Chapter 4

“Well ladies” Colton started as he dropped us at our room. “I will be heading home for a bit and see you guys later?” Maya looked at him rather funny and once they looked at each other something definitely went on. She started grinning and nodding her head before shouting “That’s a great idea”. I raised an eyebrow at the duo, wondering just what the hell happened. Sensing my confusion Colton laughed a bit. “Mind link. We can mind link and speak mentally” he answered.

“I see...that’s rather inconvenient.” They both looked at each other confused, wondering why I said that. “I mean...what if you’re reading her thoughts of something she doesn’t want you to know...like a surprise or something...sounds like cheating to me” Maya laughed, snorting slightly in the process. “That’s not how it works. Mind-linking requires permission, and after learning how to control it, it can be switched on and off at will, so no invading of privacy. Once you find your mate, it’ll make sense” I rolled my eyes at her and went into the room, leaving them to have a little privacy.

*Colton’s POV*

I watched Raj walk away, wondering why she was fighting this whole mate issue so much. Snaking my arms around Maya, I pulled her into the room’s bathroom, closing the door behind us. She smirked as her arms snaked around my neck, kissing my lips and moving her lips towards my neck. I couldn’t help but give out a low growl as I pinned her against the door, nibbling her neck until reaching her mark, nipping at it playfully knowing how weak it makes her within my grasp.

“That’s not fair” she moaned out, tilting her head in ecstasy. I smirked and ran my hands over her sides, my thumbs caressing the shape of her breasts before landing on her waist. “Want to wish me luck?” I asked her playfully. Hearing her laugh as she kissed me again just made everything within me twitch, and it took all my willpower to not take her at that moment. I knew if that happened, poor Raj would be scarred for life. “You’re going to need more than luck with Arkyn babes...you might need to pray he doesn’t rip your head off” she smirked. I nodded in agreement before pulling her into a passionate kiss again. “It is only my duties as his beta to get him out of that damn house and find his mate too” I whispered to her. I brushed a strand of hair from her face before kissing her nose. “Try to find out more about Raj…maybe we can get them together alone at the party” I wiggled my eyebrows with a grin and Maya did the same before we laughed together. “Roger that captain” Maya winked before her hand snaked behind my waist and grabbed a good chunk of my behind. I growled in warning, knowing that it was taking a lot of self-control at the moment.

She rolled her eyes at me before leaving me in the bathroom by myself. I took a few deep breaths, trying to calm my excitement enough for the bulge in my pants to shrink back. Shaking my body from the heat, I leave the room and head out.

“Oh Arkyn” I sing as I knock on the door to his office. “Go away Colton. Whatever you’re planning my answer is no” I opened the door to his office without waiting for him to let me in. He sighed and looked up, frustrated I interrupted his work. I smirked ant sat down on the chair opposite of his desk. “Soooo...party on Saturday...you have to come” I quickly say. Arkyn rolls his eyes before shutting them, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Colton, you and I know damn well know I don’t like parties. Why the hell would you even think I would say yes?” Arkyn questioned me. Arkyn stared at me with his icy blue eyes. I smirked even more as I looked at his physique. Oh, this might actually work out with the way Rajeira is. It’s like both of them have the same boring outlook in life. There's no fun in their denials of mates, so why not try to put the two who hate mating the most together?

“Listen Arkyn, I may annoy you to dear death most of the time, but as your beta, and as your friend, I’m telling you, this will be a very surprising night for you” Arkyn raised an eyebrow and leaned back on his chair. “Give me one good reason why I should listen to you. I already graduated last year, why would I go back to the campus? To be surrounded by horny eighteen-year-olds? I’m twenty-two. I don’t have time for games” I lean in my chair, mirroring his own action and raised my right leg over my left knee, holding onto my ankle as I eye him once more.

“What if I tell you there’s a new wolf in town, without any prior pack relations?” Arkyn leaned closer to the desk, his eyes narrowing. “What do you mean? This entire state is practically our pack. How would a rogue be living in this town without us knowing about it?” he demanded. I raised my hands to calm him down for a bit before I spoke. “She’s not a rogue. At least, she doesn’t come off as one. She has a sweet smell, but I couldn’t sense much from her. My wolf couldn’t even sense her wolf at all. Like she’s human, but a wolf if that makes sense” I tried to explain. He raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

“And this...new wolf will be at the party I presume” I grinned and nodded, leaning forward. “It’s actually her birthday on Saturday, so Maya and I wanted to at least celebrate her adulthood in that party. She’s rather awkward with herself, and she’s never lived around other wolves except her mother. So this might be a good idea for her to be introduced to the alpha in this town, and also learn how our pack runs around here” This was by far the loadest bull I’ve ever had to spew out, but knew that by trying the diplomatic approach, Arkyn might not see this as an attempt at finding a mate and more of just another alpha duty.

After what felt like hours sitting in silence, Arkyn nodded slightly. “Fine...I’ll go, but if I see the usual s**t that you try to put me through, I’ll slice your d**k off and feed it to the rogues” Arkyn responded. I smirked and stood up, bowing slightly. “Oh thank you merciful alpha” I joked. Arkyn chuckled a bit and shooed me away to finish his work.
