There is always some story in Jianghu about some martial artist that is spared of some death encounter because of how lucky he is or the negligence on the part of the perpetrator.
Du Hanlan once saw a shadow play about a martial artist who falls down out of a cliff and instead of dying, this martial artist survives the fall by falling into the river water below.
He was then rescued and an expert found him.
Then all sorts of fortuitous encounters happen and that martial artist become a powerful grandmaster and avenge his fellow disciple in the end.
If not a fellow disciple, then the protagonist would avenge his teacher, his lover, his family and so on and so forth.
There is no lack of such stories in Jianghu.
As such, Du Hanlan would not let such thing happen to him.
