said you had a rough time yesterday with that rogue,” he said softly. He took a deep breath before he paused to sniff the air. I hope he didn’t catch his scent.
“What’s that smell?” he took a step closer to me.
“What smell? I don’t smell a smell.” I shrugged. “I need a shower,” I said before dashing into the bathroom. “You show yourself out, since I need my room for my clothes.”
He groaned, “Fine, but we are talking later.”
I sighed. After taking a quick shower, I put shorts and a t-shirt on. The weather has been warm lately, which was perfect for air drying my hair.
“Breakfast is ready Savannah,” my dad said, his voice echoing through the house.
Covering myself with the perfume, I put extra on the mark before walking down the stairs and into the kitchen. Our house was huge, but we don’t usually share it with other wolves. Some packs have specific pack houses that they share with the Alpha, but my father prefers his privacy.
“What’s that smell?” my dad asked scrunching his nose.
“My perfume,” I said, trying not to smell myself. Werewolves don’t usually wear perfume and that’s because it messes with our werewolf senses, you can smell me a mile away, and since our smell was heightened we don’t get the same enjoyment out of perfume like the humans do. But it was still nice to have some, especially if we are trying to blend in.
“Eww, you stink,” Hannah said before covering her nose with her hand.
“Shut up,” I growled.
“Savannah,” My dad said, his voice hard.
I smiled at him and quickly ate my food before my perfume wore off. It wasn’t long before the perfume’s stench began to wear off and the mixed scents became noticeable. Time to get out of here.
“See you later, dad,” I said dashing out of the kitchen.
“Hold it.”
“Yes dad?” I asked. Please don’t smell me. If he noticed that I still smelled like that rogue, he would know something was up.
“Take your sister to her friend’s house,” he said.
“Fine.” Great I get to take my brat of a sister to her little minions. On the upside he didn’t smell me. “Come on Hannah.”
“Coming,” she said smiling. “Can we walk today?” Why was she being so pleasant today? She never smiles at me. It’s usually a frown or “I-hate-you-look.” I never understood why she hates me so much.
“Sure.” She usually says something insulting.
“Can I tell you something?” she asked once we left the house.
“Yup.”
“I can phase now,” she said quietly.
“What? That’s awesome,” I shouted.
She looked at her feet. “Really you think so?” She asked
“Of course. You’re growing up.” I smiled.
“I also have a question”
“Okay. What is it?” I asked.
“I want to know more about what we are.”
“Like what?”
“Mates”
I laughed before saying, “You’re too little.” I don’t even have my ma-I am claimed, it won’t matter if I have my mate or not. I hate this I was free to date or like whomever before that Sandy terror. I hate him. My stomach tightened.
“I know but how do you know if you have one?”
“From what I know, it is a ‘love at first sight’ experience. They also say that when you touch, you feel sparks, and you should feel drawn to him in an unexplainable way.”
She nodded “Oh cool.”
“So, when did you first phase?” I asked.
“Yesterday, I wanted to talk to you, but you didn’t open the door for me”
“Yeah I’m sorry about that. I had a bad day.” Yesterday, I shuttered.
“I’ll talk to you later and thanks.” She gave me a hug before running off to her friend’s house.
I was happy for her and wondered if she told dad. She phased younger than I did and certainly younger than most.
When she disappeared inside I took a deep breath, now for my problem. Where am I going to find that Sandy Demon?
I went to the edge of the woods where I met him yesterday. I recognized his scent. He got away from David. Following his scent, he was chased right out of our border. I had never left our border and dad said it was dangerous. Shrugging my shoulders I stepped across and closed my eyes, waiting for something bad to happen. Nothing happened. After all the stories I heard about leaving our border, I would have expected to be attacked.
I stayed close to my border. Awhile passed and I hadn’t picked up the sandy wolf’s scent. It seemed as if I had walked for hours before I smelled him. His scent led back onto our territory. Following it, it led to my house. He went to my room. I peeked through the broken window. Someone was there. He had shorts on and his back muscles rippled when he moved.
