Chapter 4 : Old scum!

Then I heard Lexie said, "Ana, do you have any idea who they are?" I shook my head in denial. Then I thought she could not see me from her back as she was preparing breakfast. I said while making coffee for them, "No. I have never seen them before in our restaurant. Why do you ask?" I was not interested to know them.  They gasped in shock. Okay! I knitted my brows at that but did not comment on them. I came to New York nearly eight months ago. I am not on social media or see news channels in my home. I prefer to read a newspaper rather than watching the advertisement on news channels. Alright, let's just cut the crap! I don't have a TV in my home.  Who will watch the television anyway? I am broke. And this is why I have to do two parttime jobs for living. I have responsibilities on my shoulder. The moral of the story is, I am busy with my life and my baby. I don't have time to go for watching a new movie or attending a concert nearby. I can't go anywhere as it will be risky for me if they see me.  I heard Lexie, who is nearly twenty-five years old, exclaim, "You don't know them! Oh my God! Where do you live, Ana?" I raised my head and saw her looking at me with wide eyes. I bit my tongue, preventing me from snapping her by asking, "Do you even know me?" I raised my left brow to her, was waiting for her to say whatever she wants to say. I am never going to tell them or anyone who I am as I wasn't proud of which family I belonged to anyway. I am good without my family. She huffed in annoyance when she found I was giving a not interested look to her. She said with a sigh, "Be careful, Ana. Don't go close to them. They are trouble. You can't keep up with them if you mess with them." I nodded. I am not someone who would be in advantage if I go and put myself into trouble this time. I don't know about them, but I know myself. If they dare to trouble me, I am not going to leave them easily. I have an anger issue that I am trying my best to keep in control. We heard a voice said, "What are you doing, Lexie, Samantha, and Joey? If you want to see yourself in this kitchen the next day, you better do your job as fast as you can. We can't keep them waiting for their breakfast. They are our important guests in our restaurant." That was our boss who was barking at us to work faster. Nodding their heads, the cooks began preparing breakfast in a hurry. I also helped them with it. After putting their breakfast on the food trolley, I left from there with another waitress, Jessie, who is my age. She was continuously setting her hair and straightening her shirt and shirt for some reason. She looked excited and also scared at the same time. I frowned at her, and asked, "Why are you so nervous, Jessie? You don't have to be scared of them." I don't know why everyone was scared of that group of teenagers. They don't seem like vicious and scary people to me, rather they looked a bit childish to me. I was not aware of where they were coming from, but I can tell in one glance who has a dark side that he or she is hiding from the whole world. I can't judge anyone as I also have one. She said with an annoying smirk, "Didn't you see those guys at that table, Anastasia? They all are handsome, rich, and powerful guys. I want to look good because who knows maybe one of them find something interesting in me and ask me out. I always wanted to be friends with rich guys who will take care of me and sate all of my needs."  I internally cringed at that thought. She should not think about those guys like that. They are not a piggy bank that you can use them for your benefit. You can be friends with anyone. You don't need to see whether they are rich or poor. The thing which matters the most is the loyalty and caring nature of your friend and also yours so that no matter what happens later, your friendship will never get affected by anyone. I also have a friend who is still in contact with me. I did not say anything to her. We approached the table where nine to ten teenagers were chatting and laughing. I cleared my throat to grab their attention and then began keeping their orders on the table. The boy whose name was Logan, said with a smile, "Thank you, Ms.?" I nodded at the acknowledgment and concentrated on serving their food.  By the tone of his calling me Ms., I was sure he wanted me to tell him my name that I refused anyway. But that Jessie opened told him my name, where I refused to tell that. She said with a shy smile, "Hi, I am Jessie and - " Looking at me and then to Logan, she said, "She is Anastasia. Do you need something, Sir? I will bring anything for you." One of the guys asked her with a deep voice, "You will bring him anything!" I looked at that guy and watched he was smirking at Jessie in amusement. I was sure he was getting a double meaning of what she just told that Logan guy. She nodded in excitement and said, "Anything, sir. You just have to- " She stopped abruptly when we heard a sound of a plate fell on the floor with loud sound. What the hell? Who broke a plate in this early morning? I asked myself. Then I heard a voice said from behind, "What is this, you fool? Do you call this food, Ms.? The coffee is also cold. What kind of restaurant is this where the waiters do not know how to behave with their customers?" I turned around to see who was yelling at whom. I watched there was a man in near forty's was scolding at one of my colleagues, Leah.  To whom he was scolding, she said with a frown, "But, sir. You tell me to bring- "  She was cut off by that man who said in a maniac tone, "You even dare to talk back to me! Do you even know me, girl? You will fail to get a job anywhere if I go and complain about you to your boss." Leah got scared and tears were flowing down from her cheeks.  I began taking steps toward them unknowingly, ignoring Jessie, who was telling me not to go there and do my work instead. That man smirked at her when she pleaded, "Please don't do this, sir. I need this job. I will bring another plate for you, sir. Please." In the way he was looking at her from head to toe, I knew he has a bad intention with Leah. He said in a cold tone, "Do I look like I have enough time left to wait for you to bring my breakfast again, girl? But I can spare you if you do as I say." I frowned at him, was thinking about what he wanted Leah to do for him. I was getting a bad vibe from that old man. Leah wiped her tears, saying, "Yes, sir. Please tell me what I need to do for you." The thing he said later, made my blood boil and I did what I should not have done that. But I don't regret doing that to him.  He said in a hushed tone so that only Leah could hear him, but no one else, "If you spend a night with me, I will not trouble you with your job, dear." She gasped and paled instantly. Then everything happened in a swift motion. Turning that person around, I slapped him across his face in a force that he fell on a nearby chair by holding his left cheek with his eyes were burning in rage. He deserved it.
