~Tamir’s PoV~ When I go to my bed that night, sleep refuses to come. Normally, I work myself to the point of exhaustion each day so that when my head hits the pillow, my mind has no energy left to torment me. Tonight, though, it doesn’t work. As soon as I close my eyes, I see the burning buildings and smell the roasting flesh. The smoke stings my eyes and my hands sear with pain as I try to push my way into the house, until the others pull me back. My eyes open again and, with a weary sigh, I get back up. It’s no use lying there and tormenting myself, so I go downstairs, avoiding the room where the humans are caged, and head out into the woods instead.
