Chapter 5 When Max got downstairs Monday morning, he found Deacon and Jack in the kitchen, debating the merits of pancakes over eggs for breakfast. Deacon prevailed when he said, “Eggs are healthier. Deal.” Max smiled to himself. You’d think he was living here, and had been for a while. “As long as you don’t cut off the coffee,” he said aloud. Deacon looked shocked. “Never. Coffee is the elixir of life.” They ate, all of them obviously feeling more relaxed after a good night’s sleep. Then, as planned, Deacon and Jack left to take Jack to school, after which, Deacon would go home to change clothes before heading to the shop.
