Alpha Leon’s POV

Getting to know the new hire is going to be interesting, I know I am going to have to be hard on her. It kind of pisses me off she thought about working free here, and then Rebecca didn’t bother to tell me she was doing it. I don’t know who to be mad at, I guess, both of them, but I know I have to keep my head straight.

“No kidding.” My wolf said. “She is different.”

“What do you mean? I can see she is hiding from something or someone. She is guarded.”

“Keep her safe,” he said without another word.

“Keep her safe?” I said out loud.

I don’t understand what he is talking about. I have enough crap to deal with, I don't know anything about the girl, and well, I am sure she isn't going to be upfront about it her life.

I know I have to gain her trust, and it might not be as easy as I think. It should be. But being the head of the Mafia isn't something that I did easily.

You see when my ex-partner betrayed my pack and then me, I decided to kill his father out of revenge.

After that, his wolves and the rest fell into place. Of course, some wolves wanted a price inside that time for them, so they were killed or fought and died either way. I have the attention of the rest.

I know Sebastian might come after me for killing his chances at being the most powerful man there was, but I am. Ot worried as he wasn't much of a leader. Jake, my wolf, has made a point to throw. people around and I let him, but he hasn't been the same for a few days.

"Jake."

"Hm?" He answered.

I could tell he wasn't going to tell me anything, but I had to know why he wanted me to protect the girl. I want to press him on this but he will tell me when the time is right I hope. I close my eyes for a moment to try and figure out what he isnt telling me but a headache is coming. I can tell this is going to be a long day, but at least tonight I get to spend some time with her and see what she is like.

My first impression of Abby is she is scared or new to the area, I wonder where she is from. Maybe it has something about her in the application.

"I want to know more about the girl and why you feel I need to protect her. So." I said shifting my weight in my chair. I hope he isnt going to not tell me something. If he would only give me a hint.

"You're so naive." He said, rolling his eyes. "Her Alpha is going to come looking for her, and you better not let him take her." He warned.

When he is serious, I can tell I should listen to him. but she has an Alpha? I don’t smell a wolf on the girl so that cannot be right. If I am going to have another Alpha coming here demanding I turn her over, I don’t know what I will do.

Yeah if she belongs to his pack then I am going to have to, but what if she is here because she doesn’t want to be around her Alpha? What if he was the reason she left her pack and took a chance here in this city? This city isnt for the innocent, with all the sin and crime here I don’t know why she came here.

“What do you mean her Alpha?” I snapped at him annoyed. “You know if he does come here and demand things I don’t know what I am going to do.”

“Well she isnt a rogue wolf so she belongs to someone, and he will come back for her. You know Alpha Tate in the area, maybe you should go and talk to him and see if he is missing someone in his pack. You might be able to find out why she ran away from there.”

“Alpha Tate? The Mormon in the woods?” I laughed. If she left his pack then I understand why she did. That Alpha is pathetic and I could take his pack from him if I wanted to, but they are so small it didn’t matter. “I am going to go and see him, but I am not going to ask him if he is missing anyone. Maybe I will challenge him to a match loser gets the girl?”

“You would wouldn't you?” he whined at me. “She isnt a game piece in this, she is someone you need to protect and I am not going to tell you anything else, she will be the reason a war breaks out so you better get your ass together because you will lose everything if you don’t pay attention to the details in front of you,” he said before cutting me off.

What the hell?

I want to know more about her, I need to find Rebecca of course she is struggling with the donuts.

“Are you having issues?” I asked.

“Well since the new girl isnt here right now, I have to do this and you know how much I hate having to touch this stuff,” she whined. “But I’ll be fine, it's only a few more hours before I have to do anything, did you need something?”

“Yeah, I want to know more about the new girl, where is she from? Where is her application?” I asked.

“Oh she isnt from here.” she smiled. “I accidentally ruined her application so I tossed it.”

“You know you’re not supposed to do that, why didn’t you have her fill it out? I need it for my paperwork and well you aren't doing things right and you know how much that pisses me off.”

“Sorry.” she sighed. “I will have her do another application when she gets here, it was hell the day she came in here, I was going to have her fill it out but I forgot.” she sighed. “I promise things will be better once she is trained.”

Rebecca is pissing me off, I don’t know why she thinks these things aren't important. I guess I am going to have to look into things a little more.

“Do you know where she is staying?” I asked. I didn’t want her questioning why I wanted to know these things but maybe she would just tell me and not give me any issues about it.

“That shitty hotel, she doesn’t have a lot of money so it's most likely all she could afford.” she laughed. “Why?”

“No reason,” I said before walking away from her.

I knew she was going to keep pressing me on these questions, I didn’t want her to know what I was doing and I didn’t want her telling Abby I was looking into her. I cannot shake this feeling my wolf is right about her, but she doesn’t smell like a wolf. Maybe she is covering it because she knows her pack will come and find her here.

“Alec.” I mind-linked him, he is my Beta and the one who takes care of my pack during the day while I am here.

“Find out if Alpha Tate is missing someone and if he is actively looking for her.”

“Her?” he mused. “Crush?”

“Not now.” I snapped. “She works with me, Jake tells me to protect her, but won't tell me anything else so I don’t know what he is hiding.”

“Jake hiding something from you? That doesn’t sound like him, maybe she is there to kill you,” he suggested.

I didn’t think she could kill me even if she was here to do that, but that is something I am going to have to worry about even though like I said I doubt she is here for that. “I don’t think so, but I will watch my back in case she is here as a distraction, I want to know if he is missing someone. Don’t go to him about her because if she is hiding from him then we are going to have to protect her and see what the reason is she came here.”

“Fine, give me a couple of hours, I’ll stop by the diner, I want to meet this girl.” he mused.

“She won't be here until tonight, that is another thing I will be late tonight since I am closing the diner with her. This will give me time with her and it will give you time to find out more about Alpha Tate and if he is missing her and what else is coming.”

“Most likely a baby Alpha coming to claim someone that doesn’t want to be with his pack, she isnt rogue?”

“I didn’t know she was a wolf.”

“I’ll be there tonight with the information you requested,” he mused.

I didn’t say anything, I cut the link now the wait to evening, I know I am going to have to ask her questions but I don’t know if she is going to answer them, I hope she doesn’t run away because I want to know why she is in my city.
