Second Day

733 Words
I stare at the area where Richard's hand used to be. My head gets dizzy from seeing all of the blood and the next thing I know, my vision is engulfed with darkness. *** My alarm goes off and I groggily reach to my nightstand and shut it off. Well, let's hope the second day of senior year goes better than yesterday. As I head into the kitchen for a much-needed coffee, I do a doubletake at who is sitting at the table. "Mom? What are you doing awake so early?" When she doesn't answer me, I take a seat near her. "Mom?" My heart aches when she finally looks up at me and tears stream her eyes. I may not like her, but it still sucks to see the woman who birthed me so upset. "Richard got attacked by a wolf last night. He's at the hospital as we speak. Not that you care." I know how f****d up it sounds, but I feel relieved at hearing that. Biting the inside of my cheeks, I repress the smile wanting to form on my face. "How is he?" I dare to ask, feigning concern. "Oh, quit the bullshit. I know you don't give a damn about him!" With that, she gets up and storms back upstairs. Well, at least I tried. Finally getting my cup of coffee, I sip it delightfully before heading to school. As I walk past the bakery, my anger toward Richard rises within me. I can't believe I'm grounded and not allowed back until my birthday. Not that he knows that's my plan, but whatever. Once I make it to my locker, I jump in surprise when Bianca is standing next to me with a smile. Rolling my eyes, I turn in the opposite direction and head to class. I don't get far as I feel her grab my wrist to stop me from walking. "Let go of me." I practically growl at her. She's quick to release my wrist and stares at me dumbfounded. "Oh, I almost forgot what your voice sounded like. Listen, I think we should sit down and have a talk during lunch. I- I miss you and our friendship." "Yeah f*****g right." I agree with the voice that keeps reappearing randomly. However, I am intrigued to hear what she has to say. "Fine," I mumble and turn around again to head to class. This time she doesn't stop me. Other than Bianca being weird, my classes go by as usual. Finally, it's lunch break and I'm slightly nervous to be sitting with my former best friend. Victoria and Layla are already sitting at the table with Bianca, along with a couple of guys. When she spots me with my tray, she waves me over with a huge smile on her face. I thought it was just going to be us two, but I guess she can't go anywhere without her posse. As I take a seat at her table, Bianca leans over and gives me a hug. I remain perfectly still, uncomfortable, and realize she's not going to let me go until I return the hug. Quickly doing so, I sigh in relief when her arms are off of me. "Kendra, right? I'm Jake. I don't think we have officially met yet." f*****g i***t. We've only been going to the same schools all of our lives and have had many classes together. "Jake!" Bianca hisses at her friend. "You know damn well that her name is Kylie. My best friend who I have missed dearly." Layla rolls her eyes at that statement and Victoria has a pained expression etched on her face. I don't think I have ever felt my uncomfortable in my entire life than I do at this moment. This was a bad idea. "So, I heard you work at Vander's bakery. Are you friends with Cameron now?" The voice inside my head starts laughing hysterically. "Oh. This explains the sudden interest in us." Us? I wonder to myself. I seriously need some mental help. The voice has a valid point though. She always had a crush on Cameron, but he never showed interest in Bianca. This is my moment to be smug, but should I? "We're more than friends," I say with a wink. Her face which had just shown kindness and curiosity has now twisted into pure rage and jealousy.
