If Cameron and Brandon weren't his students, how does he know them? I guess they had a popular reputation, so everyone knew them, even if they weren't their own students.
Still, I have to ask.
"So, how do you know them?" I question Mr. Fitzgerald.
"Your birthday is next Monday, correct?"
How the hell does he know that? I cross my arms and glare at the sexiest teacher I ever had. Seriously. How can one man be so good-looking and smart?
"Well? Answer me. Am I correct or is the information on your file not accurate?"
Ah, so that's how he knows.
"Why were you looking at my file?" I retort.
Rubbing his hands over his face, he replies, "You're stubborn, you know that?"
I grin at him in response.
"I won't keep you here any longer. I know you have to get to work."
I sigh softly and look away from him.
"Kylie?" I can tell from his voice that he's moved closer to me now, but I refuse to look up.
Using a finger, he gently lifts my chin up to look him in the eyes. Those beautiful brown eyes of his soften as he stares into mine.
"Please, talk to me."
"I... I can't. This is wrong. You're my teacher. You shouldn't care so much about me." I know all he did was ask me a simple question about work, but the more I talk to him, the more I want him.
My heart aches as those words escape my mouth. I WANT him to care about me, but I know he shouldn't. He'll lose his job, and I am not worth that.
His silence is deafening and I begin to walk out of the classroom. I can't stand to be around him any longer. My mind is running in circles. My feelings are overwhelmed and confused.
"Kylie, wait!" Mr. Fitzgerald rushes over to me.
"I know you're confused and have many questions in regards to me and the Vander brothers. I want to tell you everything, but I can't yet. What I can do is promise you this. Anything you want to ask or tell me, you can do so on Monday. I swear to answer your questions honestly."
"Fine." I huff, sounding like a bratty child. I don't understand why he can't just tell me now, but whatever. Maybe Cameron and Brandon will be straightforward with me.
"Have a good day, Miss Covington." And just like that, he switches back to teacher mode. Grabbing my bag off the desk, I head out the door.
As I walk past the bakery, I consider stopping by, but they look busy and I don't want to disturb them. Having Cameron's phone number, I'll just text or call him later tonight to talk.
Walking up the driveway, I notice Mom's car is gone. Good riddance. I was dreading having to deal with her attitude. She's probably at the hospital visiting Richard or at the bar.
Lounging in the living room, I turn on the television and flip through the channels until I find something entertaining to watch. I smile as I find Criminal Minds, my favorite show.
"Miss Kylie, would you like some coffee or something to eat?" Claudette, our maid asks.
"No, thank you. Would you like to take a break and watch a really good show with me? Henry can join us as well."
The look on her face is priceless.
"Oh, that is very kind of you to offer, but we couldn't possibly do so. Master Richard would be deeply displeased."
"He's not here though, so it can be our little secret."
"Thank you, ma'am, but there are cameras all over the house. We get paid to work, not lounge around. I do appreciate your kindness though." She smiles warmly at me before going back to whatever it is she was doing beforehand.
Daylight quickly fades as I binge watch and I am startled when I hear the doorbell. Who could possibly be here? If it was Mom or Richard, they would have just walked into the house.
I can hear Henry's voice and soon he enters the living room.
"Miss Kylie, there are two young gentlemen here to see you. They go by Brandon and Cameron. Should I allow them in or send them away?"
I jump quickly off the couch and rush to the door. Swinging it open, I see the Vander brothers... at my house.
