Prologue
He watched her from above, his beast seething with rage at the sight of his love happy with another.
The golden sun rays adorned her strawberry coloured hair as it cascaded down her back in wavy locks, swaying side by side as she giggled mirthfully.
"You better not drop me, Lucas!" The cheerful girl jumped onto the much taller boy, strapping her slender legs around his waist and straddling him.
"I would never drop a pretty princess like you." The boy gazed at her as he slowly spun around, his sky blue eyes saturated with adoration. The setting was just perfect, the gentle breeze caressed his skin and the lingering evening heat warmed his heart. The park had always been her sanctuary, especially when she needed some time away from her strict mother.
Lucas loved taking her here, where they could sprawl on the bed of green, healthy blades of grass and listen to the chirps of water birds for hours. The translucent lake water reflected the orange-red radiance of the setting sun as the most beautiful girl in Ralcun city laughed hysterically.
Lucas smiled, securing her in his scrawny arms. He never understood what she saw in a poor, low-class boy like him.
They were just eleven and she called him her best friend, but he wanted to be more than friends, he loved her wholeheartedly, his love for her was versatile, took every form love could take.
He, the feared one, could tell that Lucas loved her.
The young barely pubescent boy was a threat to him.
He should not have stared at her in such a manner.
Lucas did not know that she was promised to him;
The legendary Son of The Moon.
She was betrothed to him from the second she took her first breath.
She was his and his only.
He stared on, aboil with indignation, his beast growled, his sharp claws jetted out, ready to slaughter.
"Kill."
"Kill."
"Kill."
"Spill his blood!"
His mind fabricated infernal evil as his beast listed all ways he could bring the puny boy to a heinous, excruciatingly painful death. He could feel himself transforming into more of a monster.
Control.
He needed to control himself. She was not ready to face him yet.
"Oh I'm so dizzy, you can put me down now Lucas." The world around her spinning, she wrapped her slim arms around his neck to find balance.
"Oh-oh we're going down, abort ship!" The dorky boy made all sorts of cartoon impressions as he deliberately collapsed on the ground.
"You are so silly Lucas." Her emerald green eyes glimmered with joy as she rolled on the grass, the boy following her.
"I love you Blaire." The boy blurted out.
Blaire.
"How dare he?!" The beast rumbled, his ragged panting mixing with low, feral growls. "My Blaire, MINE!"
"Kill."
"Kill."
"Make his blood spill." The beast chanted repeatedly, his long canines dripping with the blood of his last kill. He was thirsty for more. For Lucas'.
"I love you too, you cute dork." Blaire smiled blissfully. Lucas was her very first friend to last more than a few months. Her mother did not like all her friends, thus she discouraged her from forming friendships with other kids.
"Wil-will y-you be my girlfriend, Blaire?" Lucas stuttered nervously, so anxious to hear her response, his palms were sweating.
The girl immediately frowned, nervously tugging at the skirt of her pink, floral summer dress.
She was contemplating.
She did not know whether to tell him the secret or not.
"You should never tell anyone our secret or mommy will be in a lot of trouble, is that clear Blaire?" Her mother's words rang in her mind, words she had religiously told her every single day since she was a child, before she could even formulate comprehensible words of her own.
"Uhmm.. Lucas…" Blaire bit onto her bottom lip, looking around before she leaned into him. "I have to tell you something, it's a secret.. please promise me you won't tell anyone, please." She pleaded.
She did not want to let her mommy to get into trouble, but the secret was too heavy for her to be carrying alone and Lucas was her best friend, he was the only one she trusted to keep such a secret.
Lucas nodded and right then, the beast knew it would feed on his blood in the depth of the night. "I promise you, Blaire, my lips are sealed and I have thrown away the key… but please give me an answer after you tell me or I'll piss my pants."
He was cute, she grinned at how nervous and shaky he was.
"Okay come closer," she pulled his earflap to her lips, "I can't be your girlfriend because mommy told me I am promised to The Son of The Moon and that when I am old enough I am going to marry him and move to his palace in a kingdom called Amborwa to be his queen."
"What?!" The boy exclaimed, he had never heard anything more absurd. "The Son of The Moon is a myth, Blaire, he does not exist, you can't marry something that does not exist, silly!"
"Ohh.." Blaire recoiled, assaulted by regret and embarrassment. She knew telling him was a bad idea, now he was most likely assuming she was crazy, like all her previous friends thought she and her mother were. "Mommy said he is real, I swear and that he will come for me when the time is right and I must accept him or the-"
"Shut your little mouth right now!" Her mother appeared out of nowhere and roughly grasped onto her wrist. She was very furious and nothing short of terrifying in such a state. "What did you tell him, huh! I told you never to tell anyone our secret, are you that stupid Blaire!" Jessica snarled at her young daughter, she knew The feared one was not going to be happy with her.
She was not ready to pay because of her daughter's loose tongue and stupidity.
She could not sacrifice another soul to him. She had sacrificed enough.
"Stupid little girl!" With a forceful lug, she pulled her from the ground and glared at the frightened boy. "Do you realise what you have done, Blaire?!"
"I'm so sorry mommy." The girl sobbed as her mother dragged her to the car. "He promised not to tell anybody, I am so sorry mommy, I promise I will not tell anyone again."
"You damn right you will not!" Jessica slammed the door shut and quickly hopped into the car. "Do you know what will happen if you anger him?"
Blaire nodded lightly. She was well aware that the king she was arranged to marry was one not to be angered or provoked at all. For the consequences would be extremely dire.
"I know mommy." The girl wept into her palms as her mother stabbed the key into the ignition and the engine roared viciously.
"You did not let Lucas kiss you, right? Blaire, look at me when I'm talking to you!" Jessica could already imagine his wrath. Without a doubt, she knew he was watching. The Son of The Moon was always watching.
Blaire gave him brief side glances, she was too ashamed to look her mother in the eyes. "No, Lucas did not kiss me, mommy, no one has ever kissed me." She whimpered, promising herself never to allow temptation entice her to disobeying her mother.
"Good girl. You know who your lips and innocence are reserved for, right sweetie?" Jessica took a more lenient, softer tone. She too did not favour her harsh parenting methods, but she had to be strict, not to upset him.
Blaire nodded yet again, her eyes falling to her exposed thighs. "Yes mommy, only my future husband can kiss me, my innocence is reserved for the King of Amborwa." Blaire recited the same lines she always offered as answer every time her mother asked her such a question.
Which she has been asking her since she was six, until her destiny was engraved in her mind.
"And who is your future husband, my love?" The sweetness in her voice was far from sincere, she was merely indoctrinating her, as she always did.
"The Son of The Moon, he is my future husband." She whispered, digesting what Lucas had told her.

Jessica brewed some tea and attended to a few of her £-mails as she awaited his call. It was a few minutes past midnight and she had ensured that Blaire was sound asleep and she had looked her bedroom door, just in case.
She did not want to risk Blaire eavesdropping on her conversation with the Feared One, like she did two years ago and heard things too large for her small ears and mind. Jessica loved her daughter, but she become an overbearing liability the second she opened her eyes to the world. As long as he wanted her, she would never live in peace.
The kettle expelled a strident whistle and she quickly turned off the stove and poured the hot fluid into a mug.
"Any minute now." She mumbled to herself as she settled down on the couch yet again and stared at her phone.
At exactly thirty minutes past midnight, her phone rang. The beast was very punctual, his calls were never even a minute late.
"Hello?" Jessica could not recognise the number, but she was certain it was him.
"You have disappointed me, Jessica." The beast growled deeply and she shrank into the leather couch, clutching onto the armrest for dear life. "My beautiful Blaire has told another that she loves him, do you know how much that angered my beast and I, do you!"
Oh how terrifying he was! The one never seen by a single living soul.
He should not be angered.
"Forgive me, great one, King of Amborwa, I promise you, that shall not happen again, please accept my forgiveness." The woman pleaded not just for herself, but for all the innocent souls he will tortur€ just for compensation.
"You have been forgiven, but I demand another sacrifice. Keep my future bride in line, Blaire is mine and I want you to relocate to Bervon in the next two days, do you understand Jessica?!"
"Of course, great one, I understand fully" Her voice trembled along with her hands. "I will keep her in line, thank you for your mercy, Feared One."
If it meant leaving her lavish lifestyle in the city behind and moving to a small country oceans away, to appease him, she would.
The beast smiled, the need for his beautiful future bride ravaged him from within.
"Soon." His beast whispered. "Soon, my Blaire, I shall call you."
A promise he made to himself and this sleeping beauty … he will come for her on her eighteenth birthday and whisk her away to his palace.
First chapter, would love to know what you think!
