Chapter 7 Chosen

“Let’s take her as the last applicant.” Lucien took a sip of his coffee while listening to his secretary. “Understood, Boss.” Vicky smiled. Lucien was piqued. “What is that smile about?” He comfortably asked. “I just saw her a while ago while preparing your coffee.” She nonchalantly said while arranging the files, female and male, in intervals, just like how her boss would like them done for interviews. “And…?” Lucien felt hanging. He was waiting to hear anything about this person. Even if it wasn’t anything profitable. Well, as a businessman, he usually doesn’t entertain nonsense information, but right now, he was inwardly dying to hear anything about this girl. He wanted to slap his one backhead, but he cannot make his frustrations be known even to his own secretary. “And I cannot help but realize one thing I have never had the luxury to encounter before. And I even thought I have lived long already, that I have seen it all.” She chuckled. She paused as if she was trying to convince herself that what she was going to say was not something far-fetched or unbelievable. “What is it…?” Lucien stared at her with his cup of coffee hanging in the air held by his right hand. He was about to take another sip when her interesting mien stopped him. “Have you ever seen someone that looked… uhhhm... How do I describe her...not in a sensual way but as a professional, she really looked Executively Sexy.” Vicky found it hard to vocalize her thoughts. She wasn’t sure it would sound as pure and easy as she thought. “Executively sexy….?” Lucien took a sip of his coffee, but his mind was savoring the description Vicky just mentioned about the lady that mysteriously caught his attention ever since he arrived in this area today. “I agree. I actually saw her downstairs today. She was sent by a guy who dropped her off at the main entrance of the building. She really caught my attention. I even took the elevator from the ground floor just to have the chance of getting close to her. But she even ignored my greetings of good morning to her.”Lucien complained. He was talking with his eyes on his coffee cup, and he did not see how Vicky’s smile turned wide. His eyes turned to her when she asked in disbelief. “You mean, you took the elevator from the ground floor? How about your car?” She asked with her eyebrows arched. “Well, I asked for the head guard to park it on my spot.” Lucien shrugged. “And you greeted her?” She probed. That was unbelievable. If someone else told her that, she wouldn’t have believed it. But since it was he himself telling her, she had no choice but to do so. “She was standing in front of me with her back to me when I greeted, so maybe she wasn’t sure I was greeting her, so she simply turned her head halfway and nodded a little.” He explained. “Okay, let’s get started.” He wanted to avoid the topic. He was still feeling uncomfortable about what happened at the elevator earlier. He did not have the courage to be bold again and strike a conversation with her when they were already in the elevator. He was scared to be ignored again. A while ago, he was still able to console himself that she was not fully aware the greetings were for her, so she reacted the way she did. But what if she blatantly brushes him off? He wasn’t sure how he was going to handle such disregard that he struggled to keep his mouth shut during the whole ride up. Vicky came back with a lady behind her. Lucien opened the file that Vicky handed him. “Please take a seat.” Lucien formally instructed. The interview went quick. It was as if the ten applicants were interviewed for formality when actually they had already failed to get hired when Lucien Michaelson saw Brianna Peters’ files. “Thank you for coming.” It was the tenth time Vicky bid an applicant goodbye. She noticed Lucien, her boss, crossed out some and encircle come of the applicants’ details. She was sure he was going to explain those things to her later. And right now, she noticed her boss changed into somewhat or something she had never seen in him. “Boss, shall I call Miss Peters in?” Vicky gave in her professional tone. They were at work. It would be rude of her to do otherwise. “Wait, please give me a moment to breathe. And you can have a break while I attend her interview. Alone.” He firmly commanded. He was not confident he would be able to bear further self humiliations. The incident at the elevator lounge was already more than he can handle. Not again! And not in front of another soul, even if she was his well-trusted secretary. “Yes, sir. Please let me know when you need anything.” Vicky politely replied as she headed towards the door where Brianna was patiently waiting for her turn to be called and interviewed. She looked calm, but if anyone would ever be able to see her chaotic mind, they wouldn’t feel so inferior to her right now. She wasn’t afraid she wouldn’t pass. She was afraid she wouldn’t be able to hold her self-control and pounce on her enemy’s beloved grandson. What a sweet way to execute her revenge, right? Her devious and angelic minds were in constant bickering inside her head, making her frown once in a while. A facial expression anyone watching or looking at her would flee if not smile. To hide her inner thoughts, she would mostly close her eyes. A liberty and chance for the people around her to give her a good look. Some with admirations, while others were with hatred. Like, “Why would she apply in here?” making them lose the chance to get hired. While others, especially of the opposite s*x, revel at the beauty that they had never seen, and no matter how many beautiful faces they have seen, her uniqueness captures them. Now it was only her left. She was feeling even more at peace to act freely, according to her arguing mind’s opinion. “Just break his neck and get the hell out of here unnoticed.” Whispered her devious mind. “Let Jack know you need him to shut the cameras for just ten seconds. No one will notice anything.” “He isn’t your direct enemy. Don’t break your own rules.” Argues her morals. She was oblivious of her face turning from one expression of naughtiness to righteousness. A smirk would faintly appear just to be erased the next seconds later. Vicky saw all of them as she approached Brianna’s seat. She felt like this applicant doesn’t seem nervous, but there is something more to that feeling she herself cannot describe. Confidence? Excited? Trepidation? Vicky cannot point out exactly how to put Brianna’s facial expressions into a word. Even for an adjective. But she did not feel offended in any way. It wasn’t anything suspicious or hideous. Maybe that was just her way of suppressing anxiety with the fact that she was soon to be on interview after a long wait. Being the last one on the line has its perks, and Vicky clearly knew that. “Miss Brianna Peters?” Vicky was hundred percent sure of the name of the person in front of her, but she made herself sound asking as if calling for her attention. “Yes, Ma’am.” Brianna stood up quickly. It was like she heard an angelic voice dragging her out of her enchanting devious mind to snap and hit her target without mercy. “Please, follow me.” Vicky led Brianna towards the door where her boss was waiting. She smiled when she saw the applicant stood up like a soldier on duty. So snappy. Before knocking on the door, she cleared her throat and waited for the man inside to confirm her presence being noticed. “Come in.” A manly, strict, and deep, rich voice acknowledged the lady’s knock. She opened the door. She remained next to the door while gesturing for Brianna to get in. Then closed the door softly when she saw Brianna heading towards the empty seat to the man at the head of the table’s right. ?
