“What do you mean what? What the f*ck was that…?” I shake my head at him with an irritated frown resting on my brows. There’s no way he’s choosing right now to be this clueless.
“I came to talk to Mallory…” He answers me vaguely and I can only feel myself becoming angrier as I take a step closer to him and cross my arms in annoyance.
“Yeah I can see that, but you ditched me to come talk to some girl?” I persist and Soren seems completely unfazed by my irritation, continuing to stare at me with confusion.
“Who is she?” I then ask her, feeling my heart race and pound in my chest as I interrogate him. Soren can be a little too friendly with the girls sometimes… he’s never done anything that he hasn't been able to correct with my simply talking to him and he's never cheated on me… but I believe there’s a certain boundary you have to set with people, especially with girls, ESPECIALLY, when you have a girlfriend. I don’t feel like I have to explain that to him constantly, and this scenario is just another one whether he’s choosing not to listen to me.
“Mallory… she’s on the cheer squad.” He answers me I begin gritting down on my teeth as my anger simmer. Why is he choosing now to waste my time?
“Gee Soren, I didn’t notice…?” I say sarcastically and he remains silent, genuinely not being able to understand why this has made me extremely upset.
“Seriously? You don’t see anything wrong with this?” I ask him, just for final confirmation, soon watching as he shakes his head slowly at me, looking around as if he is trying to see who is paying attention to us and who isn’t…
“No... I don’t…” He gives me verbal confirmation and that’s when I scoff at him, not believing that I really have to spell out something this serious to him.
“The way you were hugging her, it was way too intimate, and it makes me extremely uncomfortable…” I tell him, and the more I open up and the insecurity the dumber I feel. I thought he already knew this by now. Why is he putting me in this position?
And right when I expect him to finally understand where I’m coming from… he begins laughing.
“I think you might be overreacting a little…” He says to me, laughing right in my face. Did someone paint clown makeup on my face when I wasn’t looking?
“Overreacting?” I repeat what he just said, letting it properly sink in, and once it does, I only feel myself getting more and more upset. I really don’t have time for this sh*t.
Without warning, I tune on my heel and begin walking away from him.
“Babe come on…” I hear him call after me, soon feeling a hand grab only my wrist and tug me backwards slightly, the force of his tug preventing me from going anywhere.
“
“No. Don’t touch me. I’m going to class…” I snap at him, snatching my hand out of his grip and turning around to glare at him.
“Aria…” He tries to tell me and I continue walking away, walking backwards as I prolong my gaze on him.
“Go talk to Mallory.” I finally say out of spite before rolling my eyes and turning around to carry on walking, clutching my backpack as I walk away swiftly, taking deep breaths to try and keep myself calm.
I hear him calling after me and no matter how many times he calls, I continue to walk forward. This is the last thing I need before I write my quiz…
I head into the building, walking past individuals who seem to be scrambling for class, simply hanging around or talking about the Jessica situation. I never even got the chance to analyse the flyer properly… I just hope she is found soon.
Letting my mind wander results in me not paying careful attention to my surroundings, and as a result, I’m not paying attention to where I’m going, and end up bumping into something so hard, that it causes me to stumble back and even trip over my own feet.
“Whoa!” I gasp and I feel myself falling to the ground almost in slow motion. I prepare myself to feel the impact of the ground… but it never arrives. In fact, it’s like I’m hovering over the ground. I then frown to myself and realise that I’m actually being held and someone has their arms around me.
The smell of cologne overwhelms my senses, it’s intoxicating, and smells expensive. I then feel my body being pulled back, so I’m standing up straight, finally bringing my gaze to the person who grabbed hold of me.
“Are you alright?” A deep voice then grabs my attention, making my heart sink sharply and taking me by surprise. The person I’m staring at is a man with mysterious light brown eyes, with flecks of amber that seem to gleam under the natural light around us.
He seems to be biracial judging by his silky dark brown hair with a few golden highlights. His skin is about the same complexion as mine, being slightly lighter, making me curious about his ethnicity…
His jawline is well-defined, layered with a light, neatly kept stubble and a soft moustache. He is tall… much much taller than me, and standing opposite him makes me shrink in my shoes. He is wearing all black, the most notable thing he’s wearing is a black leather jacket.
I soon snap out of it once I realise that he basically has his hands around my torso, holding me carefully and close to him. He soon lets go of me and takes a step back and raises an eyebrow at me. And that’s when I realise I’ve gone too long without saying anything.
“Hello? Anyone home?” He then asks and I shake my head and begin frowning at him, remembering the whole reason why I’m even angry in the first place.
“Watch where you’re going…” I blurt out to him and he stares me down from head to toe.
“Hey, you bumped into me… and I’m pretty sure I just saved you from an embarrassing face plant…” He responds, his tone calm and relaxed as an amused smile plays on his lips.
“So what? You want a thank you?” I ask him and I don’t really mean to be this snappy to a stranger, but speaking Soren just riled me up so much, that I can’t really control what comes out of my mouth at this point.
“Maybe a, ‘I’ll watch where I’m going next time, and be a little nicer to strangers…’, darling…” He tells me and for some reason, this dude is making me much angrier than I initially was.
“Whatever,” I mumble before remembering I still have a test to get to. I give him one last irritated look before walking past him swiftly, hoping I can get to class before the test starts…
