Chapter 10

1233 Words
When I open my eyes it was already 10:00, My stomach was already filled with gas and I really need to have food not just for myself but for the life that was growing inside me. I didn't have time to wear the servent's uniform, I just ran toward the kitchen where we were supposed to be for dinner. Most of them were already returning to the room finishing their meal and some who were still there were on their last bite.  I went toward a girl who was picking up empty plates, 'Who are you?', asked her as I was in my normal getup 'I am one of the servants', I stammered 'Servants are supposed to wear uniform', she shouted at me 'I am sorry, this is my first day and I just woke up to find out I was already past the dinner time' 'Unlucky you, you have to sleep with an empty stomach today', she went ahead picking up the plates 'Please please please I haven't eaten anything since yesterday. Please help me' 'I can't servants are the last one to have dinner, all the extra foods are already thrown away' 'I can have anything, bitten rice, boiled wheat anything please' 'You are too pathetic, wait for a minute here', said she and went inside. Till yesterday my mom was begging me to come out of the room to have a delicious dinner but just after 1 day there, I was begging for food with a random lady. I missed my mom, her warm hugs, her kind words, her care, her food, her presence. I can't even imagine what she may be going through about my disappearance yet I was there far from her following the love forgetting everything else in my life. The lady came with plastic with bitten rice inside it, 'This is all we have there, to add up spice I have kept a green chilly in there and some salts' 'Thank you very much.' 'Now go away let me do my work', she had a really rude voice yet she was the first one who had helped me there, given me food to eat. She was an angel to me, my first one-sided friend. I went to a nearby mattress which was spread on the floor. In that hunger that bitten rice which used to be my hatest item tasted heavenly. My mom used to say the food isn't the one which is delicious the hunger is the one which makes it delicious. Her each and every word roamed around my ears with every single bite of that bitten rice and chilly. While returning to the bed, everyone was already there in their place staring at me. I ignored all of them and proceed toward my bed. I quietly wrapped myself in a blanket and covered my face lying down against the pillow ignoring all of them. I wasn't ready to tackle anyone and I didn't find that important to make friends there, I thought I was going to get free after meeting Shreyan in within a few days. 'Why are you smiling?', a girl sleeping on the bed above me asked some of a girl lying down on the bed next to her. 'You won't believe whom I talked today' 'Who?' 'Young master', the words got grabbed my attention 'You are lying, we are forbidden to talk with them' 'Oh my god! that moment is still roaming around my eyes. I fell on the ground while cleaning the shelf and he suggested me to be careful. I can’t believe he talked to me' 'Lucky you, some of us can't even get to see him' 'I know, I am going to have a great sleep tonight'. Her words were making my heartache, there was a huge competition on Shreyan. In that mess how was I going to get a chance to talk to him? My new life begins with the horn of bell buzzing continuously in our section reminding us about our working time. I barely had asleep last night thinking about meeting Shreyan. I was more energetic and excited. I dressed as a servant and went on the duty to clean the library at first. Shreyan when he was at ours used to say that the library was the place where he used to find peace. So probably he would come there, I thought that way, but despite being there for 2 hours pretending to blow dust from books there was no sign of him. Other servants were looking at me in suspicion as I was not doing anything at all. I had no idea about work, I even didn't know how to use a blower as I never used one. As time went by the suspicion in other servent's eyes increased I couldn't be there anymore. So I thought of going to the kitchen. Cooks were working for breakfast and helpers were cutting vegetables, apparently, I was the only one cleaning there. I didn't have to use a blower or any type of modern technology there, so it was a plus point for me. The breakfast time passed by, the mealtime passed by. I almost covered all the areas of my work, but not even a once I get to see him. I didn't want to spend one more day in that bed smelling the bad odor of the toilet. I tried to go near his room but the staring eyes of the servants and warning of the manager stopped me from that too.  My whole day went by in disappointment. Another day went by without Shreyan and the worst part was I had nothing to do but hope maybe I will get the chance the next day. After dinner when I went to the servent's section, other girls were standing in front of me blocking my way to the bed. 'Excuse me', I said trying to avoid their eyes 'What are you doing here', asked the girl who used to sleep in the bed above mine 'Excuse me?' 'What are you doing here? I am keeping an eye from you since the morning and one thing I know for sure you aren't here to work. So what are you doing here?' 'You might have misunderstood. It's my first time doing this type of work so I was nervous'. 'Nervous, my foot', she came toward me while all others gathered around us, 'I am asking you for the last time, What are you doing here? I have seen you trying to peek into young master's room, I have seen you having trouble cleaning which is your job, I have seen your eyes roaming around the house. So don’t think of lying to me' 'I am telling you the truth, it's my first time I was nervous' 'Oh girl, you aren't going to agree so easily', said she grabbing my hair 'Ouch! Ouch!', I cried in pain, 'What are you doing? please leave my hair, please' 'I am making you taste the result of your own deeds', said she pushing me on the floor. 'If you want to survive here, try to stay within the rule, and stay far from our young master', said she and went to her bed, all of the other girls laughed at me. My life was already a whole mess I didn't think it could be any worst. I slowly lifted myself and strolled to my bed hanging my head low with tears in my eyes. 'Shreyan where are you, please find me soon', my heart was praying again and again.
