Cleo   Duncan rested peacefully throughout the night. I had only slept a few hours on the couch before I found myself sitting by his bed again. I stared at the monitor that recorded his heartbeat and drummed the beats along with my thumb on the back of his hand. Dr. Enzo had come by when he arrived early this morning to check on Duncan. He said that the no change was a better sign than the alternative.   I had almost forgotten that Chloe had promised to come by this morning until she walked in. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she looked as though she had been up all night crying.
