Emily Mate? I sat up pulling away from Zeke, the feeling of being ripped in half with the movement was overwhelming. I’m his mate? No way, he’s just super nice to me. Maybe even feels pity for me. But not my mate, he deserves better. “Brielle, what do you mean?” Zeke asked, sounding completely confused, which made me nod in agreement. “Ugh, bro you need to listen when our parents explain the mating bond you big dummy. Ok, first does your skin tingle when you two touch?” Brielle asked, just as Zeke spits out the water he just took a sip of. Thankfully, he turned his head away from his family. Before I even knew it, I found my hand on his back slowly rubbing it to ease his discomfort. Wow, he is built! Like not a soft spot on him! “I’ll take that as a yes. Second, do you both feel drawn towards each other's scent?” Brielle asked. “I can’t pick up any scent, I haven’t gotten my animal yet.” I told them, fully surprised I even let that slip out of my mouth. “Now that explains everything, our mom said she wasn’t able to smell our dads because she was human. So I bet the moment you get your animal, then you both should feel the bond faster.” Brielle stated as she plopped her last fry in her mouth, smiling triumphantly. “Wait, Emily’s my mate?” Zeke asked, with the sound of disbelief in his voice. Not letting on if he’s disappointed or not, causing me to feel uneasy. “Yep, I bet your wolf has been trying to get you to do things with her already.” Brielle says teasingly. “Kaff! Kaff!” Causing me to choke on my water now, instantly Zeke was softly rubbing and patting my back now. Finally, I was able to get some air into my lungs. Did she just say his wolf would be wanting me now? Like isn’t that…like saying he’s having dirty thoughts? “So Zeke? Are you going to let us know what your wolf is feeling?” This time it was Elisa asking, her excitement was definitely showing already. “I believe..” Zeke began saying. BRING! BRING! Shoot! Just as he was about to hopefully tell me what he's feeling. Getting up I was about to start walking towards the cafeteria, when Zeke grabbed my tray. “I’ll walk it back, which class do you have next?” He said before asking. “Thank you, Zeke.” I said, feeling my cheeks heat up before telling him, “Science.” “Perfect, then I’ll see you there. Save me a seat will you.” He said with a wink of his beautiful blue green eye before walking through the entrance back into the school. “Yep, you're his mate.” Brielle said from behind me. “Why do you think so?” I asked now that he’s gone. “Well Emily, let’s just say that our boy Ezekiel doesn’t mess with girls. He barely talks to them, let alone holds them during lunch.” She said the last part with a smirk. I didn’t think anyone saw that. “Ooh, but maybe he’s just like Elisa and wants a new friend?” I told her while we walked into the building. Laughing she says, “Zeke is looking at you like you're the last burger and he’s a starving beast! I doubt him and Elisa’s reasoning for wanting to be near you are the same.” Feeling my whole body get warm, as I most likely looked like a tomato. I quickly said, “He doesn’t look at me like that.” “Em, can I call you Em?” With my nod of approval she continued, “I’m going to tell you something, your relationship with Zeke might get strange at some point. As Zeke was told very young he was to complete a prophecy. So if he ever tries telling you anything along the lines of ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘This can’t happen now’. I want you to stand tall and demand him to keep you. Can you do that for me?” Brielle asked, her facial expression was of desperation as her eyes pleaded with mine. “I can.” I told her, hoping if it happens that I can actually say something like that. I’m an omega, we’re not ones to demand things. But for Brielle, I’ll try. Brielle seemed to have become my other friend as she walked me to my locker then to science class. Zeke hasn’t made it yet, so I picked a seat where there were a few options for him to choose. “Ugh, I’m in here with the ugly witch? Like did you see how she had our Zekikens all slaves out carrying her tray like a zombie?” A girl to my left said with a squeaky voice. “Yeah, she must have gotten Elisa too! Maybe we should teach her a lesson.” Another girl said. Sinking into my seat, I wished the teacher would already get to class or Zeke. “Look at her, she’s ratchet!” The squeaky voice girl said. Feeling a tear slip down my cheek, as all the memories of my old pack flashed before my eyes. The insults, hitting, spitting, as they repeatedly abused me because my father wasn’t there to protect me anymore. Remembering the black, sticky cold room I was trapped in when Alpha Lucas rescued me and a few others. “Emily, what’s wrong?” Zeke asked, his soft hand gently lifting my head until our eyes locked. His eyes went dark as they traveled the tears that were flowing down my cheek. “Who was it?” He asked through clenched teeth as he stood there looking around the classroom now. Not wanting anything bad to happen, I grabbed his hand. “It’s nothing, please sit down.” I pleaded as I knew he’d recognize the two girls from lunch. His eyes whipped back to mine, slightly turning back into the bright beautiful blues and greens as he slipped in beside me. Pulling me into his large warm chest as he inhaled deeply around my neck…is he..no.. he can’t be.. right? He can’t be breathing in my scent, right? Only mated males do that, we’re not even mates…right? I guess he realized what he did as he soon unfolds his arms and lets me go. His cheeks turn a light shade of pink as he scratches the back of his head, “Sorry about that. I don’t know what came over me.” He said while looking everywhere but at me. “It’s ok, kind of the heat of the moment kind of thing. Right?” I asked with a soft smile, he’s so adorable all shy like that. “Right.” He said before smiling, then turning in his seat so he can see the front of the class just as the teacher walks in. “Alright class, today we will be uncovering all the possibilities of excavating fossils. I’ll be passing out our project for the day with a piece of paper. I want you to figure out what all our flying species ate.” Mrs. Greenbrier said while passing papers down each line of desks and then she went to a huge tote, pulling out balls of foil she started placing one in front of each student. Next she pulls out little boxes and does the same. Once there in front of everyone she says, “Began.” I reach over and unfold the foil, until I’m met with a weird brown ball. “Yep, it’s bird poop.” Zeke said before opening his. We’re going to play with bird poop? What an add class, I open up the little box to find a few digging tools. Lifting up the tweezers, I sigh before starting digging into the bird droppings. I felt Zeke move until his chair was against mine before he started on his poop ball. Ha! Poop ball! Yep, I think I lost it. Wow, I found something hard in here..it’s a bone. Laying it further away so I wouldn’t lose it, I dug back in. It felt like we were at it for hours, I found multiple bones and a skull. After searching every little speck of the poop, I started putting the bones to the correct animals she had listed on the paper she passed out. So our bird here ate a mouse and maybe a rat..it’s hard to say as this one bone is different from the rest. “Well done Emily.” Mrs. Greenbrier said in front of me as she was walking around the classroom. “It seems your bird ate a fish bone, how interesting as well as a mouse and rat. What a hungry creature it was.” She finished before walking off towards a student that had their hand up. “She’s right, you did great! I, on the other hand, found a dud. Only one bone, and it doesn’t seem to be any of the animals on the list either.” Zeke said while looking at the mess on the desktop. Leaning over to get a better look, made our shoulders touch. The tingles rippled down my body and to my core. Wow, are they getting stronger? Shaking my head out of my thoughts I saw it, picking up my tweezers I pulled out a bone from Zeke’s pill and showed him. “Make it two bones.” I giggled as I placed the bone down on the spot he had the other laying. “Wow, you're really good at this! How didn’t I see that?” Zeke said while looking down at the new bone in wonder. “Ok class, let’s clean up. Make sure to glue your bones to the paper before the bell rings!” Mrs. Greenbrier said while walking towards the front of the class. Quickly I glued my bones down, then I was pushing everything else back into the foil and walking towards the trash can to toss it away.
