Chapter 6

When we got to the hospital we made it there with no paparazzi following us. I ran into the administration portion of the hospital with Derek towing behind me.
“Hi, may I,” She said finally looking up, “OH MY GOSH, you’re Ivy Andersen and Derek Greene! You’re in Harmony Dreams! Oh gosh. My favorite song is “Looking for Home” I just love that song.”
“We’re so glad you love our music.” I smiled, “I’d love to get to know you, but my mom is supposed to be in this hospital. It’s urgent that I get to her as soon as possible.”
“Oh yes,” She said snapping back to professionalism, “What is her name?”
“Cathy Andersen.” I said.
“Yes, it looks like she’s in ED 23. That’s in the emergency room right that way.” She smiled pointing to the left of us.
We walked in the direction that she told us. But before we entered Derek stopped me.
“Baby, this doesn’t seem right.” He said, “If she were on life support she’d be in the ICU.”
“Do you think they lied?” I asked looking at him.
“I think you should prepare for her to be okay.” He said.
He was right. This wasn’t right. If she was on life support she wouldn’t be here. She’d be somewhere else.
When we walked into the emergency department eyes darted to us. We were immediately recognized. Children flocked over to us and asked us to sign their books or magazines and even a couple of them had us sign their cell phones. Children, teens, adults, all of them were surrounding us for autographs and pictures. I loved our fans. But not in a setting like this. I just wanted to get to my mom.
When we finally made it to the receptionist she took us back to my moms room. Sure enough there she was lying in the hospital bed not hooked up to any machines. In fact, she didn’t even look sick or to be dying.
“Ivy.” My mom smiled, “I’m so glad you came.”
“So I could what?” I snapped as tears threatened to spill over, “Kiss you goodbye because they’re taking you of life support? I should’ve known you were lying.” I snapped at my dad, Michael.
“It was the only way we could get you here.” He said, “We miss you.”
“You miss me?” I snapped, “You should’ve thought about that when you abandoned me at 13 years old! The only reason you’re coming back now is because I’m living a successful life without you.”
“We just need some help.” My mom cried, “Your sisters are living with granny now and the only way she will give them back to us is if we get on our feet. Please, Ivy.”
“Absolutely not.” I said, “I will not help the people that abandoned me when I needed them the most. You threw me out like garbage and you want me to get you back on your feet. That’s a joke. Let’s go Derek.”
“Suddenly you’re better than us?” My dad snapped, “You’re lucky we gave you a life for 13 years girl. You’re not even my kid, that’s why you were left behind.”
I felt anger boil in me and the angry tears spilled out of my eyes. Derek backed off and walked out of the room. He knew that I was about to explode. I’m glad he backed off because I didn’t want to hurt him.
“You people.” I snorted, “You people are a piece of f*****g work. I hate you both. I will be changing my number. Do not ever contact me again. I don’t care what happens to you. If I had it my way my sisters would never see you again. Maybe I’ll contact granny my damn self and tell her just what you’ve done tonight.”
I turned on my heels to walk out of the room but before I knew it my hair was being snatched back. Michael slammed me into the wall and I felt my head bounce.
“You listen to me, girl,” Michael snapped, “You are going to give us $20,000 or I’m going to make sure your reputation is destroyed.”
“I’m not giving you anything.” I said trying to push him away but he was much larger than me.
His hands went from my arms to my neck. He started pushing harder and harder. His hands tightening around my neck as I tried to breathe. I tried to claw at his arms so he would loosen his grip but he wouldn’t. He kept squeezing and squeezing and my sight started to go blurry. I could feel myself slipping away as his grip kept on. Then I blacked out.
