8 Early the next morning, Makayla made her way down the staircase. A frown creased her brow when she didn’t hear her grandfather. She glanced down at Breaker who paused on the step next to her and looked up with an expectant expression. “Where’s the old man this morning? I thought it was your turn to keep an eye on him,” she teased. She turned and walked through the dining room to the kitchen.
