CARL AND JAS WENT THE final distance together. They talked as quietly as the low whistle of the wind would allow. “How are we going to get in?” Carl asked. “The entrance has to be disguised to look the same as the surroundings, or we’d see it by now. But the Shadows have human bodies. In this environment, they need heat, and heat will escape through any gap.” A pair of binoculars appeared from thin air and floated over to Carl. “What do you see?” Carl held the binoculars up to his eyes, and the landscape was transformed to grey shapes beneath a glowing sky.
