Chapter 4
Dalia
After grandma told them to go and she would never give me to them unless the time comes. They move away with fear and dismay in their eyes. I want to come with them to wash away those expressions but grandma wouldn't want it. So I comply as to what I was told.
I didn't give a look at Bradley as walked to my room. All this time, he was hiding his true color. He isn't a human or what? I don't know what I should call him after what happened tonight. My mind goes haywire about everything and revelations. Is it just me who doesn't know anything? What are they?
Bradley was trying to call my attention but I didn't give him a chance. I don't want to, as of now. I don't understand anything. Not even a single.
I didn't speak to Bradley for days after that incident. He was trying to. Those days, I tried to think about it but I always end up asking many unanswered questions in my mind. I couldn't bring myself asking my grandma about everything for I don't know where to start.
One morning, grandma approached me after she woke me up. She sat down in my bed beside me.
“Lia, what should we do on your birthday?” she asked, sounding excitedly.
“Birthday?” I quarried. I was clueless as to what day today and when is my birthday.
“Yes. Your birthday will be in the third week. Do you forget, don't you?” She chided.
“What? We have three weeks grandma, what so special?” I asked in monotonous.
“It's your eighteenth birthday, dear. It's a great time of your life.” She exclaimed with a hand gesture.
“No way. We are just celebrating it, normally. Just like other birthdays. I only have you and Bradley, if ever, on my birthday.”
“Dear, that day is special for you. When I was your age, I was excited when that day came and yes, that was my favorite time of my life for I was given a chance to meet my other half.” She was looking somewhere else like she was reminiscing the past at the moment. And I don't like to interrupt her momentum.
“I was blessed to have someone like him. Moon goddess has given me him. He did a lot of sacrifices, only to keep me safe up until his death. He loved me so much that he gave up his own life for mine and our pup’s. I love him even more, even though it hurts like death but I don't have a choice because we have a pup who needs me.”
There was a moment of silence and I was just looking at her. She was lost on her thoughts. But I had a question since the five wolves appeared in our backyard.
“Grandma, Are you a wolf?” I asked innocently like a kid asking for a piece of candy.
Immediately, her attention snaps to me with a smile on her face. Adoration was visible in her eyes. While I am so confused at the moment. I only knew and read them in the book but I didn't think of it as a serious matter for all I know is that they're just fictional, and don't exist. Yet, I am so fond of reading like them. I don't even know what they really are. Human? Wolf? I read something they were called werewolves? I am so confused.
“Yes, dear. A werewolf.” she answered without hesitation and was gentle at the same time.
I froze when she confirmed and I'm not even really ready to hear it. Questions after questions flooded on to my head. I almost couldn't bear it. Thankfully I wrapped it out when I snapped back to reality. I stared at my grandma for a couple of minutes, and when realization hit me. My eyes widened like it would pop out of me.
So, I might also be a werewolf? How could it be? Is this for real or I am just dreaming? Please wake me up from the nightmare.
“No. You're not dreaming, Lia. All you heard were true.” she said laughingly.
My eyes went wide. Could she read my mind?
“And no. I couldn't read your mind. You said it loud.” she laughed at me. “And I read the imaginary question mark on your head. It was obvious.”
“Grandma, you just made fun of me.” she didn't stop laughing. I couldn't help but join her.
“Seriously speaking, to answer your one a million question. Yes, you are also a werewolf.” She confessed.
For the nth time this day, my eyes went wide, wider than the last. I took minutes to process the information. I look at her eyes to find humor in them. Joke's on me, she's really serious. I blink once, twice, and then I burst into fit laughter. I held my stomach and wiped a lone tear in my side eye until I stopped but was still grinning at my grandma.
“Grandma, that was a good joke.” I laughed once more. She was just looking at me with a worried expression. “Do my parents also a werewolves? Or a half or what? Because you are…” I couldn't contain anymore and laughed more. Damn this is madness.
“Yes, they are, dear.”
That's my cue to stop and stare at her. I fell into silence for a moment. My face went blank but my mind went haywire. Questions after questions again and I hate it.
“I.. I.. You.. Y-You didn't tell me.” I stuttered. I laughed but this time, I laughed without humor. “This.. This is madness.”
“I'm sorry, Lia.” She said, full of sincerity.
“In my 17 years of existence? You didn't tell me anything? What is it? A curse?” I shook my head, hysterically. I couldn't believe this.
Then my head recalled everything that was happening whenever my birthday came. Then, my head hurts like no tomorrow. I screamed and clutched at my head using my hands.
“Grandma. It hurts. Ahhh!!” I groaned in pain.
My vision goes blurred. I couldn't understand my surroundings. I have heard voices, not just my grandma's. I screamed once more before my vision went blank.
