Sahara
I woke up to a dissapointment and a wet p***y .
It felt so real like he were here with me . I grunted in dissapointment and got out of bed.
I had a shower , got dressed , poured some milk for Bun , she loves to eat what I eat , I had a sausage, bread and tea.
I gave her a sausage.
Bun Bun and I met way back when I was still freshly employed in Ohio state Correctional facility .
I came home in a rainy night and hear her meows behind my flower vase infront of my door. She looked so skinny and adorable.
I fed her some milk , she drank so happily .
I got the name Bun Bun from how she loved playing with a bread bun , she loved the name .
She and I became a family , I seem to be so attached to cats than dogs.
I enjoy going to parks to see big cats .
I started my car , feeling hopeful for the day and very happy to see Lord Diablo . I had a dream about him , it felt so real and amazing .
As I parked the car I saw the facility van , its mostly used to ferry inmates to death house where they await execution.
Several inmates were ushered in , I went to my work station , for some reason I felt as if I won't be seeing Gray eyes for a long time.
I had a psychology class.
Sadly Lord wasn't present , I resumed teaching on "dealing with trauma".
Some inmates ended up in jail due to trauma related crimes . Some opened up about why they enjoyed killing because they never had responsible parents , others were abused by step parents and others were bullied.
I have to be very careful while handling this topics its easy to trigger this inmates and they could go from cool calm collected to psycho- ex- girlfriend in seconds.
We sat on a circle. It was an open discussion so everyone could share their experience.
" When I was sixteen my step dad used to abuse me sexually and verbally. My mom was deeply in love that she never heard my cries and would defend her man and scold me for saying terrible things about her beloved sweetie .He would come to my room at night and do so many bad things to me .It hurt so bad .He's the reason am in jail because I murdered him one night ,I had felt like enough was enough" James said
The next person was Ken .
" My trauma began when I lost my best friend and wife to be .She died in a car accident while on a bachelorette party with her friends .They survived unharmed but for her she didn't make it ,she died on impact. Rage fuelled me and that's how shot her besties ."Ken said .
" I grew up in an abusive home , my mother was a drunk my father was a deadbeat. My mother never had time for me , she hated me ,she called me all kinds of names To her I was nothing but useless" David said .
" I am a result of rape .My mom concieved me after she was gang raped . She loathed me with all her heard ,she would beat me up with metal rods and call me a demon .She hated me so much that made me run away from home and joined a gang .The gang was like a family to me .I got the love that my momma never gave me " Travis said
It was my turn .
" I grew up with dead beat parents .I had to fend for myself ,they never came for any activity in school .I was nicknamed the lone ranger because I was always alone l hated going to the parks or seeing family shows. It was so sad not to have a normal family.I do understand how all of you feel .But none of you is worth that trauma. you guys are great and amazing .I know you will all get through this ."I said.
We said a prayer before I dismissed the class .
I returned to my station after the class, I had given them an assignment the previous class amazingly they turned in their work. I thought they would be rebellious and rude, but they weren't , just because someone is in jail doesn't mean they can't change.
The assignment was for them to write an essay on what they would do if granted a chance of freedom , I want to connect with them in ways only a teacher would.
Dante walked in on me while I was going through the essays.
" A good teacher I see "he said.
" quite a lot on my plate"I said.
looking at the clock it was past lunch time .
" Sorry to ask , but what happened to inmate cell 17 "I asked.
His face turned pale , why does he fear Lord so much , am curious to know.
" You didn't hear the news?"he said.
"no I didn't "I replied.
" he was moved to the death house this morning his execution is in an hour which reminds me , the supervisor called in you head there I forgot to inform you "he said.
"What!"I said
Then it came on me his words in my dream that we may not see each other again . He meant his execution .
I took my car keys and ran out of the facility.
The death house is a ten minute drive , I got into my car and drove straight to the death house.
I had less than an hour before the execution .
I came right as they were straping him on the bed I stood behind the large glass fame on the witnesses side behind the witnesses seats, I guess they were the victim's relatives . I representbthe facility as a witness that they conducted the execution in accordance to the law.
Lord looked so cool and calm not scared of death .If I were on the death bed like him I would be sobbing my heart out .Like that's your last bed ,the last air you will see, the last people you will see, the last everything .So I would definitely cry so much . Although I have never seen a man cry on his execution. Many at times they are already psychologically prepared for their death.
They waited for like twenty minutes incase the governor may stay his execution .
At exactly four he was asked his last words.
"I will come for you "he said.
Not sure what he meant but I strongly felt those words were for me.
They began to administer the drugs ,
the typical lethal injection begins with the condemned person being strapped onto a gurney; two intravenous cannulas ("IVs") are then inserted, one in each arm. Only one is necessary to carry out the execution; the other is reserved as a backup in the event the primary line fails. A line leading from the IV line in an adjacent room is attached to the prisoner's IV and secured so that the line does not snap during the injections.
The arm of the condemned person is swabbed with alcohol before the cannula is inserted. The needles and equipment used are sterilized. Questions have been raised about why these precautions against infection are performed despite the purpose of the injection being death. The several explanations include: cannulae are sterilized and have their quality heavily controlled during manufacture, so using sterile ones is a routine medical procedure. Secondly, the prisoner could receive a stay of execution after the cannulae have been inserted . Third, use of unsterilized equipment would be a hazard to the prison personnel in case of an accidental needle stick.
Following connection of the lines, saline drips are started in both arms. This, too, is standard medical procedure: it must be ascertained that the IV lines are not blocked, ensuring the chemicals have not precipitated in the IV lines and blocked the needle, preventing the drugs from reaching the subject. A heart monitor is attached to the inmate.
In most states, the intravenous injection is a series of drugs given in a set sequence, designed to first induce unconsciousness followed by death through paralysis of respiratory muscles and/or by cardiac arrest through depolarization of cardiac muscle cells. The execution of the condemned in most states involves three separate injections .
Sodium thiopental or pentobarbital an ultrashort-action barbiturate, an anesthetic agent used at a high dose that renders the person unconscious in less than 30 seconds. Depression of respiratory activity is one of the characteristic actions of this drug.
Consequently, the lethal-injection doses, as described in the Sodium Thiopental section below, will—even in the absence of the following two drugs—cause death due to lack of breathing, as happens with overdoses of opioids.
Pancuronium bromide: nondepolarizing muscle relaxant, which causes complete, fast, and sustained paralysis of the skeletal striated muscles, including the diaphragm and the rest of the respiratory muscles; this would eventually cause death by asphyxiation.
Potassium chloride: a potassium salt, which increases the blood and cardiac concentration of potassium to stop the heart via an abnormal heartbeat and thus cause death by cardiac arrest.
The drugs are not mixed externally because that can cause them to precipitate. Also, a sequential injection is key to achieve the desired effects in the appropriate order: administration of the pentobarbital essentially renders the person unconscious; the infusion of the pancuronium bromide induces complete paralysis, including that of the lungs and diaphragm rendering the person unable to breathe. If the person being executed were not already completely unconscious, the injection of a highly concentrated solution of potassium chloride could cause severe pain at the site of the IV line, as well as along the punctured vein, but it interrupts the electrical activity of the heart muscle and causes it to stop beating, bringing about the death of the person being executed.
The intravenous tubing leads to a room next to the execution chamber, usually separated from the condemned by a curtain or wall. Typically, a prison employee trained in venipuncture inserts the needle, while a second prison employee orders, prepares, and loads the drugs into the lethal injection syringes. Two other staff members take each of the three syringes and secure them into the IVs. After the curtain is opened to allow the witnesses to see inside the chamber, the condemned person is then permitted to make a final statement. Following this, the warden signals that the execution may commence, and the executioner(s) (either prison staff or private citizens depending on the jurisdiction) then manually inject the three drugs in sequence. During the execution, the condemned's cardiac rhythm is monitored. Death is pronounced after cardiac activity stops. Death usually occurs within seven minutes, although, due to complications in finding a suitable vein, the whole procedure can take up to two hours. According to state law, if a physician's participation in the execution is prohibited for reasons of medical ethics, then the death ruling can be made by the state medical examiner's office. After confirmation that death has occurred, a coroner signs the condemned's death certificate.
I could see the killer drug fitted on the drop . A drop of liquid fell on my hand , I touched my face and realized I was shedding tears. Why did I have a heavy feeling seeing Lord being executed ? I barely know him . This is my fourth execution , never had I been so emotional in my previous executions . I would feel sorry but cry , never .
Slowly like a deadly snake the drug flowed into the tube leading into his arm immediately it dissapeared into his skin my body felt so weak and my head was spinning .
"Sahara, Sahara!" I head one of my colleagues call my name .
Next thing I saw was darkness.
When I came to I was in a white room I could tell it was the dispensary.
"you passed out coincidentally at the same time the convict passed out and died ."The nurse said. A strange coincidence .
" I was a little tired"I said.
I got up and straightened myself .
I wanted to see his body , I felt so heartbroken.
"have they already taken his body?"I asked .
"No , but in a few minutes it will be "she said.
I got up and headed to the Facility morgue .
It acts as a holding place for the bodies before family members come and ferry them for burial.
The morgue attendant was cleaning the table up.
"can I see inmate number 11679833 "I said.
" sure , but make it fast as the family has to bury it "he said.
Lord Diablo had a family?
He opened a compartment and drew out the body .
He looked so chill , for some reason I could tell it's not him .
He was more stiff and he felt like a wax figure. Maybe it's just my denial state .He's dead and it hurts... period. I won't ever see him again .I felt of much anguish and hurt.
I concluded it could be as a result of denial , the skin felt human like , he looked like he was asleep and handsome .
I stroked his hair , believe me when I say , it felt real but not real .
Something was amiss I could feel it I need to head home and forget everything , am crazy and lost , in deep denial a man I know nothing of is dead.
"thanks "I said .
That night I couldn't sleep, I already miss him , I feel so sad and empty.
Lord's body will be flown to Atlanta his hometown . I will attend his funeral. To say goodbye.
This is why you should not get attached to an inmate on deathrow. Any day could be their last day .
my beloved ❤️ I decided to add some information on how lethal injection works on the story so that you don't get confused as you enjoy the story .
