Chapter 2

1435 Words
Jayda had been walking back and forth inside her room since the incident, cupping her face and still thinking about what happened earlier. She couldn’t calm herself down even though she drank a lot of water. It was no use. Biting her nails, she sat on the bed and shut her eyes. “Jayda, think. Come on!” she uttered, forcing herself to come up with a good explanation about what she had witnessed. As worried as she was earlier, she grabbed her pen and her notes which she had a lot for her story outlining and drafts. She marched near the door and imagined how the body was there lying dead the moment she saw it. Jayda started to jot down all the details she remembered. She stared at the body enough, so she was certain of how she looked like. She was fair-skinned with a normal height, had a shoulder-length black hair who wore a plain white shirt and ripped jeans. A dead without any blood dripping nor a stain from her clothes. Even a slight bruise was out from her sight. Could that be possible or maybe she didn’t just notice? But what was really alarming for Jayda was its disappearance for she was really certain about that dead body. “I think I’m going crazy! How did that disappear so quickly?” she said almost annoyed. No need to worry because Jayda was used to talking with herself. Brainstorming and having a discussion with herself alone was what she was doing for three straight years for being a part time writer. “Okay. What more?” As she bit the ballpen after a couple of writings, she went back to her bed and sat there. No. That was not enough. How would everyone believe her if she was the only one who saw it? Goddamn, CCTVs! Useless! she had thought to herself before she threw the objects back to her study table. After several breaths in and out, she finally thought of having a warm half bath for herself. She glanced at the wall clock and it read 1:47. “I should be asleep by this time,” she had murmured, wagging her head before she inched towards the bathroom, but she halted. Jayda was startled by the loud noise coming from her phone. It was ringing and she was confused by the thought of it. Who could be calling her in the middle of the night? She had pressed her nape before she went back to her bed, looking at the bright light flashing from her phone. Her forehead creased upon seeing that it was Faris. “Babe?” she uttered after she pressed the answer button. “What’s wrong? You are supposedly sleeping by this time.” Faris, on the other line cleared his throat. “You, too, should be asleep. What are you doing? Um... writing?” It was new to Jayda that Faris was actually calling her twice already with a little time interval. However, she pulled a smile on her lips. “Well, no. I ditched my writing schedule. Something happened, but it’s... it’s nothing. Actually, I’m about to take a shower,” she answered. But nothing could’ve prepared her to what he said next. “Then that’s great,” said Faris. “Let me see you naked, Babe. I miss you.” Jayda gasped out of surprise. “What?” She had bit her lower lip before she giggled. “You’re crazy.” “Hey, I’m serious!” Faris protested. “Come on.” “No. Stop it, Faris!” Instead of obeying Jayda’s wish, Faris teased her more. “Babe, come on. Just give me a nice show just like before. Will you dance for me again... naked? Please?” pleaded his boyfriend, but Jayda just bursted out laughing. “You’ve gone mad, Faris. No... no, you pervert.” Faris laughed. He said, “Why? You liked dancing naked in front of me as I caressed your—” “The f**k, Babe! Stop it!” The both of them laughed in chorus. How insane could that be! Just as Faris set his tone of confidence, he said, “But I’m sure you liked it.” Jayda was sure that Faris was smirking widely on the other side. “Yeah, you asshole,” Jayda giggled out of her boyfriend’s craziness. Faris maybe cranky, but he could surely make Jayda laugh hard at times. “Can you make it for me, Babe?” Faris’ pleading voice tickled her ear. If he was just beside her, she could probably be sealing his lips with hers now. But still, she couldn’t believed it, so she shook her head as she imagined her boyfriend pouting his lips. “No, Faris. You’re insane. Just... just come home if you want to see me... naked,” she jokingly said. “I could probably see you naked as well if you’re here with me. Just to be fair.” “You’re naughtier that I thought, Babe.” Faris laughed. “Alright. Go ahead, take your time, and have a good night. I just checked you.” That was sweet. “Um. Okay. You better go to sleep. I love you.” “I love you too.” Then the call ended. Does saying ‘I miss you’ requires being naked now? Jayda had chuckled in her thought before she made her hair into a bun, then finally stepped inside the fancy bathroom. She had breathed before she stripped down, stepped slowly into the tub, turned the water on high, and let it beat over her head in steamy rivulets. She leaned against the cool tiles as her weak legs were threatened to buckle, and closed her eyes as the heat of the water soaked into her skin. The sensation of the steamy water calmed her. A slight moan coming from her echoed inside the bathroom. She even let out heavy breaths simultaneously. “What a nice feeling,” she uttered as she started to scrub her naked body. Her legs were entwined that she felt her thin curls in between. “I should trim those little hairs, so I won’t worry about it during my period,” she whispered under her breath as she counted the days before her monthly period. “That’s two days from now.” Not to mention, but it was easier for Jayda to clean herself when trimmed. She smiled. It had took her 30 minutes inside the bathroom before she finally get back to her bed with pajamas on. As soon as she dried her hair using a blower, a red cloth pinned in between her cabinet doors caught her attention. “Oh, Jayda,” she whispered, wagging her head. It was just her crocheted red scarf. She inched towards the cabinet, opened it, and arranged her clothes. But for some unknown reason, she stared at the scarf for a couple of seconds. “Red...” she mumbled. Until she remembered something that she almost ran back to her study table. She grabbed her pen and her notes to add another information she might use. Red scarf, she noted as she started to pace back and forth again. “Yes, that’s for sure. She was wearing a red scarf,” she said to herself. But at the back of her mind, she was hesitant. Could it be worth spending her time? How long before she could unveil the truth? Would she be able to do it or was it just a mere and not-so-good hallucinations of her because of alcohol? Jayda almost threw herself on bed, arms and legs widespread, and eyes closed. “I should sleep. I better go to sleep now...” Jayda was tired and confused, so it was not long before she fell asleep in that position. On the other side of the card, Faris had been drinking for awhile now inside his lodging. His room was messy that could be compared to an abandoned house. Dusty floor, faded wall paints, and debris were all scattered around; that alone were the easiest way to explain where Faris was. A stockbroker with a business trip to Switzerland yet staying inside a stock-room-like place? It would be a great confusion for Jayda if she would find this out.
