Knowing there's no point in arguing with me, Liam silently drives me home.
Most of the neighbors have returned to their homes and only a few cops linger around talking to my mom. With her arms crossed, she glares daggers in my direction.
"Who the f**k is this?" She oh so politely asks as Liam opens the car door for me like the gentleman he is.
"Jesus Christ, Mom. Can you at least pretend to be kind? This is my teacher, Mr. Fitzgerald. I asked him to pick me up from the police station because I didn't want to see or talk with you. Okay?"
"Is there a problem over here?" An officer asks as he approaches with another officer beside him.
"Yes, actually. This man kidnapped my daughter!" I bite my tongue as I see the one officer roll his eyes.
"Ma'am. I can assure you that is not true. I was at the station when Miss Covington made her phone call to him. If there is nothing else, we will be leaving now. Someone from the department will be in touch tomorrow. Have a good night."
Liam and I say good night to the officers while my mom stands there with her jaw agape.
"Thank you for the ride, Mr. Fitzgerald. I will see you tomorrow," I say, wanting him to get out of here before my mother accuses him of anything else. The looks he gives me makes me want to jump into his arms and never let go.
"Good night, Kylie." With hesitation, he eventually walks back to his car and leaves.
"Get your ass in the house. We need to talk." Mom hisses before she scurries inside. Ugh. I can't wait for this night to end.
Tension is thick as we sit across from one another on the kitchen barstools. I have nothing to say to this woman. After a long awkward silence, I start to get annoyed.
"Whatever you have to say, just say it. I have school tomorrow and want to go to sleep."
"I... never mind. Just go to bed. Seeing your face sickens me." With that said, she leaves the kitchen first and heads to her bedroom.
Grabbing a bottle of water, I proceed to my own room. "Don't scream. Okay?" My wolf quickly says as I turn the handle of the door. My confusion of her words disappears the second I see Cameron and Brandon sitting on my bed.
Tears begin to run down my face and I rush over to hug them.
"Shh, it's okay Kylie. Everything will be fine." Cameron rubs the back of my hair as I cry on his shoulder. Brandon rubs my back soothingly. I don't know what I did to deserve such good friends in such a short amount of time, but I wouldn't trade them for the world.
"Liam told us what happened, or at least whatever he knew," Brandon states.
My eyes widen in surprise. "Did he send you guys here to check on me?"
"Yes and no. We were coming anyway once we saw the news, but he called and asked us to stop by and inform him of anything that arises."
"So..you guys aren't mad that I know your secret? About being werewolves?"
Cameron starts to laugh, but Brandon remains serious.
"Why would we be mad? We were going to tell you anyway once you turn 18 and realize that you are one as well," Brandon states.
"Can I ask you guys questions since I didn't get a chance to talk to Liam much about it?"
"Of course, blueberry girl. Ask anything," Cameron smiles at me.
Whatever sleep I was planning on getting has completely vanished. I spent all night talking to my friends and learning everything about werewolves. We only get interrupted when the alarm on my phone goes off.
"Holy s**t! Kylie, I am so sorry. I didn't realize what time it was. Surely you will be excused for not attending classes today." Brandon says with concern.
Cameron and I simply stare at him in amusement from hearing him curse.
Shrugging my shoulders, "I'm not tired and I really shouldn't miss class my senior year. Plus, I can handle whatever nasty comments come my way from Bianca and her minions."
"Yeah, Brandon. Plus she wants to see Liam." Cameron says in a sing-song voice. I feel my cheeks burn up from blushing.
"Oh hush you." I playfully shove Cameron and he dramatically falls off the bed.
"Okay, okay. Let her be, Cameron. She needs to get ready for the day and we need to head to work."
Kylie, if you need us, for anything at all, please don't hesitate to call. Okay?" Brandon says with his serious expression.
"I promise. Thank you guys." I give them a hug before they jump out my bedroom window.
After a quick shower, I get dressed and ready for school. Hopefully, Mom is still sleeping and I won't have to see her as I leave the house.
Well, luck is not on my side as I hear her yelling at the coffee machine in the kitchen. Since shithead fired our staff, Mom has nobody to make her drinks or food.
As badly as I want to let her suffer and figure it out on her own, I'm not that mean. Placing my backpack on the kitchen counter, I walk over to her.
"Here, let me show you." I grab the coffee filter and as I go to place it in the machine, she slaps my hand away.
"I don't need your help! Get out!"
Throwing my hands up in a surrender motion, I grab my bag and rush out of the house.
