Elanor's POV I'm not sure that Aeolian registers what I had just done, because the way he looks at me makes me think he's not very aware of anything around him right now. He stares at the needle in his arm as if it were the most interesting thing in the world and before I even get to pluck the needle free from under his skin, his eyes close and he seems to exhale, deeply, in relief. Part of me knew drugs would be best to have at hand given Aeolian's state when we got here, but I would never have expected to have to use it this late. His breathing settles and his tension seems to slowly go away as he gives in to the medicine. "Come help me. " My voice came out a bit more harshly than I wish it to be. I grab the robe and wrap it around Aeolian as I move under his arm to pull him up and carry him away. Marina hisses something under her breath, but she rushes in and, with her help, I get Aeolian on the couch. "What happened?! " Marina spoke as Aeolian is now on the couch, covered with the blanket, shivering lightly under it. With frantic touches, I touched his forehead and cheeks to check his temperature and as I move to his neck, I see it. Every single sane thought slips from my mind and all I can think of is that I've made a huge mistake... This was all one big mistake and it was now coming to bite me in the ass! With a bit of a slow movement, I cover Aeolian all the way to his chin and tuck him in slowly as I try to rake my mind on what i am supposed to do next. I have never seen this before. I have never heard of it before, but one thing was sure. This was not supposed to happen. This was not supposed to have happened in the first place, but I've allowed it to spiral out of control and now... Fear. Guilt. Shame. worry, all bloom at once in my chest and head and I feel like I'm about to lose it if I'm faced with separation again. I am not going to allow anything to tear us apart again... "I'll figure it out. " I whispered and leaned down to kiss his forehead. He's still hot to the touch, and his skin feels sweaty all over. but at least, he is asleep and not able to feel it right now.... I slowly pulled away and got up, looking up at Marina who was pacing around like a headless chicken. "I think we need to go back to the mainland... " I muttered and walked away to grab my phone and call Cassimir. "Everyone is looking for us right now! Are you insane?! " Lila's voice answered. We both turn to look to the door, where she sits all ready to throw hands. "I need to get back to the mainland. I can't offer Aeolian proper care, and I am not going to watch him wilt away. " I spoke, my voice calm, and determined to get my message through to her stubbornness. "They will find you and they will tear you to pieces! " Her hands go up in frustration and I see it in her eyes. The worry she carries for me is great and she does not hold back from hiding it. But I am not going to hold back from doing what I have to do to save my mate. "You know more than well enough they are stalking every single f*****g corner and despite what your white haired friend says, he is being watched!! " panic slowly rises in her voice and she grows more agitated. While I maintain my position, Marina rounds the couch, and moves to stand at Aeolian's head, her eyes scanning his figure. I'm not sure if she figured it out, if she knew what was wrong, but when she did, she was going to come after my ass. I'm sure of that! Right now though, she is just as worried and ready to do anything it takes to help Aeolian. "I told you she is not to be trusted... " Marina mutters, her voice low, her eyes now cutting up to Lila who seems to tense too, her fists balling at her side, her eyes narrowing on us as we seem to almost shield Aeolian. "Are you betraying us, you f*****g rat?! " Marina hisses through her clenches teeth and part of me wants to have her swallow her words back, while part of me know that can be an option. "Betray?! " Lila laughed and rolled her eyes. "If I wanted to do that, I would have led them straight here! I would not have bothered feeding on rabbits and meat you buy at a discounted price! " She yells at Marina and I hear Marina start to growl. "Ok. Ok... No. I'm not having this right now- " I interfere before this escalates, pinching the bridge of my nose, my chest getting heavier with every breath I take. I want to sob, I want to cry, I want to break s**t because I'm tired and absolutely terrified of this. "I've come so far, to save him. To help my mate, to get our bond back. I am not going to cower and hide and risk it all again. We've both been through enough and I am not going to simply abandon my only reason to be alive- " "Only reason?" Lila huffed and I suddenly realized these words hurt her. "How about me? How about all those that wait for you at home? Those that were inspired by your story, your courage and decided to join your suicide mission? " her voice is dim now and she seems to pick her words carefully. "what are you going to do, hm? You've allowed him to taste your blood, to mark you and now you are ready to risk your life again? He'll be fine! He'll manage, and if he doesn't, then tough luck buddy- " she rolls her eyes and she takes a step towards me. "-there are so many others ready to love you-" "You ALLOWED HIM TO MARK YOU?! " Marina's voice silences everything around and before I know it, a loud, agitated growl grows behind me, and Marina shifts into her wolf form. fuck f**k f**k f**k fuck... FUCK! I know what's next, so I hurry to get out of her way, because I don't have to look, to know she charges right at me. I push past Lila and rush outside, while the red furred wolf chases after me, growling, barking, her mouth snapping open and closed, ready to break my bones. I know! I know I f****d up! I did not even realize it that after the bite, Aeolian would get to taste my blood. I did not realize that this was going to have such an effect. I thought the fever, the pain, the insomnia, was due to the trauma, not because a few drops of blood have entered Aeolian's system! I thought my bite would have a bigger effect on him that a few drops of blood. But then... What do I know about this whole s**t?! What do I know about my genes? about myself, about my blood and about how everything works?! "Get back here you f*****g cunt! " I hear Marina's voice yell as I dive into the woods. She had shifted back into her human form and is still trying to catch me. "You're the worst out of your kind! " she barks again as she slows down, losing my trail. As I hide through the branches of the thick trees, She seems to not understand where I had gone, so her steps slow and she looks around through the dark forest with narrowed eyes. "I told him to stay away! I told him that no matter what he feels, this is not a good match! I told him to reject you! I told him to hate you and stop thinking with his d**k! " she continued to spill her anger, her voice turning into a bit more of a whiny tune. " I told him you were not right! I told him and he did not listen! He abandoned his pack for you! He abandoned his home ! He abandoned me and his family! For you! Just for you! For the sake of your stupid f*****g kind! Just to keep you safe- " tears start to roll down her face and I feel guilty of all that and so much more. "He wanted a family of his own. he wanted children and he knew you will never give him any, and yet, he chose you! " her fists hits a tree and the tree groans under her strength. " And now?! Now you allow him to mark you! to taste your blood, while you bleed him dry! While you suck his life out, while you feed on him and selfishly take away all he has to offer! " her sadness turns into anger and rage again and she lets out the most terrifying growl I have ever heard when her eyes land on my figure. "I'm going to have you heart on a stake tonight- " she breathes out and lounges herself forward, shifting into the terrifying beast she hones, trying to bring the tree down. The tree swings under her weight and it feels like it will give up as a loud crack echoes through the bark, splitting it from the base up, while the wolf tries to climb up. I try to regain my balance and jump to the next tree, but I'm not given the chance, when Marina leaps forward and her claws dig into my leg, pulling me down with her as she falls. We both hit the ground and I feel the air leaving my lungs, my mind going blank for a second before my survival instincts kick in as Marina gets up and starts at me again, ready to tear me to pieces. I yelp as her claws scrape right by my face and I roll out of her reach, getting up and scurrying away. "I don't want to fight you! " I yell as I try to lose her, but she is chasing me like a rabbit animal. She did not care for my intentions. She did not care I was not about to fight my mate's beta. She did not care I was not going to fight my own family, my pack... my kin. Because she did not see me as her own kin. I was not part of her pack, I was not part of those she shared a connection with. I was an abomination, a virus that tried to take her down along with all of the rest. I was a pest and I needed to be put out... And despite how much that terrifies me, I don't have the ability to fight her. She's stronger than me, but not faster. So all I can do right now is run... As I hide behind one of the trees, fighting for air and a bit of clarity, I realize I'm not chased anymore. a loud howl shakes the forest, followed by a yelp and a pained bark. The cacophony of sounds grows and I realize something was terribly wrong. "You little cunt! " I hear Lila scream as the wolf yelps again. I have no idea what was happening, what I will find if I go back, and I don't really want to know. I don't want to feel responsible for whatever turn this was taking, but I knew I was. As I walked back, the yelping, the cursing, the screaming got louder and I found Marina pinned on the ground, with Lila above her, her petite figure covered with blood, her claws out, ready to carve out Marina's face, which was already missing tufts of furr. Lila's hands raised above her head and- "No! NO! Stop it! " I screamed and hurried to pull Lila off of Marina. When I touch her, Lila flinches and seems to lose her tension, allowing me to drag her off and away Marina, who remains on the ground, panting, fighting for air, her nose bloodied. A chunk of the wolf's ear is missing and there are other wounds on her body, while Lila was barely touched, and I think that all of the blood on her figure belongs to Marina not to herself. "She was about to kill you!" Lila protests as she frees herself from my grasp and shakes off her talons, her eyes pinned on the defeated wolf in front of her, ready to strike at any given opportunity. "Enough! " I hiss and Lila stays put, wrapping her arms around herself, turning silent. I near the wolf who growls, following me with its eyes. "I'm not going to harm you! Cut the bullshit, Marina! If we were to fight, you know nobody is going to win. If you harm me, Aeolian will not forgive you, and whatever you fight for loses value! I'm not going to harm you because you're my friend! My f*****g friend! " I hissed and the wolf seemed to roll her eyes, staying there, ears flattened. "Good. " I hissed and leaned down to check on the worst of the wounds. The wolf flinches and I mutter an apology. "Can you shift back? I can carry you back in your human form, but not like this... It's also easier to care of something that resembles a human body than a wolf- " I mutters as I check the tufts of fur missing. Marina growls and sighs, and as I asked, she shifts back, her body curled up around herself, her skin covered in bruises and wounds, her nose bleeding and her ear looking as if it was cut clean off. I breathe in deeply and scoop her up, while she growls. "I'm fine- " she hisses and I don't care right now. This was not fine. This was not even remotely fine.
