Damian found pleasure in watching her struggle. "That's not what happened, President Kingston," she said, struggling to speak.
He lifted one eyebrow, amused. "Really? Then why was the door left open?"
Naomi glanced at the open door, unhappy. She had purposely left it open. He was correct; she was afraid to be alone with him. She didn't fully remember the night before, but the pain she felt was enough to tell her what had happened. He had left bruises on her body that would take days to fade.
Her face turned red as she thought about what had occurred. She hoped he wouldn't see how much he was upsetting her.
He noticed her blush and thought it was adorable. She was a unique mix of cute, intelligent, and intriguing, which he found very attractive.
She was relieved when Mia and James entered the room, which stopped her from having to reply. She looked unhappy and deliberately ignored them.
Damian noticed how Mia was giving Naomi a dirty look and how James seemed to want her back. Damian didn't like the way James was looking at Naomi, so he got up and went to his nephew, standing in a way that blocked Naomi from their sight.
Naomi saw what he was doing. She wasn't sure if it was on purpose, but she was thankful for the little break.
"Uncle, do you need to talk to us about something?" James asked.
Damian's face showed no emotion. "She's not the woman you were with for the past two years. What happened to your ex? And why is this woman taking her place?" he asked in a calm voice.
Naomi felt tense. She wasn't sure how much he knew, but she had a feeling her new boss might know more than he was showing. She was worried that he might know she was his nephew's ex-girlfriend.
If that happened, she was afraid of what he might be thinking about her, especially after what happened last night.
James appeared frightened, and Mia looked concerned. They both shared nervous looks. With Damian in the way, Mia would have been giving Naomi a very angry look.
"She was unfaithful to James. He found her with another person in bed a few months back. James was so trusting that he believed her completely. But she took advantage of his trust and was unfaithful," Mia said this lie very smoothly.
Naomi felt a strong pain from the accusation. Her first shock from finding out about James's cheating with Mia had faded, but the pain remained. She didn't expect Mia to do such a thing. Mia's betrayal hurt more than James's cheating. Oddly, she wasn’t as upset by James’s actions as she thought she would be. Their relationship wasn’t very deep; James had pushed and pleaded with her to be with him, and she only agreed to stop his constant bothering.
She was afraid Damian Kingston would think these lies were true. She had been with him, but she couldn't tell him he was her first time for everything. She had never really kissed James, just got friendly kisses on her cheek.
Damian looked at Mia's made-up story with doubt. He knew she was not telling the truth because he had watched a video that showed Naomi was still a virgin until the night before. He felt mad about the lie, but he didn't show it, which made Mia nervous and unsure of what he was thinking. James seemed to feel bad about something.
"Really? When did you learn about this?" Damian asked in a relaxed way, but his question was not casual at all. He was making Mia make things worse for herself.
James didn't say anything and waited for Mia to speak.
"Um... it was a few months back," Mia lied once more.
Damian nodded, with his hands in his pockets, and watched Mia and James closely, thinking about what to do next.
Naomi tried hard not to let her feelings show.Hearing Mia's lies was too painful for Naomi to handle, and the thought of how her boss would react terrified her the most.
"Hmm, so you two began dating after he ended his two-year relationship?" Damian asked calmly.
Mia moved closer to James and nodded quietly.
Damian nodded thoughtfully. "James, how did you know she was the right one? If your girlfriend of two years could cheat on you, this one might too. You're not good at judging people's character. What will you do if you discover she's not the right one? You've only known her for a few months, after all," he said, clearly insulting Mia.
Naomi misunderstood what he said. She started to think Damian believed she had bad character, which made her feel sad and powerless. She felt stuck, unable to make her boss believe she wasn't someone who casually dated different men. After what happened last night, she was sure he would never trust her.
Mia was shocked by his comment, fearing he might not accept her."I'm sorry, Mr. Kingston, but I'm not like his ex. I'm committed to James and faithful to him. I'm pregnant with his child, so that shows how much I love him," she said, pretending to be upset.
James gently touched her hand.
Naomi wanted to shout at Mia and call her out for being shameless, but she bit her cheek and held back her tears, her eyes filled with strong emotions.
Damian's jaw tightened. He knew why James was marrying this cunning woman. Now, he couldn't stop the marriage because she was carrying a child of the Hamilton family.
"I understand. You can leave now. I'll be there soon," he said, turning away from them. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth in anger. He didn't like Mia as his nephew's wife, but she had trapped James, and there was nothing he could do to help.
Mia smiled happily, while James kept looking at Naomi with desire. Mia led him out of the room, and he followed her unwillingly. She closed the door behind them.
