Chapter Six “You called him, didn’t you?” Roxanne exclaimed, when Caroline walked through the door of her boutique. She hadn’t seen Roxanne since their evening together several weeks before. “Yes, I did,” she said absently, moving to a new rack of sweaters. “I love these. You’re getting fall things in so soon?” “You surprised me,” Roxanne, stopped for a moment and appraised her friend as though she were looking at her for the first time. “Apparently I surprised Max Burton, too.” Caroline browsed through a rack of sale priced shorts. “You didn’t tell me you’d reduced these.” “Surprised Max?
