It was sometime around 5pm that the Airbus landed in front of the great golden gate of Dalphia. Kelila was seated in the white coach beside Dr. Meyer and her son, Dayne sat facing them. She looked to them questioningly, wondering whether they should alight from it as she could feel the Airbus was no more in motion.
Dr. Meyer caught that quickly. "Oh no, sweetie, the Airbus is just folding in its wings." As if on cue, the Airbus jolted. Kelila winced.
Dayne smiled reassuringly at her, "Those are just its tyres popping out."
"Oh alright." Kelila acknowledged. But that was not why she winced. She had an injury at her right side, she hated to think of how she got it. She put a hand to her side and massaged it a bit.
Kelila looked around the coach. It was coated in gold. The cushion and furniture in it were white. Everything about it screamed "opulence!" This all must have cost Dr. Meyer a fortune, Kelila thought. Not that she would mind. Kelila remembered how the doctor had wanted to buy everything that could be bought for her at the boutique. Kelila had been thinking hard about how to decline without coming across as rude when Dayne had stepped in and saved her. It is still funny to her how the lady still packed three suitcases for her.
The Airbus was making its way into the school. There were other young adults strolling about. Some girls were seated in the lawn benches, chatting and giggling. There were guys playing in groups.
"Welcome to Dalphia." Dr. Meyer said to them, smiling so widely. "You're about to have the realest three years of your life." She held out her hands wide.
"Really, Mom?" Dayne scoffed. "I think some people are going to fake it. I heard some girls in my class back in high school planning how they are going to show up in this place."
Dr. Meyer laughed. "Oh please, everyone comes with plans. But you don't just go through Dalphia, Dalphia goes through you too." With her hand, she depicted going through a hole. "There's gonna be a lot of drama too. Your magic will be unlocked. New things would be happening in and to your body." She laughed again. "It's gonna be like hauling teenagers at the threshold of puberty into one small room and locking them up."
"Now that's messed up." Kelila said.
"Hell yeah! Just wait till you see it for yourself." Dr. Meyer said. The Airbus came to a gentle halt and Dr. Meyer jumped to her feet. "We're here!"
"You're more excited than we are, Doc." Dayne sneered at her as he also stood up.
The chauffeur and attendant opened the door for them. Dayne stepped out first and extended a hand to his mother courteously. Dr. Meyer took it and stepped out with the grace of a queen. "Thank you, Son."
"My pleasure always." Dayne bowed and released her hand.
Kelila stepped out on her own. The chauffeur and attendants had brought already her three suitcases and Dayne's one big duffel bag.
Before them stood a great tall building, its white outlook was brilliant.
Seeing Dalphia with her own eyes and no more through the coach window was in fact more beautiful to Kelila. "This place is a beaut." Kelila commented.
Dr. Meyer nodded and led the way into the building. "This is the Student Services Building. We just need to sign some papers now and get your access cards." There was a booth set up just in front of the building where a middle-aged man sat at a desk. They walked up to him.
The chauffeur and the attendant stood waiting with the Airbus.
"Good evening, Sir Earl." Dr. Meyer greeted the man at the booth. "I'm here as a parent and a guardian." She put her arms around Dayne and Kelila. Kelila could literally feel the woman's excitement.
"That's lovely, Dr. Meyer. It is also wonderful to see you again." Sir Earl replied as he sorted through some papers and spread them out on the desk. "Names and signatures, please." He smiled at the three of them.
After what felt like the most tedious fifteen minutes Kelila had ever been through, they all finally straightened up and dropped the pens.
"Thank you very much." Sir Earl retreived the papers and stood up. He clapped and gold dust poured on the papers from his hands and the papers disappeared. In their place appeared two purple files and two blue cards. Sir Earl smiled back at them. Dayne and Kelila were in awe.
"You're ain't seen nothing yet." Dr. Meyer chuckled.
Sir Earl handed a purple file and a blue card to Kelila. "Your information has been recorded and archived. The purple file contains all the information you need; the school map, your schedule, the handbook and so on." He pointed to the blue card, "That's your access card for your room and lockers."
Kelila smiled her thanks and took a step backwards. She did not notice the ball headed towards her and... Bam! The ball rammed right into her chest and bounced down and rolled away, leaving a dirt patch on her baby pink dress.
"Oh my! Sorry dear." Dr. Meyer came to her, there was concern written all over her face.
"Are you alright?" Dayne asked.
Kelila nodded, "Ah yes. I'm good." She looked in the direction of where the ball came from and there were two guys jogging up to them. One of them was fair and the other was brown-skinned.
Sir Earl noticed them too. "I guess they are the ones who threw it."
The guys came to a stop when they reached them. The fair brunet began to speak, "I'm so so..." His voice trailed off when he locked eyes with Kelila. His eyes were the bluest she had ever seen, but she wondered why he looked stunned.
His friend feigned clearing his throat and slapped him on the back, and he recollected himself. "I'm really sorry. It wasn't intentional."
"Nope, not at all intended." The darker one affirmed.
Kelila just nodded curtly.
"Sir Earl, please where are the bubble cabs to transport them to their suites?" Dr. Meyer asked.
"There's been an issue with the bubble cabs. But they would be available by tomorrow." Sir Earl explained.
"Oh, we can help!" The guys chorused.
"Oh, that would be nice, Jayden and Tyler." Sir Earl said.
"I'm Tyler." The dark one flashed a smile. "He is Jayden. And we're at your service."
Jayden smiled at her. "Which are yours, milady?"
Before Kelila could answer, Dr. Meyer walked over to where the chauffeur stood with their luggage. "These are her things, these three suitcases." Dr. Meyer patted the orange and gold suitcases, they were a set; two big and one small. "So, Jayden you should take these two big ones." Dr. Meyer smiled at him. "You're the man. She'd follow with the smaller one. You know the way to the female residence, right?"
Jayden nodded. Kelila noticed that Dr. Meyer's excitement was funny to him too.
"And you," Dr. Meyer turned to Tyler. "You're Tyler, right? Help my son please. The bag is so full and heavy. I would have loved for him to take another bag, but you know how stubborn you boys can be. So help him, I don't want him to hurt his shoulders. The both of you should carry it toge..."
"Dr. Meyer, breathe!" Sir Earl cut her off and they all laughed.
"Oh, I'm sorry. It's just hard to believe that they are both grown now and ready for Dalphia." Dr. Meyer said. "Dayne, Kelila, can I get hugs?" Kelila and Dayne took turns in hugging her and they said their goodbyes. "Bye, my loves. Dayne, you should take good care of Kelila." Dr. Meyer said finally and turned away.
"Goodbye, Dr. Meyer." Sir Earl said as he returned to his desk.
Dr. Meyer returned to the Airbus with chauffeur and the attendant and it drove out.
"Can I see your access card?" Tyler asked Dayne. Dayne showed him. "Yo, Jayden! He's our last suitemate."
Jayden went over to see Dayne's card too and he shook hands with Dayne. "We are the men of Suite 205. We're four actually. The fourth one's in the suite."
"Y'all should get going." Sir Earl said.
Jayden took the two big suitcases and Kelila followed him dragging the smaller one behind her.
Dayne and Tyler walked with them too.
As they walked, Tyler identified different places for them. Soon they got to a fork in the road. The female residence was on the left and the male residence was on the right.
"So we part here." Tyler said. "It was nice meeting you, Kelila." He said with a wave.
"Bye, Kelila. See you around." Dayne smiled. He and Tyler continued on in the right direction.
"I'm not leaving yet." Jayden grinned at her. "We're reaching your suite."
"Thank you." Kelila said. They continued walking.
"Oh please. No need to thank me. You can just see it as me making up for hitting you with a ball." Jayden waited for her to fall into step with him before he continued. Kelila did not reply.
When they got to the gate, it opened for them and closed when they had got in.
"There's the elevator." Jayden said. There was a line door beside the main entrance door.
"Oh that's great. Thank you very much for your help." Kelila said.
Jayden stared at her blankly. "I thought I would help till you reached your suite. The elevator would just take you to your floor."
"I would be fine." Kelila did not want him helping her upstairs. She noticed beads of sweat at his forehead, her bags were heavy, no doubt. She did not want to stress him any further.
"Oh, alright then, Lila." Jayden took the suitcases into the elevator.
"It's Kelila." She said sharply as she followed him in. No one had ever shortened her name before and she also did not like the sound of it.
"I prefer to call you 'Lila'. I like that." He stepped aside to give her room.
"I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't call me that. My name's Kelila. Thank you." She punched in her suite number and the door began to close.
Jayden held the door and stuck his face in. "You're really pretty...Lila girl." He smirked and released the door.
Kelila huffed, "It's not news to me." She hoped he heard that part.
When Kelila finally got to her suite, Suite 303, she took a deep breath. She was about to meet the people with whom she would be living for the next three years. She did not know what to expect, she hoped they would simply be nice people.
She placed her card to the sensor beside the door and the door opened. "Welcome, Kelila Bush." A voice that resembled that of an older lady said in the suite. She walked in with her luggage. A beautiful brunette rushed to help her get the last suitcase at the door. "Hi, I'm Madelyn, Maddie for short." She said with a lovely smile.
There was another girl in the suite, she had lovely caramel skin with dark curls. Kelila was glad to see she was not the only one with full curls. "You're welcome. I'm Star." The girl said. She was unpacking and arranging her things. It seemed like Maddie had been doing the same too as there were open suitcases lying on the bed Maddie returned to.
"Thank you very much, I'm Kelila." Kelila smiled at them and thanked Maddie.
"Hello, ladies." The voice from earlier boomed in the room and the door closed. "I'm Ruby, your room assistant. I perform a lot of duties. Feel free to tell me whatever you need." Then there was a beep. "An announcement just came in. You three are to report to the Nutrition Hall with the other students by 7 p.m. Ladies, you have seventy-five minutes to the set time. I am Ruby, at your service." It went off then.
Kelila looked around the suite, it was so lovely. Her house back in Diesel Town was a shack compared to this.
"You love the room too?" Star's voice pierced through her thoughts.
"Yeah, I do." Kelila said. She walked over to the available side of the room. Maddie had taken the center and Star had taken the right.
"You should check out the view through your window. You would love it." Maddie said.
A beep sounded. "You should check out the view at night. It would be much better to see when you don't have seventy three minutes left to report somewhere. Unpack, ladies!" Ruby said, and then in a calmer voice, "I am Ruby, at your service."
"Ruby's like our own personal nanny." Star said. They all laughed and returned to unpacking and arranging.
"I heard that!" Ruby barked, and then again in a calmer voice, "I am Ruby, at your service."
