Marcus P.O.V
“Mr Taylor, Miss Clark is here, you 1pm? Will I send her in?” my assistant Rosa smiled looking at me
“Yes please. The sooner I get these interviews over the better. Are you sure you need to move away?” I chuckled
“Yes Marcus I do.” She laughed shaking her head
Rosa had been my assistant since I started my company ten years ago. She was an older woman, in her late 40’s, she was the best at what she does but she was moving away to South Africa with her husband. They deserved it though, they have always both been very hard workers.
“I know, I know. Please send her in. She can’t be any worse than the rest I have met today.” I groaned annoyed
“Give the poor girl chance.” She laughed before leaving
I turned to look out of the window, waiting for her to come in. I am hoping she is not as useless as the other people I have interviewed today. Soon enough I heard my office door open and then a loud thud, making me turn around. I stood from my seat, looking around.
“Um Miss Clark is there a reason you are laying on my floor?” I found myself chuckling
“Oh my God.” She said, her voice shaking, she was clearly embarrassed
I made my way over, standing in front of her, looking down at her, c*****g my brow. She looked up at me, her face bright red and a shy smile on her lips. I have to admit it was kind of cute. I chuckled before reaching my hand down for her to take. She grabbed my hand and I helped her to her feet.
“I am so sorry about that Sir. I am such a klutz at time. Not a great first impression, maybe I should leave before I embarrass myself even more.” She said nervously, chewing on her lip
I found myself studying her closely for a moment. She had the most drawing green eyes, her dark hair flowed over her shoulders naturally. I found my eyes trailing down her body, falling on the curves of her hips. I licked my lips as I let my eyes trail over her. I finally found my way back to her eyes, realising I was still holding her hand. I quickly pulled away, taking a couple of steps back, pulling myself together.
“Please Miss Clark take a seat.” I said walking away, making my way back over to my chair, sitting down
Miss Clark nodded, following me, taking the seat at the front of my desk. I tilted my head a little, having another look at her. She was not usually my type but I was very intrigued by her, something that does not happen to me very often….actually it never happens to me. I licked my lips as my eyes fell on her lips, finding myself wondering what they would be like to kiss. What is wrong with me? I need to get on with this interview.
“Do you have your CV on you?” I asked
“Yes Sir.” She blushed handing me a folder
I took it from her, opening it. Hmm she was only twenty-one…nine years younger than me. That is not too much of an age gap. Why is my mind going back to thinking inappropriate things about her? I gave myself a shake, reading through the rest. She was only two months out of college after studying business, not much work experience though.
“I see you don’t have much work experience why that is?” I asked looking up at her
“I went straight from high school to college. College took up all my time, never had time for much else.” She said “I know I have no experience but I am willing to learn, I am a quick learner. I am very driven and loyal Sir.” She said smiling at me
“Loyalty is one thing that is very important to me Miss Clark. I do not do second chances. You screw up once you will be out of the door. I never built this business with being weak and soft. If I give you this job do you think you can handle it? I can be a horrible person when things don’t go my way or if people mess up. I am hard on my staff. I will be mean to you when I need to be. I cannot be bothered with excuses and other people’s problem. Being my assistant is not an easy job. You will be at my beck and call 24/7 if I need you. You work Monday to Friday, some nights until after 9pm…you are also expected to work every second Saturday. You will be my plus one at last minutes events because I do not have time to find a plus one and I refuse to show up alone. If I go out the country for work you will be coming with me. You always need to make sure you have a bag packed in case of last minute business. Do you think you could handle all that?” I said finally taking a breath
I looked at her to find her standing there, looking a little taken back.
“Miss Clark I do not like being ignore. Do you think you can handle all of that?” I asked again, a little annoyed
“Yes Sir. I can handle all of that.” She said only loud enough for me to hear her and no more
“Good. I will give you a week trail…you mess up even once you are out the door got it?” I said
“Yes Sir.” She said nervously
“Good. Now you can go. I expect you here Monday morning in my office by 730am with a large Americano in hand from Starbucks, the one two doors down from here. No milk or sugar…black and strong. You will be shadowing my present assistant for your first three days, after that you will be on your own. Now run along I have a lot of work to do. You are as much as two minutes late on Monday do not bother showing up.” I said turning away from her
“See you Monday Sir.” She whispered, heading out
As soon as I heard the door close over I turned back around. I sighed to myself, running my hands through my hair. I was a little harsh on her, more than I needed to be. Everything I told her was true, well except the 24/7 beck and call thing, that is not in her contract at all so I do not even know why I said that. I had a strong urge to get to know her…spend some time with her. I am still trying to work out why she intrigued me as much. I guess time would tell won’t it.
Rosa soon arrived in my office, glaring at me, her hand on her hip
“What?” I asked
“What did you do to that poor girl? She looked terrified?” Rosa asked sternly
“I told her straight about how this job will be. How I am. She can’t handle it that is her problem.” I said shrugging
“You honestly need to stop thinking the worse about everyone. You be nice to her or you will have me to deal with OK?” She said pointing her finger at me
“Yes mam.” I said
“Good. I will be keeping an eye on you Marcus.” She said
“Yeah, yeah I know. Now leave me alone.” I chuckled
Rosa was the only one that is allowed to talk to me that way, put me in my place and tell me when I am being too mean. She was like a mother figure to me in away. I thought very dearly of her.
“I will be by later with your lunch.” She laughed, leaving my office
I turned to my laptop, deciding to do some research on Miss Clark. I opened f*******:, she was young I am sure she would have it. I typed Hope Clark into the search bar and luckily only one came up and it was her. I clicked on it, glad it was not private. I don’t usually do research this way when hiring but as I mentioned I was curious about her. Her profile photo was of her and another girl, maybe that was her friend or sister or girlfriend. She was smiling widely in the photo, she looked really happy. I scrolled through her page, seeing her relationship status as single. I took a look through her photos, reading about her interest. Hmm she liked a lot of the same music and movies as me. I soon realised I should not be doing this, soon clicking out of it. On the upside at least I have learned some more about her, gives me some topics to talk about when we are travelling. I decided to stop thinking about her and get back to work cause I had a lot of work to do.
