Christian's Point of View:
It was quiet on the trip to the conference and that sucked for both me and Mya. Not having our daughter around was hard enough, but it was what we felt was needed. Well, I did. Mya has been very upset since Aubrielle hopped on the plane. As soon as we walked into the Hybrid's Association, it wasn't just us that was down. All of the Blackwinds weren't happy about their grandparents sudden appearance at our baby shower. Well, Mikal was happy. Him and our grandparents were very close. I almost wanted to slap the f*****g smile off his face the day that they showed up. It was just a f****d up day, then Aubrielle came out of nowhere. I just wondered if they were the cause of it?
"Are you alright?" Mya asked me.
"...Yeah." I told her.
She turned to me and I sighed before making eye contact with her. She gave me the cutest smile ever as she stood up on her tippy toes to kiss me.
"Christian!" Kade shouted my name.
I turned to him and watched as him and Chantay walked over to me. The two stood in front of us and looked around.
"Thanks for letting Aubrielle and Ace sit together on the plane." I told my brother. "It means a lot to us since she doesn't know anybody else."
"She's family." Chantay told us. "We know better than to turn on anybody."
"Thanks, girl. I wish the rest of the family was like that." Mya whispered. "I hate that the others don't show her the same respect."
Sighing, I grabbed my wife's hand and gave it a tight squeeze.
"As long as she has Ace, she's fine." I told her.
"But, why do treat her like she's not part of us? I understand she is a mortal, but she came from Christian's blood. Not just mine."
"Look, our kids know better than to judge Aubrielle." Jai said as he walked over.
Everyone of Christian's brothers walked over and just joined the conversation.
"We love Aubri." Daniel said as he came over with Brooke on his arm.
"I don't see it." Mya told him. "You guys are basically labeling her as an outcast!"
"They're not used to seeing someone who is not able to shift nor carry the vampire genes." Brooke explaned. "Give them time, Mya."
"They had 18 years to."
Mya snatched away from me and walked out of the building. I turned back to my family and Daniel sighed.
"This is not what we came to talk about." He told me.
"No?" I asked him with a raised eyebrow. "It seems you guys are doing what she feared the most. She never asked for it and neither did I."
"Christian, we're just worried about Aubrielle." Mikal chimed in.
"No, don't f*****g speak to me! You've been a f*****g problem before and after her pregnancy!"
"Look, I'm trying to come to you as man!"
"Then, do what a man should and that's keep your goddamn mouth!"
I glared at him before I turned and walked off.
"Christian, you need to be here." Mother told me. "We have things to discuss."
"Like what? Is it about you guys treating my daughter as a f*****g joke? I feel so bad because my little girl has no connections with you guys."
"Don't do that. You know your mother and I love Aubrielle with all our hearts. She's just different."
"Different, how? She's just a f*****g mortal like her mother."
"I know, so don't take it too hard. We want her to join us like the others."
"Then, what do you want?"
"We need to know if Mya is going to comply with her contract. We're still waiting for a second child to be conceived."
I shook my head. I knew it was no point of coming there.
"Why?" I asked him. "We're dealing with s**t at the moment and you're worried about a f*****g second child."
My phone rang and I took it out of my pocket fast. I looked at the caller ID and a smile formed on my face as soon as I answered it.
"I swear I thought you weren't talking to me." I said to my daughter.
"I can't stay made at you forever." Aubrielle told me on the other line. "How are you doing, old man?"
I chuckled.
"I'm not that old." I told her. "And I'm doing good? How's everything? Are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine. I'm on my way to a bonfire with Ace, Jaiden and Lucias."
"Hm. How are they treating you?"
"Ace and Jaiden are great. Lucias, however..."
"I figured. He's being an asshole like his father."
Aubrielle chuckled.
"I miss you dad." Aubrielle said to me.
"I miss you, baby girl." I told her. "I'm happy you called. I was beginning to get worried."
"Yeah, I made a friend."
My eyes widened when she told me that.
"What's her name?" I asked her.
"Asia. She's really cool. Plus, it seems she's already connected to Ace."
"Hm.. I sense a hint of jealousy in your voice."
Aubrielle got quiet for a moment.
"I just don't want my cousin to leave my side." I told him. "He knows that."
I got what she was saying. However, when it came to imprinting, there's nothing you could really do. Once their eyes link, they are theirs.
"What are your classes?" I asked her, changing the subject.
"Regular, except for this mating course." She explained.
"Mating course?! Hm, that's new."
"Oh, dad, we're here! I'll call you later?"
I loved Aubrielle and seeing her hang out with people her age was amazing. As soon as she hung up the phone, though, I felt an emptiness in my heart. My little girl was growing up. I put my phone up before I turned and walked out. Mya stood by the car and she looked up at me with a small smiled on her face. A tear ran down her cheeks and I wiped it off her face with the tip of my finger.
"Aubrielle called." I told her.
She stared at me and nodded.
"Is she okay?" She asked me.
"She's fine. She's going to her first bonfire tonight."
I unlocked the door and Mya didn't bother to get in the car.
"Bonfire? Is she with Ace?"
"Ace, Jaiden and Lucias. She's also with another girl named Asia."
Oh okay."
I kissed my wife on the forehead.
"So, stop worrying, okay?" I told her with a raised eyebrow.
"I can't help, but to worry. Things are different now. Now, our daughter could be in danger because of her grandparents."
"I won't let them get to her."
I walked to my side of the cat and got in. I put my arm around her and a deep breath escaped her lips.
"I'll go check on her tomorrow." I told my wife. "I know you don't like her being away from us."
"Yeah, I don't."
"Then, I'll see her tomorrow. Is that better?"
I started the car up and put the car in Drive before I pulled away from H.A. So far, I didn't want to see anybody ever again. Well, everybody I was good on, except Kade and Chantay. They've been good to us since the beginning and I wanted to keep it that way.
