Chapter 3

4048 Words
My name being called was the last thing I heard before my body was whisked away into a strange land. I screamed and fought the current of the air and landed face first onto the ground. I pushed myself up to sit on my heels as I turned my head to look around at where I landed. I think it’s safe to say I’m not in 'Kansas' anymore, or in my case Washington. The grass-if you could call it that -  was not green, it was silver. I noticed that there was a play on color here. Everything was either grey, white or navy. The trees had navy colored leaves with white to grey colored barks. The sky was a dark navy blue with sprinkles of silver stars littered around and the moon was big and shining as bright as the sun.  I pushed myself off the ground and brushed the dirt off me while spitting whatever I ate from my landing out. I clapped my hands together, removing the last of the weird sand colored dirt and walked past the tree line and into a field full of grey-silvered grass and white colored flowers. My legs moved on their own as if they had a purpose. I was so engrossed in the scenery that I didn’t even realize that I had walked on to somebody’s property. I followed the bridge that took me to the inner walls of the castle. The castle itself was elegant and had a sharp design. It was layered with what looks like white marble but the closer I got to it, I realized they were just white bricks and stone. I followed the outer walls of the castle until I reached a walkway that connected one part of the castle to the other. Making my way to stand in the middle of it, I contemplated on which side I wanted to look inside first. I decided to go left when my feet took me right, as if it already had a destination in mind. The door pulled open and a maid walked out with a paper in her hand, reading it. I stepped to the side, making sure I didn’t get in her way and squeezed through the already open door.  The ceilings were tall on the inside and the floors were lined with navy colored carpet. Golden dishes with white colored flames burned along the walls, lighting up the insides of the castle. I took a one-eighty spin to look around and stopped when I heard muffled whispers coming from the corner. Sliding myself along the wall, I slowly made my way towards the end of it when a young woman in a maid outfit walked straight through me.  My breath hitched at having my insides being pulled with her. I turned to see if she felt it too but she kept on walking as if nothing had happened. I walked backwards only to have two more maids walk past me while they were carrying a conversation. One laughed while the other looked at her in horror at what she just said. I pressed my back against the wall, not wanting to have others walk through me again, shuddering at the feeling that comes with it.  The hallway led me to a set of stairs and I felt something call to me at the top. I climbed the stairs, one step at a time until I reached the top. There were six doors in this hall and I can only assume that these are bedrooms from the cries of a child. I walked towards the sound of the crying babe and entered it’s room.  The room had silver décor and white oak for furniture. From the frills at the edge of the bed and the abundance of dolls on its bed, it seems that this room belongs to a female child. I walked further into the room and noticed a little girl no older than one or two sitting in the corner. I brushed my fingers on her cheeks, wanting to wipe away her tears when my fingers phased through her. I retracted my hand back to my chest and stared at her. She had black hair and golden-hazel eyes. Her lashes were long and her cheeks were red from crying.  “There you are”, said a woman frantically as she entered the room. The lady looked just like her except with longer hair. She exudes a certain kind of confidence that made you shrivel back with a sense of insecurity. She made you feel small and weak just by looking at her, she was like a Goddess in her own right. The power that rolled off of her was raw, dark and light. It was like standing next to a fallen power line.  “I’ve been looking everywhere for you, I thought they took you from me”, she cooed as she rocked her child. “Come, let’s wait for your father to return”. She lifted the girl into her arms and walked towards the window. They both stared up into the moon and an iridescent glow radiated off them. Her eyes closed as the moon bathed her in its light and her power grew.  “Diana”, a voice deep and gruff broke through the room.  She turned, slowly opening her eyes with a wide smile on her face, “Fenrir”, she called to him. He made his way towards her, his body covered in black armor and his brown locks bounced and swayed with every step. His eyes golden like a wolf, stared back at her with love and intensity. My eyes landed on the breastplate of the armor that had a wolf and phases of the moon surrounding it. He took his swords out from its holder and set it down next to Diana on the window sill, reaching for the girl.  “How are you feeling, my love?” He asked.  “Well, and yourself?” as she lifted her hands to brush the stray hairs away from his eyes.  “Good”, he replied with a slight crack in his voice.  “Fenrir?” Her head tilted in question. “I know when you lie, tell me. What news have you heard? Any movements from their side?”  “No, nothing”, he said while looking up at her. “That’s what scares me the most, not knowing when they will attack”.  Diana walked to stand next to Fenrir and leaned her head down onto his arm. I could feel the love they have for their child as they looked down at her. The babe would coo and they both giggled at the sound. I watched as they poked at her nose and played with her knowing from just watching that she is well loved and taken care off. I wanted to leave and give them their privacy but I felt this longing to be with them.  Fenrir stuck his finger out for the child when a howl from a wolf could be heard. His head perked up as his brows met in worry and Diana’s face dropped, afraid that something big was coming.  “Here, take our daughter and run”, Fenrir ordered as he handed their daughter back to Diana, once the babe was secured, he cupped Diana’s face and placed a passionate kiss onto her lips. He pulled back, inches away from her.  “What about you?” She asked, worried.  “I’ll be fine. I know how to take care of them”, he said with a smug grin on his face. “I promise, I’ll find you and our daughter again. I love you”. He gave her one last kiss and a wolf the size of a horse broke through the window. The wolf bowed its head at Fenrir first then at Diana.  “Hadik, take them to the human realm. Find the Sun and the Moon, they will protect them”. The wolf nodded and lowered itself down for Diana.  “Fenrir-”.  “No, Diana. This is the only to keep you and our babe safe. She will be much safer in the human realm than she will be with us here”. He lifted Diana by the waist and placed her onto Hadik’s back. Hadik stood himself up and jumped out the way he came, running towards the trees and disappearing into the forest.  Fenrir jumped out the window and an arrow shot him in the back as soon as he landed. He turned with fury in his eyes and shifted into the biggest wolf I had ever seen. He stood at least 15 feet tall with his midnight fur and golden eyes. He huffed and pawed at the ground before launching himself at the cavalry of men who were shooting arrows at him. Screams could be heard before he leaped up and landed on the men underneath. The stench of iron filled the air as blood seeped into the land.    He growled and barked as a wall of white flames appeared, separating him from the army that was coming this way. He turned his head and looked at the window where I was at and growled. It was as if he could see me and I felt his power slither over my skin. His growling filled my head, weakening me, almost bringing me to my knees.  “Run. They’re coming”, he growled and my head started to spin. High pitch ringing invaded my thoughts and I grit my teeth as the pain in my head grew. Tears filled my eyes and I squeezed them shut, screaming from the pain. My head felt like it was being eaten by fire ants from the inside out. “Stop!” I yelled. “Make it stop!” As I placed my hands onto my ears, squeezing my head. “Stop it!” I cried out, unable to take the pain any longer. I felt a hand grab onto my shoulder and I jumped backwards, falling onto my bum. I opened my eyes to see Zahruk’s emerald ones staring into me.  “Zahruk”, my voice raspy as my lips quivered. “What happened?” “You lost consciousness for about a minute and then you started screaming”. He stroked the stray hairs away from my face and placed a hand onto my back, pulling me up to sit. “What happened, Elira? I could feel your despair through the bond”.  I looked at him puzzled at what he just said. Sure, he’s a fae but growing up in the Sun would mean he should understand how a mating bond works. He shouldn’t be able to feel my emotions before marking me. There should only be undeniable lust and attraction for one another, nothing more than that.  “What do you mean you can feel it through the bond? You shouldn’t be able to feel it, I haven’t fully accepted you as my mate and there’s also the fact that we haven’t marked one another”.  He flinched with sudden realization, his face went from worried to amused. “Maybe it’s because we’ve connected through the Alpha ceremony?” “It doesn’t work like that. The Alpha ceremony only links you with the pack mentally, not emotionally or when someone is in distress. If that were the case then an Alpha wouldn’t last a day with the stress that his pack holds”.  “Well, maybe we’re just meant to be”, he flirted.  “Oh, stop it!” I hit his arm playfully before standing myself up. I reached my hand out for him to grab and he pulled me down onto his lap. I yelped and someone cleared their throat causing our heads to turn.   Dr Souma stood by the door awkwardly before slowly entering the room. I stood up again and stepped back from Zahruk, earning a deep growl from him. His jaw ticked as he stared at me, pissed that I moved away from him as another male entered the room. “Dr Souma!” I greeted as I tucked a strand of my hair back behind my ear.  “Is everything okay? I heard screaming”, he asked concern while looking at the three of us nervously.  Zahruk stood up from the ground and walked to stand behind me. He placed a hand on my waist and pulled me back against his chest. “Everything is fine”, he said through gritted teeth.  “Don’t mind him, he’s just a little upset because he forgot his Snickers bar at home”. I smiled at him. “Anyway, we will be on our way now and will be taking-”. I looked over at the fae, not knowing what to call him. “I’m sorry what is your name?”  “Torin”, he replied sheepishly.   “We will be taking Torin with us”, I said, finishing my sentence while looking back at Dr Souma. I pried Zahruk’s hand off my waist and made my way to stand next to Dr Souma.  “Well, I guess I will see you on your next working day”.  “Do you have to come back here?!” Zahruk’s voice boomed. “I mean, if you really want to work in healthcare there’s always the pack hospital”.  “Well if I do that, then the humans who come in contact with beings like us would fall under their spell. Especially if it’s a vampire or a s*x demon”.  “They won’t even bother coming near here now that I’m here”, he said with full confidence.  “But this isn’t part of your territory. It's a free game for anyone that wants it”. I shrugged. His jaw ticked again and gold swirled in his eyes.  “Don't argue with me, Elira", he growled.  "Or what? You're gonna bite me?" I joked. With the amount of power that he was releasing into this room, I should've been on my knees but instead, it felt as if feathers were tickling my skin. I smirked, knowing that his authority did nothing on me will only rile him up.    "I forbid you to come back here, Elira”. His voice deep with a sense of authority. I could feel the Alpha bond tug on me, pulling me to obey. I buried that feeling deep inside me with rage. I get that the mate bond is making him jealous and irrational but this is taking it a little too far. He cannot just tell me when and where to go. This is the reason why I didn’t look forward to being mated. The Goddess of the Moon and Wolves can take back her gift, I don’t want a mate that controls me. I don’t belong and can’t be controlled by anyone, I am my own person.   “Don’t you dare tell me what I can or cannot do. Just because you’re Alpha and jealous doesn’t mean you can abuse your authority”, I scolded him.  “Elira-”.  “No, Zahruk. I don’t want to hear it”, I said cutting him off. I grabbed Torin by the arm and dragged him out of the hospital to my car. I fumbled with the keys in my pocket before getting a hold on it to unlock the car. Opening the back door, I shoved Torin into the backseat slamming it when I saw Zahruk huffing down towards me.  “Elira, don’t you dare walk away from me”, he growled out.  “Or what? You’re gonna put me in one of those torture rooms underneath the pack house?” I stared up with anger fresh on my face. He closed the distance between the two of us and I could feel his hot breath fan my skin.  “I’m your Alpha and your mate”. His lips curled up, showing his pearly whites.  “Who says I’m your mate? I never accepted, plus you slept with my roommate before realizing that I was your mate instead of her! I smelt you through those walls, why couldn’t you have smelt me?” I was provoking him and didn't care. His nose flared in anger and he pushed me back against the car, trapping me in between his arms. His hand pulled on the hair at the back of my head, forcing me closer to him. He leaned down onto my neck, inhaling my scent and his irises had gold swirling in with his green.  “Who said I didn’t smell you? I f*****g smelt you and yet I still f****d Abby mercilessly. I bet you liked hearing me f**k her didn’t you?” The corner of his lips lifted into a malicious grin. “She took my c**k better than any b***h I have ever f****d before. Maybe I should run back to Abby”. He licked my neck and I shuddered at the feel of his tongue. His teeth grazed my skin and my body heated with lust as the grip on my hair tightened. I was pissed and horny at the same time when the familiar prick of tears from the back of my eyes threatened to fall. I never wanted him in the first place. So why? Why am I standing here about to cry my eyes out at the man who I don’t even know sleeping with Abby? Why does my chest hurt so much that it hurts to breathe? Why?  I looked up into his eyes and felt myself melt into them. I wanted him raw, wild, untamed and I wanted him to destroy me. To claim me as his until I can’t feel anything but his touch on me. I’ve never wanted anything more than I want him at this moment. But there was also a part of me that didn’t want him at all and that part of me surfaced like a phoenix rising from the ashes.  “f**k you, Zahruk”, I seethed through my teeth. “f**k you! You can walk your Alpha ass home”. I felt an unknown power awakened inside me and pushed him back. He went flying into the ground with a thud and I took that opportunity to enter my car and drive off. I looked at the rearview mirror to see him chasing the car down and I stepped onto the gas. He shifted into his wolf and ran alongside the car beside me.  “Stop the car, Elira”, he mind-linked me.  I stuck my tongue out at him and stepped harder onto the pedal, determined to lose him this time.  “You know, if I’m not mistaken, I think you like His Highness”, Torin said from the backseat.  “As if”, I scoffed. “He’s arrogant and cocky and horrible! I thought he was different but I was wrong”.  “If I may ask, why are you so angry?”  I flinched at his sudden question. Why was I angry? I couldn’t think of any reason except for that he’s my mate. “If I may cut through your thoughts, I think you’re afraid of commitment”, said Torin.  “What?” I whipped my head back to look at him and swerved onto the opposite lane and back.  “Elira! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!” Zahruk yelled in my head.  “Think about it, you like His Highness but you’re afraid of committing to him. He slept with Abby while you were in the next room, knowing that the scent wasn’t Abby’s. You just don’t trust him as your lover, as a person and ally, yes but as someone to spend the rest of your life with? I don’t think so”. Goddamn, maybe he is right. It’s not like I hated him, but the thought of having him as a mate pissed me off. I guess if he wants me, he’ll need to earn me first.  We pulled into the front of the main pack house with Beta Yu and Zakil waiting for us outside. I put the car in park and took Torin out of the backseat. Zakil walked over towards us and a pair of cuffs appeared on Torin.  “Those are iron cuffs. Obey me and I won’t have to take out the rest of my collection”, said Zakil. He turned towards me and bent his head down to look inside my car. “Where’s Zahruk?”  “I don’t know, on a run somewhere”, I scoffed. I pulled my car door open when Zahruk’s wolf appeared in the driveway. He growled and Beta Yu knelt down as his power rolled off him in intimidating waves. I stood my grounds with it having little to no affect on me.  “Why haven’t you gone on your knees?" Zakil asked curiously.  “I’m not planning on sucking d**k. Why are you not on your knees?” I countered.  “Because I’m stronger than him”.  “Okay, well tell him I’m leaving and that he can eat s**t”. Zakil chuckled and I opened the door again to get in for real this time.  “Elira!” Zahruk yelled. His voice sounded closer now. I turned to see him naked and immediately turned my head away. “Don’t look away from me!” “You’re f*****g naked!” I said while trying to hide a cheeky smile. I could hear footsteps coming towards me when fingers grasped onto my chin, forcing me to look up at him. The gold in his eyes swirled rampant, leaving no room for the green. His breathing labored as he looked down at me as his eyes trailed down to my lips.  He leaned down hesitantly before his lips crashed onto mine. There was fire, there was heat and there was passion as our lips molded with one another. His hands cupped my cheeks as he inhaled my scent and his tongue dragged along my bottom lip before pushing past it. He shoved me back towards the car as our tongues went to war with one another. My hands gripped onto his shirt and pulled him towards me. He growled possessively into the kiss and my knees went weak with need.  “Don’t run away from me again”, he said breathlessly as he pulled away from my lips. Our chest heaved with the need to feel one another again when he stepped away from me. “I have business to attend to tonight. I require your presence at the Main Packhouse by ten tomorrow. Don’t be late”, he warned as he grabbed my hands, placing a soft kiss on the back.  I watched as Zakil took Torin into the house with Zahruk and Beta Yu following closely behind. I entered my car and drove towards my family house, dreading the memories that comes with it.
