CHAPTER 30 Maybe I shouldn’t say this to you, but I usually lose interest about ten minutes into a sermon. Sometimes I sit and read the Bible, but there aren’t any close enough. I’d have to get up and walk back to the entrance where a few extra copies lie. So instead I study the backs of all the heads in front of me. The only one I don’t know personally is the pastor’s wife, but of course Mom’s told me enough gossip about her I could probably write several chapters of her biography. There’s Joy with her squirming son. Her daughters must be downstairs in the nursery. I can’t see any of her face from here, but her husband looks stern. At least he does in profile.
