ALEX
Chapter 8
>>>>>>>>>> SIX WEEKS LATER
“Welcome to Bell-air high school, Ms. Lenaolars,” the principal says cheerfully welcoming the two of us in her office. Which frankly looked boring as hell, a typical head teacher’s office like with countless trophies and school banners.
I just joined high school, Bellair High to be specific. My father was surprised when I bought ‘finishing school’ thing up but after explaining the pros of my ideas, he accepted.
I was twenty two years old turning 23 in two months but it did not matter to me. Besides age was but a number. I looked young and I could easily pass for an 18 year old. Besides education did not have an ascribed age.
I had a personal target in mind and I’d move mountains and oceans to achieve it.

“Thank you ma’am,” Alex replies, Mrs. Eckel beckons for her to take a seat. Her dad was with her too, the principal goes over the rules and explains how the school operates.
Alex takes everything in as she studies her office. It was large with the desk placed centrally facing the door and a few coaches in the room. A big school banner was placed by the door and school posters adorned the walls. On the right side was a big glass case that held trophies that symbolized the school’s excellence in whatever activities they did to win them.
There was only one drawback with this school, students had to wear uniform. They wore uniforms for four days and had one day, Fridays to dress in their home clothes.
The girls wore short red pleated skirt that had dark blue stripes, a white blouse with a blue ribbon tied at the collar or had the option of a tie and a red blazer. The boys went with dark blue trousers, white shirts, dark blue tie and red blazers. Not to add the ugly looking ass shoes that felt very uncomfortable. Waking on them felt walking on thorns. Alexandra knew she looked ridiculous in this s**t show of a uniform but she had to adhere to the school’s regulations
“Let me go get your assigned tour guide,” the principals tell Alex, “she will be your guide for a week, to show you the ropes and familiarize you with how things work within the school.” She walks out of the office after smiling politely at the two.
“How many?” my father asks staring into spare.
“Three sir,” I answer fast looking at my father, when he smiles at me, I couldn’t help pumping my chest out in delight. Father always taught me to find exits in a room just in case anything happened. From where I was seated I’d made out exactly three. The door which was behind us, the vent on the ceiling and the large windows behind the principal.
“Why do you want to finish high school so bad Alexandra?” he asks looking at me in the eyes, it came as a surprise to Mr. Tyler when Alex announced that she wanted to join high school again. “Aren’t I teaching you everything you need to know of the business? Isn’t that enough Alexandra?”
“It is sir but I just want to accomplish something for myself. And I do not want to shame you sir by being just a school drop-out,” she tries explaining as she throws in lies in to her excuse. Actually she did not care for school she was here for personal reasons.
Alexandra had never felt self-conscious of her educational background. I mean those were just papers, they didn’t mean s**t. It did not matter as long as you had skills. She did stand out as a sore thumb compared to some of her friends who had completed high school and college but she really didn’t care.
“I’m proud of your Alexandra. You are my only daughter,” he says to her. “Just don’t forget your obligations and duties to me and the business.”
“I won’t sir.”
The principal enters and breaks up the moment. Her father’s word keep ringing in her head. Alex notices the principal had another girl trailing behind her. She has glasses and short blonde hair reaching her shoulders. She greets Alex and her father. The principal excuses the two girls and is left with Alex’s father.
“Hi, my name is Caroline Battears. Nice to meet you.”
“Hey I’m Alexandra but people just call me Alex, nice to meet you too Caroline,” Alex replies to the girl. She closely studies the girl standing in front of her, she looked to between 16 or 17 years old, pretty young but also pretty nervous around Alex as she fidgets with her fingers. She always had that effect on people making them uneasy and jumpy around her. She used it as her secret weapon a useful means to an end.
“Thanks. You have your schedule with you right, I’ll show you to your classes. You can sit with my friends and me at lunch if…if you want.” Alex smiles at her kindness and decides to hand her schedule.
She had six classes. From eight till four. She had two breaks in between her classes, one a short break and the other lunch period.
It was 8:25 and she had biology as her first period. They walked down the lonely hallway with Caroline explaining different areas of the school. The guide excused herself as she went to drink at the faucet positioned at the wall.
Alex decided to walk ahead in short strides waiting for the girl to catch up.
The school colors were red, blue and white were embellished on the walls and the floors too. The Bellair bobcats, Bellair Warriors and Bellair Cheerios were plastered on almost all the walls. Even the lockers were painted the school colors with dark blue stripes at the bottom. The institution did really have a wholesome school spirit.
“What are you doing outside of class Jazmin,” an authoritative voice says, breaking the silence in the corridors. Alex turns to her left and looks down the hallway. Where she saw four girls standing close together. Three of the girl had their backs to Alex and the one facing her way was blocked by their bodies.
One of them had a different colored blazer, blue in color and the rest were in red. She sees a blonde girl holding a book in hand, her blazer was the one different from the rest of the girls she is talking to.
The other three girls were towering over her in an intimidating stance, partially hiding her view, though she seemed to be holding her ground just fine. A prefect maybe.
“You are not the boss of me Aldrich!” the one who seems to be the leader of the trio snaps at the girl arrogantly. The two girls behind snicker and push the prefect. The name Aldrich sparks her interest as she gazes at the elfin figure in the center.
“Jazmin! Get to class before I write you all up for detention,” she says back although the authority in her voice seems to waver with every word she utters. The prefect moves and Alex is able to see her clearly.
It was her.
“Why don’t you bite me Aldrich,” the Jazmin, leader says.
“Yeah bite us little Amber,” a second girl coos as her hand pet Amber’s hair. Amber opens up her book when the leader’s voice stops her.
“I’d like to see you try Aldrich. I’ll crush like the little freaky eyed gremlin you are,” the leader spats in Ambers face, shoving her hard into wall.
She looks petrified but lifts her pen to write on her little book. The Jazmin girl knocks the book on the floor before shoving Amber hard into the wall again.
So that was Jazmin Blackheart huh?
As Alex studies the girl she realizes the distinct difference between Amber and Jazmin. The two looked nothing alike. Jazmin had a black hair with ochre highlights at the end and stood at 5”7 with an athletic body. Her complexion far from Ambers.
She says something to her two friends as they stride down the hallway leaving Amber alone but not before showing her the middle finger.
“Later loser,” the second girl shouts. The three of them laugh mockingly as they high five.
Ambers seems worked up but picks her book and begins to make her way in my direction. I immediately retract backwards not sure if I wanted her to see me.
What if she recognized me from that day? Maybe after all this was a terrible idea. My fast movements end up causing a collision with Caroline who was right behind me.
“Whoa! Sorry…” she tries to apologize but immediately shuts up when Alex rewards her with a look. Caroline moves from me quietly and beckon me to follow her. We were moving towards the fire and I can’t help but wonder if I’d burn and crush in the coming seconds.
“Good morning Caroline,” Amber greets my school guide, “Are you just coming from Mrs. Eckel office?” She asks smiling brightly at us. A total mood switch from the wrecked one she had a few minutes ago.
I stand behind Caroline as I partially hide from her.
“Morning Amber and yes, I’m just showing Alex around before heading to her first period,” Caroline says.
Caroline moves to her side a bit and I’m left facing her directly, Amber looks at me softly before she stretches her hand to greet me. Her eyes holding peace and serenity despite her earlier altercations with the three schoolgirls.
I feel like my heart stops beating as the brown and blue eyes land on me. And I’m left staring at her, she really looked different when conscious and not all tied up like the last time.
Wow! Her eyes were just…
Alex is truly taken aback by the eye colors up-close. They were definitely Amber’s striking feature. She was a beauty to revere. With a perfectly chiseled face that was shaped doll like.
“Hi, I’m Amber Aldrich, nice to finally meet you,” she warmly says as if she was expecting me but I can only stare trying muster a monotone face. My heart was beating widely at the chance of her recognizing me. “Hey do I know you…wait! Wait a minute you are the coffee shop girl?”
“Huh?” Coffee shop girl well that was anticlimactic.
