It had been two days since I was trying to forget about Lukas. So far it wasn't working and all I could think was what went wrong. There were still fragments of that night I can recall but not the entire night. It was like a blurred memory.
Staring at the reflection of my dress in the mirror I sighed to myself. It made me feel good, dressing up and distracted from the thought I was having. With one final look, I was out of my room and messaged Jaxon. He was going to pick me up.
Locking the door of the flat was always annoying because the key jammed one too many times. After a few seconds, I was able to do it.
The reason I was so ready and nervous was that Mira's mother had insisted me to join their family for dinner. Simply because they were going to open new wine specially imported from Italy. In spite of denying several times, she wouldn't let it go. Mira was also stubborn like her mother so in the end, she was able to convince me.
I felt like I needed to get out of my house more often and not stay cooped in, thinking about him. Wasn't healthy exactly.
Jaxon was going to pick me up because of course I didn't have a car and he had to put a good argument about it. He had some work around the corner so it won't take him long to be in the parking lot. With that thought in my mind, I headed towards the hallway leading to the elevator.
It was eerily calm. Maybe because it was Sunday and most of them were out. My neck started itching as I neared the elevator. The same strange sensation I was having in the club. Was it because of Lukas? But that stuff happens only in movies. Something was wrong with me maybe I thought to try to scratch at the skin. It didn't do much.
As I tried to press the button of the lift it dinged open. I stood back when my eyes widened staring at weird looking people exiting the elevators.
I blinked twice, hoping that it was just a stupid dream but when I stared back at the three of them in identical costumes but the different colour I knew it wasn't. They seemed like some kind of triplets and had long nails which were strange. The scariest part was that they had a glow around them, yellowish colour. Trying to ignore them proved to be a difficult task as I inched towards the lift door.
I had never seen them before in the building which made it even more suspicious. Maybe they were relatives of my neighbour, Mrs Smith. She was always quirky and weird like that, throwing ridiculous fashion parties as she likes to call them.
"Talia" The three of them bowed down in sync which made me take a step back. My breath hitched in my throat when I realised that they knew my name. How was that possible? I never saw them before.
Licking my lips together, I breathed, my voice quiet, "Umm...who are you all? And how do you know my name?"
The first one of them, wearing a green gown and was almost half of my height, inched forward. She had red curly hair, reaching till her shoulders. Her eyes were green like her dress and she had dark brown lips.
"Don't be scared love"
Her voice was calm, almost soothing which made it even scarier. I inched back involuntarily and crashed against the wall.
My hands gripped at the edges of my teal knee-length sheath dress. With ragged breath and blurred vision, I stayed rooted on spot. It felt like a nightmare. Why was it happening to me? I questioned myself trying to bring back the tears in my eyes. My throat feels clogged up and I could not say anything. The first I was holding was sliding down my arm and I made no effort whatsoever to pull it back up. A part of me was aware that I had my phone in the purse and I could call Jaxon but my body refused to do anything out of fear.
The other standing back were whispering something among themselves. The second one with blue dress came forward and held the green dress hand.
"Gia we should leave. She clearly does not remember anything"
"I can see that" Gia snarled, her nails digging into her dress. My eyes shifted in between both of them as they were having some sort of silent communication. It was difficult to figure out what they were saying.
I peeked at the third one, standing quietly near the elevator. Unlike both of them, she had bright yellow colour eyes, sharp and piercing. The colour of her eyes matched her gown which seems to be a common factor between three of them.
"Mia this is our only chance before he tells her everything" Gia barked back to the blue dress one which I'm thinking is called Mia.
The theory I had of them being sisters was slowly being confirmed.
Who was he? What were they talking about?
The last one quietly whispered, "We cannot mess with fate. It was wrong to think that we can do something. Let's go"
"It was your idea, Sia!" Gia barked, looking over her shoulder. Her face was almost red, nose flaring and nails sharply digging into her skin.
Mia placed a hand on her shoulder, "Maybe she realised that she was wrong. We cannot stay here any longer"
Gia who was angry deflated, a loud sigh echoing around the hallways. It made me scrunch my face. That women sure did have some issues. My eyes pinned at the elevator button. It was still on the same floor. There might be a way that I could slip away without them noticing.
"What about Talia?" Gia focused attention back on me. I tried to move further back away only to realise that there was a wall.
Mia inched closer towards me and I breathed deeply. Was she going to hurt me in any way? I did not have anything to defend myself. This is why I should have carried the pepper spray. Mentally cursing myself I held my breath as she finally stood in front of me. A bleak look on her face.
"Do not worry Miss Talia we won't hurt you?" She said her voice gentle and soft which made my shoulders slump down a bit.
She smiled at that, "Do you believe us now?"
I shook my head because they still seemed strange and scary to me. There was no chance in hell I was going to trust them. What if it was some kind of trap to lure me into believing them? Who knows what kind of people were they?
Her face turned down and she sadly nodded her head. I held my breath as she walked away back to her sisters. My eyes narrowed as she gripped their hands.
"You were right. She does not remember us so there is no way we can tell anything without endangering everyone"
Sia sighed, "Exactly! We need to get away from here"
Mia hummed softly and the three of them joined hands and formed a circle. My eyebrows raised in confusion when they all turned their heads at me. What did they want?
"Talia you will remember. Don't worry you will"
"What?" I whispered but they all smiled in unison which made me feel shivers down my spine.
"See you soon Talia"
They softly said and chanted something under their breath which formed a glowing circle around them. I felt blinded for a few moments and then the light was gone. Just like that. I rushed towards the exact same spot they were standing and looked around. Where did they disappear? How was that possible to vanish in the thin air? Running inside the elevator I tried to look around. Maybe there was some secret compartment inside that I was not aware of. They must be hiding there to give me a scare.
My thoughts were interrupted at the loud ringing of my phone. I almost jumped at the sound and looked around before realising that it was my phone. With a sigh, I tried to steady my hand and pick it up from the purse. I noticed it was Jaxons number.
"Hello"
"H-Hi" I mumbled, my throat feeling dry all of a sudden. My fingers were still shaking.
"Talia, what's wrong? Are you fine?"
My eyes flickered towards my back and front and I nodded my head. Words refused to leave my mouth. Was I still dreaming? There was one way to prove it. Bringing my hand towards my cheek I pinched them. A wince slipped out of my lips.
"Talia, what's going on? Do you need me to come up?"
I shook my head, closing my eyes, "No no I'll be fine...I'm fine"
