But at that moment, she had forgotten entirely about the edge of the floatie. Or the entire floatie. Or the lake. Or the rest of the world, for that matter.
Her feet slipped on the edge, and suddenly, she was free falling. She let out a scream as she fell, her body flailing wildly. The water was approaching at a gut-wrenching speed, and her throat was sore before she even hit the water.
Marley hates surprises. She didn't prepare for this. It was right there with zero ability to put herself in the right mindset.
She sunk rapidly, the pressure of the water popping her ears. She choked on the bubbles, panic squeezing her chest. She is a good swimmer in general, but not in the middle of a panic attack.
