Chapter 6

2000 Words
Jake’s POV I am sitting on my front porch, smoking a cigarette, enjoying the peace and quiet until my phone vibrates in my pocket. It’s a text from my friend, Austin. Austin: Hey, you want to get online and play some video games? Me: Sorry can’t. The new girl I was telling you about is moving in today. Waiting to get a good look. Austin: Good Luck. I laugh and put my phone back in my pocket to go back to relaxing. Ever since I learned a girl my age was moving next door; I had a plan worked out to get with her. Part of that plan includes helping her move in so she thinks I am a nice guy. My peace is interrupted though by someone blasting country music as they drive down the road. I look up and see a blue, Toyota Rav4 with a dirty blonde sitting behind the wheel singing and dancing along to the song playing without a care in the world. She pulls into the driveway next to mine. Looks like the new girl is here. She shuts her car off and heads to the truck to grab a few duffle bags out of it. I can’t get a good look at her because she is wearing sunglasses, but what I can see is she is short. If I was the relationship type I think I would go for someone who was short. I think the two of us would look cute together especially with me being six foot and one inch. I would love to have a girl I could pick up and carry around on my back. Unfortunately, I’m not that type of guy. Even though I can’t see her face, I can tell she has a nice ass. It looks great in those jean shorts she is wearing. As she walks into her house, I send Austin a quick text. Me: She is here. Couldn’t see her face but she’s got a nice ass. Her father, Phil, walks outside and goes to grab something out of the moving truck. I stomp on the cigarette I was smoking and make my way across the lawn. “Hey Phil, how are you?” I shout as I walk in his direction. He turns around holding a box he got out of the truck. “Hey, Jake, I’m doing pretty good. My wife and daughter just got here so now I have to do things.” I laugh and Phil asks, “By the way, did you ever get the radio fixed in your car?” Phil and I met a couple of weeks ago when he was dropping a few things off. I was replacing a belt on my car when he walked over and asked if I needed any help. The guy is super knowledgeable about cars and has some nice sports cars in their new garage. He is also really chill and laid back, so I enjoy talking to him, not like my dad who is an uptight businessman. Phil on the other hand is a welder and likes to work on his cars during his past time. “Yeah, I got it fixed. Thanks for helping me find that part I needed.” The two of us talk for a bit longer before a woman who looks a couple of years younger than him steps outside. “Phil, you going to bring anything inside?” she asks, sounding annoyed with a hand on her hip. He has an apologetic look on his face as he says, “Sorry Amy, I am talking to Jake, the young boy that lives next door to us.” She approaches me with a smile and introduces herself to me. “Have you met our daughter, Kaylie yet? Phil told me you were the same age as her.” I shake my head. “No, not yet. She hasn’t come back out of the house yet.” Phil told me a few things about her when we were working on my car. Apparently, she is a good girl that doesn’t get into trouble. She is super smart and very focused on doing well in school. Sounds to me like she needs a bad boy to show her how to live. Before anything else is said the front door opens and a gorgeous girl walks out with a black and white cattle dog. She has big blue eyes and a cute small nose. Her dirty blonde hair is pulled into a loose side braid with a few strands falling around her face. She walks up to her parents and pays no attention to me. “I’m going to take the dog for a walk before I finish clearing out my car.” She doesn’t wait for them to respond and starts to walk off saying, “Okay, see you in a bit.” Her father grabs her arm to stop her. “Kay wait. Let me introduce you to our new neighbor, Jake.” She finally acknowledges me and smiles. I can’t help but smile too because her smile is contagious. She extends her hand out. “Hi, I’m Kaylie.” I take her hand and shake it. “I’m Jake,” I say with a wink without her parents seeing. However, she doesn’t seem phased by it. Dang, this is going to be a little harder than I thought. She nods. “Oh, so you’re the kid my dad has been talking about. Well, it’s nice to meet you.” She then turns back to her parents like she did her obligated introduction. “I’m going to go now.” Before she can walk away, I quickly say, “Hey, I’ll come with you.” “You don’t have to do that you probably have better things to do than hanging out with my dog and me.” Her voice has a slight hint of brokenness when she says that. Phil did tell me that something happened to her at her old school, but he didn’t go into any details. “No, it’s no big deal. I actually came over to see if you needed any help moving your stuff.” I say trying to reassure her. She nods with a small smile. “Okay.” We walked down the street past a few houses, and I couldn’t get close to her. Every time I try to get closer to her, the dog makes his way between us. Am I seriously getting c**k blocked by a dog? “I don’t think your dog likes me.” She stops and he sits right in front of her. “No, that’s not it. He’s just very protective of me. This dog loves everything, he can’t even hurt a fly. I’m not joking, I have seen him try.” She bends down and scratches his head. “What’s his name?” She looks slightly embarrassed as she says, “His name is Jar Jar. I’m sorry, I know it’s a stupid name.” I raise an eyebrow at her. “Um, are you a Star Wars fan?” She bites her. “No, haven’t seen a single movie. We got him from a shelter, and he came with that name. We decided not to change it, cause he already knew his name. Plus, it kind of fits him since he is a little derpy.” Holy s**t, she looks so hot biting her lip. When she was talking, I wasn’t listening that hard because I was wondering what it would be like to bite it myself. She then says, “Put your hand out in front of his face. He needs to get to know you, then he’ll trust you.” I do what she says, and Jar Jar starts to sniff me. His tail starts to wag, so I pet his head. “See now he likes you.” I become very aware of how close the two of us are during this interaction. I look down at her with a smirk while she looks up at me biting her lip. Please stop doing that! But before I know it she is getting thrown into my chest and wrap my arms around her to keep her from falling. I hear her mutter, “Shit.” When the two of us collide together. Oh, so good girl can swear. She backs away and yells to Jar Jar to leave it who is currently barking up a tree. After a slight tug of the leash, he makes his way back to us. “Sorry, he loves everything except squirrels.” The three of us continue on the walk, but this time Kaylie and I are a lot closer. As we talk and get more comfortable with each other, I place my arm around her shoulders. But I immediately noticed her tense up. Shoot, I didn’t mean to make her uncomfortable. Right when I am about to remove it, she stops me saying, “It’s fine. Sorry, you just caught me off guard.” She looks up at me and gives me a faint smile, but that pain behind her eyes I saw earlier is back. Why is it there? Does it have to do with why she moved? I nod and she starts to relax. But I can’t stop thinking about it. There is something about her that makes me want to protect her and I don’t know what it is. I try to brush it off and focus on our walk. “So, what are some things you like to do in your free time?” I ask. I am genuinely curious because I don’t know anything about her, except for the few things Phil told me. She shrugs, “Lots of things. Fishing, video games, reading, and mainly being outside whether it is kayaking or walking Jar Jar. What about you?” “I like playing video games, hanging out with my friends, going to parties, and hooking up.” She rolls her eyes at my last comment. “What, you don’t like to go to parties and have s*x? Your dad did tell me you’re a good girl and you don’t get into trouble.” “Well, what my dad doesn’t know, won’t kill him,” She replies cheekily.” “Wait. What’s that supposed to mean?” “He wasn’t lying. I am a really good student, and I don’t like getting in trouble. But that doesn’t mean I don’t go to parties. Oh, and just because I don’t have s*x doesn’t mean I don’t do other things.” She gives me a wink and starts to walk ahead of me. I start to blush slightly. Wait, I don’t blush. What the hell is wrong with me? Man, she is just being a tease. I shake my head and catch up to her. We get back to her house and she lets me know she will be right back as she brings the dog into the house. I make my way over to her car and open her truck, ready to unload it. While I wait for her to come back outside, I lean up against it and check my phone. I have texts from Austin and Logan. Austin: So, you get a good look at her. What she like? Me: Hot, but nothing like I thought she would be Austin: What does that mean? Me: I will tell you more later * Logan: Austin told me you were hanging out with the new girl. Is she hot? You going to tap that? Me: Yeah, she’s hot. I’m trying to. But I have a feeling she is going to be a challenge. I put my phone back in my pocket when I see her walking toward me. With a smile she asks, “You ready?” I quickly stand up and give her a nod, as the two of us start unloading her car.
