There are different ways for a lone wolf to become an Alpha.
If he was born into a pack with his parents already possessing the title, that certain wolf could directly inherit the title from his parents, or he could inherit the status upon recommendation.
Another way is when a lone wolf kills an Alpha after a duel. The lone wolf could now possess and lead, not just the title, but also the previous Alpha's pack.
And the last method is...the rarest one. They did not need to inherit the status nor kill an Alpha. A wolf could attain the status of an Alpha due to their sheer willpower and strength of character. And that could only be achieve through the years.
That's why, hearing Leon is now the new Alpha of the Romanoff pack was still...a surprise to me.
