While preparing our dinner, I started remembering my past. I didn't have a normal childhood. I grew up on my own even when my parents were still alive. They were never good parents to me or my siblings. I wish I wasn't their daughter sometimes. I loath them with everything within me. They trend us, their daughters as a bribe. I abandoned them a long time ago before I left home to start my own life. They failed to catch me as I was in hiding away. The time I approached my sister after hearing my niece came into this world two months ago, I couldn't help myself to go to meet her. Emma made a mistake there. That mistake is she born as a girl. Then that happened. My sister made me a promise to run away with her daughter. She believed in me that I was the only one who would keep Emma safe and would be able to give her a normal life. She also made me promise which is to never tell Emma that who was her father and also about her.
She is an unfortunate mother who couldn't allow herself to keep her daughter near her. She was aware of what would have happened with Emma if they had approached her before me. I can never forget the day I have to see her eyes were bulging out and there was no light left in her blue eyes. I had to run and I did.
I left that country with Emma without letting anyone know. They are looking for me for over a year. My well-wishers in that country are giving me alerts to take cautionary steps. I rarely took Emma outside for a walk or go to a nearby park. I was never like this before. I never fear anything. But now, I fear for Emma.
She is my strength and also my weakness. She is my daughter. The fighter within me says to face the world with your back straightened and a protective mother within me says to be careful as I have a one-year-old daughter with me now. I listen to none of them. I do what I think I like doing. I am strong and I will make my daughter stronger, an unbeatable fighter in the future. I believe I can do this, for Emma, I have to.
My thought broke when I heard the sound of the rice cooker. I turned off the stove as the rice was ready and the fish curry was almost done. I cut onion, tomato, and cucumber into small and thin pieces so that it would be easy for Emma to eat without any difficulties. She loves to eat her rice and fish with salad very much. My baby is a big foody. I am glad she is not a whinny like the other babies her age. I turned off the stove and covered the pan with a lid before I left for my room. As I entered, my eyes fell on Emma.
Emma was sound asleep. I remembered that morning she woke me up by licking me and rubbing her cheeks against my face. I was wondering how she would react if I do that to her. I grinned at my thought and decided to wake her up in the same way she did with me in the morning. I was about to go there but stopped when my eyes fell on the coffee table where I kept that box after returning from work. Walking toward that table, I held that box in my hand before I walked toward my bed and sat beside Emma.
I opened that box and took out that hairband which I took out in my boss's cabin. Keeping that box on the bedside table, I kept staring at that box without blinking for once. My eyes welled up as the memories of my past became coming into my vision. That hairband was Emma's mother's which I stole from her only to wear and come in front of her. That was her favorite hairband that she got from her childhood best friend and her crush. Luckily I took that from her, else she had to face her mother's wrath for accepting that from her friend. Later I lost that somewhere and failed to find that anywhere in that massive mansion.
Now seeing that hairband in that box, I got to realize to stole that from me and why. That hairband is her mother's before, now this belongs to Emma only. I will give her that hairband when she will go to school.
She needs to learn to give the value of every single thing she gets or is getting or will get in her life before taking that hairband from me. I might not be able to give her the life of a princess, but I will definitely give her a normal life and freedom to be whatever she wants to be in the future. The life that a princess life isn't as charming and beautiful as what we see from outside. There has no difference between staying in a massive villa and a cage where the animals actually live and eat. I don't want that for Emma.
I heard a voice that was coming from my side. Keeping that inside a box, I turned to Emma. She began wailing as soon as she woke up. I took her in my arm, began cooing her to stop her from crying.
That worked and she stopped crying as she saw my face. I asked softly, "Are you hungry, Emma?" Before she could say anything, her stomach made a noise, indicating her stomach was empty. I mumbled with a smile, "Seems like it is time to feed my baby." I left that room with Emma toward the kitchen. I made her seat on the kitchen counter before I took a plate and filled that with steamed rice. I took fish curry in a small bowl and went toward Emma who was sniffing the aroma of fish curry that filled in the kitchen.
Her eyes lit up to see her favorite food on the plate. I found she was drooling actually. I laughed, saying, "I cooked your favorite food today. Now open your mouth." I took a spoonful of rice with fish near her mouth, which she accepted without wasting a second. She enjoyed her food very much that she grabbed my face into her palms and kissed my lips with her unwashed mouth. I glared at her when I found her eyes widened to see what she has done with me. She pouted and looked ashamed for what she has done. She told me, "S..soo..yyyy, mouuummmyyy." I laughed at her cuteness, saying, "It is alright. You are forgiven."
Then I washed her mouth and had my dinner after giving her a doll to play with it. After finishing my dinner, I washed all the bowls and dishes before I dried them with a dishcloth. Turning around, I went to Emma and took her to the bedroom. Later the night as she fell asleep, I left my bed without making any noise as Emma was sound asleep. I went to the next room and entered after turning on the light and also the internet switch. As the router turned on, I walked toward the table where I kept my laptop last time.
I needed to check my mailbox to see if I got mail from any school. As the laptop turned on, I browsed my sss and was praying to God to see my inbox wasn't empty like the last time. I was scrolling up and down to my mailbox with a gloomy face. My hand froze when my eyes fell on a mail which gave me a shock like never before. I couldn't believe my eyes as it felt like I was dreaming. I got a mail from the school where it is nearly impossible to get a chance for admission. I got a scholarship from this school!
My eyes welled up. Finally my patience and hard work paid back. With a big smile on my face, I left that room after turning off my laptop and the light before walking toward my bedroom where Emma was sleeping alone.
I laid beside Emma and fall asleep. My Emma is my lucky charm. I knew it was because for her I got the scholarship in that school. Waking up from sleep with Emma calling me mommy was enough for me to know the good thing was going to happen from that day in our life onward. I couldn't wait to tell aunt Nina and my restaurant colleague, Regan, and my boss there. Regan is also in that school. She will be happy to know I finally got a scholarship from her school. I have to change my timing in my restaurant as I am going to attend school one day late on Monday.
