I sat against a concrete wall, looking absently out through the silver bars, longingly. It has been three days since they placed me here, yes I have been fed properly and all, but I missed the outside world greatly. All I have seen so far is the people who bring me my food, the guards stationed here in this Hell hole, Beta James, and a small group of four prisoners brought in the early afternoon.
The only way I can tell what time it is, is by the type of food I am brought. Toast and fruit in the mornings, a ham and cheese sandwich at lunch, and vegetables with a bun and slice of chicken in the evenings. I guess you could say I am being fed quite nicely for a prisoner and I won't argue with you, but I think the only reason I am fed this way is because Beta James is still trying to win me over.
He comes every night trying to persuade me to think it over before I make my final decision. What he doesn't understand is that I already have made that decision the day he changed my life.
I am brought out of my thoughts when I hear a strong female voice say, "psst, over here." from the cell next to mine. My head slowly falls to my right, looking at a young woman, maybe twenty-five.
"Yes, how can I help you?" I ask, my voice dripping with sarcasm. What do these people want, a girl cannot wither away by herself?
"No need for the tone, girl." She sneers clinically, the others in the cell move over, quickly engaging the conversation. "I'm here to help."
"Shoot, I am up for about anything right now." A small smile works her way up onto her lips, meeting her eyes, they shine brightly as I say this.
"That's good to hear. Now listen hear, you're that girl that Beta James wants to mate with right?" I shudder when she says this, I hate that dirty bastard.
"Why? You want him, be my guest he is not mine." I chuckle quietly.
"No we don't want him, we want you."
I stand up with my legs a little shaky I make my way towards the silver bars, I am careful to not touch the metal itself.
"...and why would you want me?"
"We do not want you per say, but your help."
"Are you the leader or something, are you planning on having your group of whatever attacking this pack?" I start to pace I cannot allow let them kill people in the pack, I am not going to be responsible for having their blood on my hands, Beta James is the exception.
A male steps closer chuckling, "No she is not our leader, silly girl, Alpha Leonov is our leader." It feels as though cold hands had reached out from a mist, draping me in a curtain of fright. The whisper of the name itself, crawls down my spine, spilling terror into my bloodstream. Following the path to my heart, my body tenses and slowly I fall, down onto the cold ground, chilling me further.
Leonov is the Alpha of the Vernost Pack, a genocidal maniac in his own right.
The pack immigrated from Russia to The United States twenty-five years ago after their former Alpha's mate was abducted and brought to America. In search for her they thought it was wise to move the pack here, so they could know the land and make it easier to send out search parties.
They destroyed hundreds of small packs around the area creating more land to fuel their selfish needs, in total their land stretches from the southern part of New York through Pennsylvania and the northern parts of Ohio. Their pack destroyed many lives, killing innocents all as a cause of one selfish man.
A year later, the late Alpha Leonov found his mate in a hideout somewhere in New Jersey, when he got there he not only found his mate but his unknown son which they conceived together a few days before her taking. He hastily took them back to their new home, cherishing his newly found wife and son. Their life seemed to be like a fairy tale, the knight and shining armor saved his damsel in distress, and now they lived happily ever after in their new land with their healthy, baby son.
But if only that were true, years later the bloodthirsty cartel were out for revenge and sought out to murder his precious mate for killing their men. One night the Luna was out for a walk in the woods, far from the pack village with her oldest son of two, Danyal. The moon was out and shining up above when the attack came, the group quickly took hold of the young boy using him as bait for the mother. She quickly got down on her hands and knees and begged for them to not hurt her beloved son, who was thrashing in the hands of their leader.
The man implied that they would not kill the boy, if the mother would take his place. Without hesitation, the mother shook her head in agreement. The hold on the boy loosened and he told him to leave unless they wanted to join his mother's fate. The boy looked at his mother on the ground, crying on her knees begging him to run, never has he seen such a powerful lady so desperate.
The young boy ran into the trees, hiding among the bushes calling for his father through the pack link for help. As he was waiting he watched his mother not knowing what was to become of her. He watched them beat her, he watched knowing he couldn't do anything and that his father was at least ten minutes away. After a few minutes they grew tired of the bloody mess on the ground, the man who was holding him earlier pulled out a silver gun pointing it at the mother.
The wolf in the boy knowing what was about to take place let out a menacing, animalistic growl. He ran out to the crowd as he heard the gunshot ring throughout the trees, he shifted into his true form and right then he became the youngest Lycan in history to shift. He attacked the group killing them all, not soon after his father came and they mourned her together.
His father blamed him for her death. "Why couldn't you have done something! You should have tried harder, boy. You killed her! It's all your fault, this is because of you. You are no son of mine." Abuse followed, the boy was turned into something unimaginable.
Not many years later he challenged his father for the title of Alpha, not only did he receive the title of Alpha, but of a enormity in their race; he became the nightmare all feared. He killed his father making him and his younger brother the only living Leonov's left. With this power Alpha Leonov and his brother, Beta Leonov, left a m******e across the eastern side of America.
I grew cold once again at the thought of his name.
"Why are you here? Why do you want my help?" I ask very confused and concerned.
"We came here for negotiations and your pack betrayed us, locking us up in here. We need your help in getting out, our pack is coming tonight to rescue us and we need you to show us the quickest and easiest way out of here." The woman from before announces.
"Why? I thought you guys were superior to us?" I pick up a small grey stone throwing it up and down, questioning their motives. I look up to their confused faces, "Well?"
"We just want to leave with the least amount of casualties and injuries, that's all."
"Fair enough, but," I throw the small rock up once more, allowing it to fall to the ground in a puff of dust. "How do I know you're not going to double cross me?" They all look at one another, thinking.
"We have no need to kill you we know that you would never help your pack and that you have a good enough heart to not betray the people who help you."
"Pft, I'm the one needing help out, not the other way around." I cross the cell coming closer to them. "What can you do to help me, that's enough for me not to spill on you."
The woman smiles showing off her pearly whites, she leans closer to the bars and whispers, "We'll set you free."
"Really? I mean truly let me leave, you won't hunt me down or send me to the wrong place?"
"Why do you think of we hold such distrust?" A older man questions me, his voice filled with disappointment.
"You belong to the Vernost Pack, why shouldn't I question you?"
"Why should you?" He questions obviously displeased with my answer.
"All the stories, all the rumors-"
"Exactly all of the rumors, now girl I do not see you as somebody who believes in all this nonsense."
"Some of it must be true, there is too much for it not to be partly factional." I cry out.
"Lower your voice, girl. Before we all get caught!" The lady in the front yells at me in a hushed tone. "And for you information all that you think is true is all changed from the real truth, we are not monsters, none of us were, are, or will be. It's not how we live."
I sit down next to the silver bars and bring my head up to look her in the eyes, "So you will truly let me go? No surprises?"
"Yes."
"And as soon as I get you all out safely, you will let me leave immediately?"
"Of course, we have no further need for you after then."
"You promise?"
"On my life."
"Anfisia ne znayete navernyaka, yelsi budet Al'fa otputstit' yeye." Anfisia you do not know for sure if the Alpha will let her go.
When the older guy started talking in Russian, I got pissed, whatever they are saying I should be able to hear.
"Ya uzhe poprosil yego, ne imeyut nikakikh zabot druga." I have already asked him, no worries friend.
"Excuse me but I don't appreciate the foreign language."
"I'm sorry, Vlad here thought we still needed to keep secrets from you. Do not worry girl, I have assured him that we can speak freely in your presence."
"Then why would you reply in Russian?"
"My apologies, I am used to responding in my mother tongue." As Anfisia says this she stands up, reaching her hand slowly through the bars, careful not to touch the deadly silver. "Do we have a deal, girl?" I look down at the extended hand, thinking it over. If anything were to happen I could always high tail it out of there, I doubt they would waste their time on me.
"Only on two conditions."
"And what are these conditions?" She stands up straighter, leaning her head towards me and narrowing her eyes, trying to look more frightening and superior.
"First you keep your promise." She nods her head understanding my first request. "And secondly you stop calling me girl, you are not much older than me. It is quite degrading in my opinion." She smiles at this one, waving the others over. They come closer, the glint in their eyes shows the excitement they have towards the deal.
Taking my hand in hers she says, "We have a deal." And we shake hands in a firm, yet friendly handshake, signing our agreement.
"What do we do now?" I ask.
She walks over to the other side of their cell, sitting down she sighs and the other step back towards her. She runs her hand through her dirty auburn hair and rests her elbows on her knees, looking towards me in a bored manner.
She mutters two words that make me anxious. "We wait."
