Dad had stepped upstairs leaving me alone with mother in the huge kitchen. I was setting the cutlery in the dishwasher after the small snack we’d had for brunch. Matthew was upstairs with Jazmin. She joined us this morning, unexpectedly.
I was relieved that the meal was over. Jazmin was being unbearable as usual throwing jabs at me, coating them as friendly remarks. The fact that she kept bringing the Luke issue up was infuriating. The worse part being the inquisitive stares I kept getting from mother at the table.
