Engagement

1024 Words
William and Samantha gracefully entered the venue and Henry happily welcomed them. He looked at Samantha and asked, “Samantha, how do you like the arrangements, dear? Dad did his best to meet all your requirements. How is it? Do you like it?” He looked like an innocent child waiting to get praised for the work he had done. At this moment, he had forgotten all about the cold war that was going on between the both of them. He was too excited about his daughter’s engagement to care about those issues. Samantha’s lips twitched at her father’s excitement, but what could she do? There were guests all around them. There is no way she could ignore him in front of them and insult him, right? Hence she smiled and nodded her head and spoke in a nasal voice, “Yes, Father. Everything looks perfect.” Only after speaking did she realize that her nose had turned sore earlier and her voice turned hoarse. She was really touched by the arrangements her father had made for her, after all. Samantah herself was shocked at her sudden difference in voice. She wasn’t supposed to be touched by this, and yet she was. What should she do? She did not know! Though her Father took her mate away from her, his love for her was too much to let it go unnoticed. Henry too noticed the change in her voice and the rims of his eyes turned red instantly. He turned his head sideways and used his hand to clear away the tears that just slipped out of his eyes. Samantha and William both were shocked by this sight. Henry shed tears for his daughter’s sake. How could a Father that loves his daughter so much be said to be cruel? They did not speak anything though. If Henry wanted to hide his emotions from others, then they would pretend to not notice too. Samantha’s grip on William’s hand tightened as she tried her best to control her emotions. William felt the changes in her emotions and slowly patted his hand over hers to comfort her. As her friend, he would be there for her. This was his promise to her at this moment. Samantha looked at him and gave him a sweet smile as he understood his unspoken promise. Henry was elated when he looked at this sweet exchange between his daughter and his soon to be son-in-law. He then guided them inside and started the event. The entire party went smoothie and by the end, Samantha and William both got a ring each on their fingers that showed that they were not single anymore but were engaged. Samantha and William had to greet the guests and they were walking hand in hand like a perfect couple in front of everyone’s eyes. Samantha’s smile had always been sweet as she looked at anyone that greeted her. Looking at her smile, William couldn’t help but ask her a question softly, “I always wanted to ask you something.” “What is it?” “Why is it that you were never scared of me?” Maybe because William had always been cold and never talked to anyone, there was no one that dared to come near him since his childhood, let alone smile and talk to him like a long lost friend. But from their first ever meeting, Samantha had never once shown any hint of fear or repulsion towards him. She had always acted like a warm friend towards him and gave him a warm welcome. No matter what she was a soft young lady who was pampered since childhood. He had seen many burly men cower in fear in front of him for no apparent reason. But how could this soft and pampered princess-like woman be this carefree in front of him? In fact, shouldn’t this type of women be even more scared to come anywhere near him? Samantha once again showed her signature smile to him after listening to his question. Then she placed her index finger on her chin and tapped- clearly pretending to be thinking of the answer that she already had in her mind. William visibly rolled his eyes at her pretentious act and Samantha laughed out loud at his action, “Did you see? You are not scary. You are just like any other person that would act natural. Why should I be scared in front of you?” William’s lips twitched as he knew that though what she said were the words from her heart, there is more to the answer and it was not the end. As expected, Samantha continued, “Actually, yeah, you may look a little bit scary. Not because you look ugly or hideous. Instead it was because you always look cold and don't like to speak. Living beings naturally evade anything cold and are attracted to anything warm. That doesn’t mean that everything that is warm is good and everything cold is bad, right?” William nodded his head seriously. Her words are really on point and also were too deep. So deep that if one were to not know how intelligent Samantha was, they would be stunned to hear such words from a sunny and happy go lucky woman like her. Luckily, Samatha had already displayed her intelligence on the previous day where they had a good chat with each other. Hence he was not shocked by her deep words. Instead he felt a little touched. She is not someone that would judge a person by their looks. Instead she would judge them by their personality. She talked to him and understood that he was someone that just doesn’t like to talk. But that doesn’t mean that he was a bad man that should be kept at one arm’s distance for no apparent reason. Even if he was a man of few words, he was good from heart. He even treats her like his good friend even after a small conversation. How could she be scared of such a good friend? Wouldn’t she be too cruel if she did that?
