Chapter 40

Meghan's POV I asked for a group of men to clean the cannons so we could ship it off to Farrell. If he asked for Cannons, then that can only mean that he finally decided to make a move. I am overseeing everything by myself and the group of men took a break to eat and then to get back to work. These cannons that we have, are fairly larger compared to the usual ones and I don't think any other werewolf pack has these. I remember Serena often telling Farrell that the cannons are supposed to be used as the last straw to win any crucial war because it is capable of taking lives in hundreds of numbers. I don't know what made Farrell take this step. But I am glad he is just ending it already. Once everyone left, I closed the garage and walked towards the valley. It is about time for the sun to set. The sunsets here at the valley are the most beautiful things one can witness. But I noticed the small plants dead again. Someone stepped on them. Again. I wish I had werewolf abilities. I would have tracked the scoundrel by the scent and show them what it means to be careless. "O Terra. matri carissimae. Flore quo fulges magicis. Vita vigeat. Vivamus vitae. o Terra. matri carissimae," "O Terra. matri carissimae. Flore quo fulges magicis. Vita vigeat. Vivamus vitae. o Terra. matri carissimae," "O Terra. matri carissimae. Flore quo fulges magicis. Vita vigeat. Vivamus vitae. o Terra. matri carissimae," The small plants sprang to life easier than the last time, telling me that whoever it was that killed them did it not too long ago. I guess I just missed them by a minute. I walked to the pack house when Erica told me someone's waiting for me. They might be waiting for Farrell probably. But since Farrell is still at his conquering stage, I am the only other option left so I have to see who it is and what they want. "Oh. The guest just sent me again to fetch you," Charlotte says and now I am curious about this guest who keeps sending people once every minute to fetch me as if I was his dog who somehow forgot the way back. "Who is this guest?" I ask Charlotte and I wonder how she knows him, if the only place she's ever been at is her house, the valley and the w***e house. "He stopped by searching for you," she shrugs and I feel even more curious now. He searched for me?! At the w***e house. So he thought I was a w***e? Or the madam of the w***e house? Whatever he thought, I am slightly offended by it. I don't speak to Charlotte as we both walk towards the pack house. I don't know why she is walking towards it and not the w***e house. I am not really looking down on her, but I guess I am just a little ashamed that someone literally mistook me for one of her whores. I walk into the pack house but Charlotte goes straight to the guard to talk about something. I stopped for a second to see she was collecting coins and I guess that's a part of her job. I shake my head and walk inside to see a man standing, as he faces to the other side. His back is facing me and I clear my throat so he would turn around. Once he turned around, I knew who he was. The one who fought the guys two years ago. The one who apparently sent the shoes for me and the one who kept on calling them useless the night we first met. I still don't know his name though. "Hi Meghan," he smirks and I gulp, because that is by far the most attractive thing I had witnessed. "Hello," I whisper and take a couple of steps forward. I don't know what to do or what to say. And he is just standing there with a smirk on his face. "I hope I didn't catch you at your busiest time," he shrugs and I scoff. "You really thought I was a w***e?" I ask him, and this time he just chuckles as he takes a step towards me. "Well, I thought the quickest way to gain someone's attention is by a misunderstanding," he says and I hate that he has a point. I didn't give a s**t when someone said there was a guest but I walked like I was on fire when Charlotte said he searched for me at the w***e house. He made his point clear. "Well, what's your name and why are you here?" I ask him, because I want him to be gone so I can get back to checking if Cannons are ready to be sent to Farrell or not. "Name is Seth," he says and his vague response is making me grow irritated. I wait for him to say something else as I take in his appearance. He is well built. Almost as tall as Farrell and maybe slightly taller even. Muscles all the way and I bet he has dimples if he smiles properly instead of smirking all the time. His brown hair and brown eyes work well with the perfectly sculpted face. Maybe Angels did their best to show their work off in the form of him. "No. It's the Devil's work," Seth says and I widened my eyes and opened my mouth in surprise when he answered to what I thought in my mind. I am sure I didn't say that out loud. "What? How?" I ask him, purely speechless. "You can say it's one of my gifts," he smirks as he takes another step closer to me. "I am Seth. Born to a werewolf and a warlock. A hybrid that's so rare.. oh wait, no one like me exists so I guess I'm the only one," Seth says. Oh what levels of boasting we reached in the supernatural world. "I guess we should. Else how would people get to know about us?" He asks me back and I groan out loud. He cannot stand there, read minds and say it out loud. It's embarrassing honestly. "Okay. Why are you here? What do you want from me?" I ask him, tapping my foot against the ground and he just shrugs. "One date, maybe?" He asks and I laugh. "Get out, and never come back. Oh wait, I'll give you the shoes back. I don't need them anyways," I say and he is the one who laughs now. "One date and I will never ever meet you if you don't want me to be around," he says and I roll my eyes. "Lady Meghan, the workers are ready to get back to work. They say it's almost done and you need to check if it's ready to be shipped," one of the guards informs me. I resist the urge to think of what they are talking about. Whoever this person is, I can't let them know of Farrell's next move. "Alright. A week from now," I say and he nods before disappearing into thin air. I exhale out loud and turn around to face the guard. He bows to me and walks away, giving me a way to go see the cannons and approve if they are ready to be sent. I actually think I did a great job by not thinking of Cannons. I didn't even say that word in my mind. I didn't think so. So his name is Seth and he is the rarest of hybrids? He might as well be bluffing but a week later, Farrell will be here however. So I guess it will all be alright by then. "O mater, o terra cara. Ostende mihi viam rectam. Puerum tuum duc ad viam qua pervenire debet. Haec enim anima tua est, et vita intra te est. O mater. O terra cara," I whisper to myself as I slowly walk towards the garage where the cannons are kept. "O mater, o terra cara. Ostende mihi viam rectam. Puerum tuum duc ad viam qua pervenire debet. Haec enim anima tua est, et vita intra te est. O mater. O terra cara," "O mater, o terra cara. Ostende mihi viam rectam. Puerum tuum duc ad viam qua pervenire debet. Haec enim anima tua est, et vita intra te est. O mater. O terra cara," "O mater, o terra cara. Ostende mihi viam rectam. Puerum tuum duc ad viam qua pervenire debet. Haec enim anima tua est, et vita intra te est. O mater. O terra cara," I feel the change in the energy as I close my eyes. I can't seem to locate Farrell's bracelet. I gave that as a talisman to him and asked him not to remove it. The power is still there. But I just can't seem to locate it. Maybe they need the cannons now more than ever. Maybe they need it right now. "O mater, o terra cara. Ostende mihi viam rectam. Puerum tuum duc ad viam qua pervenire debet. Haec enim anima tua est, et vita intra te est. O mater. O terra cara," I keep chanting but fail to locate him. So as soon as I looked at the cannons, I gave them approval and asked them to ship those as soon as they could. I quickly walk back to the pack house and pen a letter but this time I write it for Sebastian instead of Farrell. The more I am worried about him, the more I am convinced that I actually love Farrell and I was only telling myself that he's a friend. I decide to send it through magic to the letterman who I am going to locate, the nearest to the camp where Farrell and Sebastian are there. That way it will get there faster. . . Sebastian, I cannot seem to locate Farrell's talisman. I just want to know if he is safe or not. If he is not, then I will be on my way. I want to come right now but there is no one to look after the pack. Do write back to me in an instant. And please please help Farrell if he is in danger. You know the witches are against him. And his entire life had been on thin ice. I don't want anything to happen to him and if anything happens, then I am going to draw blood with my magic on the battlefield. You stay safe too. I can't bear losing any of you! . . Oh I only hope Farrell is safe and he is hanging there for Sebastian. And maybe while the cannons are on their way, I guess I need to do something too. But I indeed meant what I said. I am not going to hesitate using magic with violence if something happens to Farrell. Because to me, he matters more than the vows I took as a witch. I would use my last bit of power to save him if that's what it takes. . . . . . . Aylee's POV It still feels surreal, having dinner with my family like this. My father invited Rowan as well since he is living alone and moreover, my father likes him. He even joked about giving my hand in marriage to Rowan if I don't find my mate. Too bad my father doesn't know about Colton. Or maybe he is just good at acting. "You did a great job, little stone" Rowan tells Arya and she just shrugs. "I don't know. I just told him the truth," Arya says simply, even though she knows she just made a difference by showing my father who I truly am. His daughter and the rightful Alpha that has nothing to do with gender. A guard walked in and told me that Alpha Farrell wants to talk to Arya. She shoves the rest of the food into her mouth and stands up. "Are you sure?" I ask Arya but she just smiles telling me that it's okay. "He is my Alpha. The one who sent me here for a better life. I bet he wouldn't harm me," she says and walks out without turning around. Rowan then muttered something under his breath about Farrell. I don't know if I think of Farrell as a good man or a bad one. He killed many Alphas mercilessly but he is still not making a move on me. Now I can be quick and witty at times, but I know that Farrell already knows about the hot wolfsbane. That was why he asked me the question earlier today. If he knows all about it, then why is he still at the camp and not attacking me already? Arya told me that Farrell wants me to win. Farrell gave me tips on how to win if he ever wages a war against me. My foot on his throat was what he said. As if I'll do whatever he says. "Aylee?" Rowan calls me and I snap back into reality. I look at my family and they are all staring at me, a little amused. I smile at them and shove a forkful of Mac and cheese into my mouth only to find that it's not Mac and cheese. I look into my plate and I see curd topped on strawberry cake and some salt instead of sprinkles. I thought I was serving myself some cake but I didn't know I was too deep in thinking that I put this on my plate. No wonder my family looked at me totally amused. I excuse myself and walk out once I am done with my dinner. Arya still hasn't returned and the sun is already setting. I yawn but I catch a glimpse of the letterman going towards the enemy camp. I sent my own man to get that letter to me just so I can replace it with the one of my own. And I waited patiently in my office until I got the letter. The seal says it's from Meghan and by the near and fine handwriting it is now clear that the one who wrote the letter at first was her. But why did she write it in Farrell's name? . . I can't bear losing any of you! . . . What? She cannot locate Farrell? Then where is Arya? I get up and run towards the borders only to meet Arya halfway and she looks at me confused. "Are you okay?" I ask her and she nods, then looking at me if I have an explanation on why I was running. "Who did you talk to? Is Alpha Farrell missing?" I ask her and now she looks at me concerned, as if I am delusional. "I talked to Alpha Farrell. He asked me if I was doing fine, which I was. And I don't think he went missing because he was getting ready to go somewhere. His horse was outside and I came back to the borders long ago. I talked to him for less than five minutes," Arya explains to me. Then what's happening? "What is Beta Sebastian doing?" I ask Arya again. "He received a letter from Meghan and kind of looks happy?" Arya asks me back and then leaves before I ask her something again. So I missed a letter. And this was the second one. What did she say in that? And what is it in this? And where did Alpha Farrell go? Why cannot Meghan locate him? Did I make a mistake intercepting this letter? Should it reach Sebastian? I cannot rewrite like her! So they would know it's me if I replace it with something of my own. Farrell writes like a kid and I can write it with my left hand and make people believe it's him who wrote it. I walk back to my office and quickly heat up the wax slightly enough for it to seal again, even though the Royal seal looks a little distorted. I hope he thinks it's in a hurry and would let go. I quickly decide to send another of my guards telling him to deliver it to Sebastian and tell him it landed here by mistake. But I didn't want to take a chance. So I take the matter in my own hands and walk out, towards the enemy camp. It's already dark by now and I wonder if Farrell is alright. He should be. He will be. He is Alpha Farrell after all. I hear the songs that Farrell's army is singing and they all greet me as soon as they spot me. I smile at them and find my way to Sebastian. He looks at me, with his eyes boring into mine. I bet no one wants me dead like Sebastian does. And I don't know why. "This landed at our pack's borders," I whisper and Sebastian snatches it from my hand. "Did you read it?" Sebastian asks me and I shake my head. I don't know why I am feeling intimidated even though he is a Beta. Maybe it's my fear that something might have happened to Farrell, overcoming the fact that I am an Alpha? Sebastian opens the letter and reads it as if I am not here. Or as if I am nothing but a dent in this tent. Sebastian's eyes go wide at the end of the letter and he looks at me. "Where is he?" He whispers and my eyes go wide. "Where is he? I was about to ask you instead," I asked him back and we both had a stare battle until he walked out and alerted the army. "We shall wait for an hour and if Alpha Farrell is nowhere to be seen, a part of the army is going to head to the no man's land. Am I clear?" Sebastian screams. No man's land. That's the directions that Farrell asked me. The directions that I gave him were entirely wrong. He was supposed to be at the pond if he actually took my directions seriously. I don't tell Sebastian a word as I start running towards the pond. I feel Sebastian running behind me but I have no time left in my hands for me to turn around and ask him not to follow me. There is no one at the pond. Not even bison, if it's still alive. I look around and ask Sebastian if he could pick up the scent and he just told me that he is still waiting for his wolf. What a great way for us to find out where he went! How can we even know if he is safe if we don't know where he is? I pant, more than usual and I feel incredibly hot. The run hardly took me minutes so I don't know why it's showing me more effect than it should. I wipe the sweat off my forehead until Sebastian looks at me wide eyed. "What?" I ask him, fanning myself with my hands and he looks even serious this time. "You need to get back to your pack," he says and I feel the uncontrollable need to tear the dress off my body. It's unbearably hot here. "Why?" I ask him, despite the fact that I know something is wrong with me. "You are about to shift,"
