...Wynter POV...
I could hear movements nearby. I’m pretty sure he could as well since he immediately moved in front of me.
“What’s the meaning of this?” A furious man bellowed at us.
Neither of us said anything. I just looked at the man, confused as to who he was. He had a powerful aura to him. I realized that he must be an alpha.
Suddenly, it was as if my mind finally caught up with my body. If I was truly standing in front of an alpha, then it meant that they would soon kill me. I felt my body shiver in fear. Darius also seemed to notice as he pulled me tighter into his back, shielding me from the man in front of us. I buried my head in his side, terrified of what was about to happen.
“What are you waiting for? Kill her!” The man roared at Darius.
I looked up at him, only to be faced with his beautiful blue eyes looking back at me. He didn't seem afraid or upset even. Rather he continued to look down at me with awe. I was weirdly comforted by that look.
“No!” He yelled back at the man.
“No? What do you mean no? She's a rogue and must be killed!” The man roared once more.
“She may be a rogue, but I won’t kill her. And neither will you.” Darius shouted without taking his eyes off of me.
The man seemed taken back by Darius’ words.
“DARIUS RYKER STONE! STAND ASIDE!” The man bellowed.
The air became thick from his words. The power and intensity the man used made us want to move away from each other. I didn’t understand why, but I quickly realized that this man must’ve used his alpha command. My parents had told me about alpha commands. When an alpha uses a specific tone, they said that the person it's being used upon no longer has an option. Rather they must obey their alpha. Only higher-ranked wolves such as the king and queen could ever disregard an alpha command.
I could see Darius twitch under the command, but he continued to stand his ground. The man then sent us a look. It was a look full of surprise and anger at the same time.
My parents had explained how alphas have extreme anger issues. They're power-hungry and hate it when others refuse to submit to them. The worst thing you could ever do is challenge an alpha. Challenging an alpha would lead to immediate death.
Realizing this, I stepped aside. I had hoped that by doing so, the man would take his anger out on me as opposed to Darius. I didn’t want Darius in trouble because he was only protecting me.
Darius looked at me confused, but I couldn’t let that get to me. I knew I had to protect him. Every fibre in my being was screaming at me to do so. I couldn’t explain why, only that I needed him safe.
I stepped in front of Darius, protecting him from the man. I know my actions were fruitless, as I wasn’t strong enough to go against this man. If the man made a move to kill me, I would be dead in seconds. But something inside of me was telling me that I had made the right decision.
The man seemed surprised at first. His surprise quickly changed to laughter.
“Do you think a weak little girl like yourself could ever be able to go up against an alpha like myself?” The man taunted me.
“No. But if it means that I die instead of him, then that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.” I declare.
I felt Darius reach for me, bringing me closer to him; however, I didn't move. Instead, I continued to look at the Alpha, standing my ground.
“Do you honestly think I would kill my own son?” He questioned, raising a brow.
I turned around to look at Darius, that stood behind me with no expression.
“Is that true? Is he your father?” I ask, not sure what to do with this new information.
