I took at least an hour in the shower, my eyes closed, the images flashing in my eyes, my hair flattening on my back. The hot water pelted down on my skin, and I could feel the steam coming off of me. I wished that was all the negativity leaving, all of the problems, the sadness. But it wasn't. And once I turned the shower off, I was just as heavy as I was when I got in. I stepped out of it in my robe, then dried my hair off. I grabbed a simple pair of trousers and a basic shirt, then grabbed my suitcase. I didn't bother folding or arranging the clothes, I just piled them into the box, my hands grabbing anything I could find.
