Daisy POV A knock on the pristine double doors of my grand bedroom forced me to peel my eyelids open, completely ruining my mission to stay in bed all day. Today marked the start of the month I dreaded every year. "Come in," I called grudgingly, suppressing the urge to cover myself with my layers of soft blankets in the hope of drowning out the intrusion. Luna poked her head through my door, scrunching her nose in despair on seeing me still cuddled in bed. "Daisy! Please come down and help with the preparations," Luna Skyla, my adoptive mother, called. Although she insisted I call her 'Mom,' I never felt worthy of that title. Deep down, I knew I never would. I was adopted at the early age of one by Luna Skyla and her husbands; Alpha Blaze, Alpha Ryder and Alpha Kai. Despite already having quadruplet sons, Luna Skyla also had her own mindset on raising a baby girl. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with placenta previa after giving birth to her quadruplets and was advised not to get pregnant again due to the serious risk it could pose. This led to my adoption. I was raised alongside their quadruplet sons Damien, Nicholas, Christopher, and Nathaniel. I was introduced into the life of luxury and enjoyed the perks that came with being part of a royal family. Growing up, things had been pretty great for me, but that changed the day I turned fourteen. My inability to perform like the rest of my peers in Redwood Academy started to show up. Redwood Academy was a high school for the elites, and only students of royal blood could attend. Unlike the kids at Redwood Academy, who had exceptional abilities—enhanced physical strength, sharper hearing, sight, and smell—I didn't come close. Eventually, my roots were traced to a long-dead omega lineage. Despite my adoption to royalty, the fact that I was still an omega by blood made everyone repulsed by my presence. Young and scared, I cried in silence, heartbroken, fearing that the love Luna Skyla offered me would vanish like everyone else's. I waited for my adoptive parents to tell me they no longer wanted me and look at me with dissatisfaction the same way my instructors had. Instead, Luna Skyla had pulled my frail, trembling frame into her arms and reassured me that my status wouldn't change a thing. She told me she loved me and everyone else would. Unfortunately, she was wrong… Since that day, I was labeled as an outcast in Redwood Academy, and everyone distanced themselves from me like I was a plague. After all, no one wanted to be friends with the 'peasant.' I quickly accepted my fate as the outcast; they weren't wrong anyway. In a school occupied by only royals from different packs, I surely stuck out like a sore thumb. The name-calling and avoidance were easy to ignore, but I wished it had ended there. But my 16-year-old stepbrothers took it even further. They made it their sole responsibility to remind me that I didn't belong and accused me of bewitching their parents to accommodate a 'low life' like me. To them, I was a freeloader and a thief ripping off their family. They made it obvious they were disgusted by my presence and made sure their hatred towards sharing a home with me perfectly imprinted in me, and despite how hard I tried to convince myself it wasn't my fault the moon goddess had destined me to end up adopted by Luna Skyla, I couldn't silence the nagging thought that maybe the moon goddess despised me, too- perhaps that's why she cursed me with an omega blood. Months later, the Alphas found out about their sons' bullying after I finally took the risk of reporting them. I had been scared they would never believe me over their sons, but luck seemed to be on my side because their father sent the quadruplets to military boarding school to fix their characters. That became the happiest day of my life; I was finally free from the quadruplet's constant bullying. Although I still felt like an outcast in school, the name-calling and discrimination were significantly reduced. It had been four years since then. Now, in senior year, I had just turned 18 and was looking forward to finally meeting my mate. It's only been a couple of weeks since I turned eighteen, but I worried I might be unfortunate like my stepbrothers, who were now in college and turned 20 a couple of months ago but had still not found their mate(s). Maybe this was the moon goddess finally granting them karma for their past sins. Served them right. Speaking of the quadruplets, today marked the one time of the year they returned home for the Christmas holidays - the start of a dreadful couple of weeks for me. Although they no longer actively bullied me, I still dreaded their presence; the way they looked at me with such malice made my skin crawl, as if they still saw me as the same 'low-life' they once tormented. "Good morning, Luna; I'll be down in ten minutes," I replied, my voice slightly muffled by my blanket. Luna Skyla looked at me warily before nodding in approval and shutting the door. I listened to the melodious sound of her heels clicking on the expensive marble tiles until it finally faded before forcing myself out of my inviting bed. My eyes widened in disbelief when I saw the time on my wall clock which read 12 p.m. The quadruplets would be home in an hour. I didn't care to make myself presentable for them; I had long since given up on that. But deep down, a part of me still didn't want to give them the satisfaction of seeing me as their pitiful, unloved stepsister. I grabbed a hair clip from my nightstand and clipped my unruly black curly hair away from my face. My long, curly black hair had to be my favorite feature as it was the only thing that really stood out among others. It contrasted sharply with my pale skin while evenly complimenting my dark eyes. I strode to my en-suite bathroom and quickly took my bath, not wanting to keep Luna Skyla waiting for too long. Afterward, I got dressed in a knee-length white dress that perfectly hugged my slim frame. I brushed my curls backward and packed them in a formal updo before accessorizing them with a pearl necklace and matching earrings. Then, I completed the look with red pump heels and a red purse. Although my adoptive parents were simply welcoming their sons, it was more of a formal ceremony since the pack beta and Gamma family would be invited as well. Satisfied without my reflection, I exited my bedroom and took a deep breath before descending the stairs. "There you are, my boys have already arrived," Luna Skyla chastised. Although she was annoyed by my lateness, she was practically beaming with excitement. I muttered an apology and greeted Alpha Ryder, who had his hands wrapped around Luna Skyla's waist. "Come, dear. Everyone is waiting at the dining hall," Alpha Ryder smiled, looking just as happy as his wife. I wanted to replicate the happiness they all shared, but I could barely force my red-coated lips to smile without looking like a character in a horror movie. I hummed quietly to stop the nervousness and fear from seeping in and began following my adoptive parents' steps toward the dining room. As we drew closer, I began to feel a weird sensation. The fear was long gone, quickly replaced by something so good I couldn't find a word to describe it perfectly. My heartbeat began pounding loudly, and I could have sworn anyone would have heard it, too, if the room had been silent. An intoxicating scent filled my nostrils, and I quickly starved for more. My mate was close… When I stepped into the dining room, my eyes quickly scanned the room filled with about eleven people in search of my mate. My breath got caught in my throat when my gaze finally met theirs across the room. My chest immediately felt constrained, and it was only a miracle I hadn't collapsed at that moment. You’ve got to be kidding me!
