They discussed what they could do, and the only real solution was to go to the authorities. They knew that it would be embarrassing for them, but if Sara and Jim agreed, that was what they would do. Sam knew that it might be the end of his job, that there would be a scandal, but maybe it could be kept quiet and he could continue to work there. If the whole thing blew up, they could always move and find jobs in another big city where no one knew them.
