The next night she was called to see Claudius. I was ordered to accompany her. When we were shown into his room there were two girls already there, both of them naked. Claudius was lying on a couch with a sheet draped across his midriff. His head was in the lap of one of the girls, who was dropping grapes into his mouth. The other girl was kneeling on the floor, kissing his feet and occasionally sucking one of his toes. Griselda looked surprised, though I had warned her there might be others present. But Claudius clapped his hands and made a gesture, and the two girls immediately scurried way.
