It was much later, when Rose had finally gotten into a change of clothes and she was laying back in bed, that Xavier entered her room again holding a tray with a bowl of soup on it. He sat on a chair next to her bed, watching her warily.
“I asked Lorraine to make you some clear soup.” He spoke finally, settling the tray in her lap.
Rose's throat clicked as she swallowed. “Thanks.” She took the tray from him but couldn’t manage more than a few sips.
After much deliberation, Rose put the spoon down and looked at Xavier who seemed to be looking at the ground with a set jaw.
“Thank you for helping me.”
