The King Is Unfathomable

Dean POV

Crying and screaming echoed the whole village, the villagers returned empty handed.

They tried their best but they couldn't trap any wolves. There was fear all around, tomorrow one family from our village is going to die.

"We all need to be ready for tomorrow's day, it can be anyone's last day today so we need to stay together and spend some time as we don't know which family will be chosen to be dead". Our head said with tears In his eyes.

I returned to my place, Rieka was sitting near the window, "I was waiting for you Dean",she said.

"Had your dinner?", I asked her as I was concerned about her.

"No not yet, I would like to have it with you",. She said with a smile.

"What happened Today in my absence?",

"Today no women's worked there was total silence, may be they were afraid of what going to happen next"

"They are afraid, all of us are afraid",

"The king is unfathomable",

"We don't know what will be his next step", I said.

"The king is very wicked",she said with anger.

"Truly he is", I replied.

"We are all gathering today near the fire. We will be sleeping together, as no one knows this is going to be whose last night here in this village".

Rieka and I joined the villagers near the fire. We sang a few sad songs about unhappiness around, no one was happy, the kids were crying.

Mother's were holding their kids tight in their arms, as the king has no mercy towards the kids too.

Reika slept on my chest holding my hand tight,

"Don't worry everything will be ok by tomorrow", she said.

"Hope so!!, Good night Rieka"

"Good night Dean!!", We both wished each other and slept.

Rieka POV

After Dean left to collect food for tonight's dinners, the whole village was silent; it looked like no one existed here.

Everyone locked themselves in their houses waiting for their husbands, father's or brothers to arrive.

I felt bad for the villagers, I felt terrible inside as I knew that they were in this situation just because of me, and I couldn't do anything to save these poor villagers.

I sat near the window and waited for Dean.

I was holding the pendant in my hand and wished that everyone should be safe.

As I knew that tomorrow because of me one family is going to die.

I had prepared dinner for Dean, his aunt told me he liked pot roast, and in the sweet dish apple pie, I took the recipe from his aunt and prepared his favourite dish.

After 4 hours Dean returned home with a sad look on his face, I knew why he was so sad.

I told him to have dinner, he sat on the dining table, I served him food on his plate, while having dinner, he told me that today all villagers will be sleeping together, so he told me to join in.

After having dinner we headed towards the villagers, we chatted a bit, sang sad songs,

I saw tears in every villager's eyes.

The villagers hugged everyone, I gave Dean A very tight hug, I slept on his chest, he held me very tight in his arms.

I felt safe near him, I assured him that everything is going to be ok.

Helena POV

It has now been 3 days. Rieka has not returned home, i tried to follow the traces but after a few miles the traces disappeared.

Rieka is my younger sister. I need to find her.

After her parents death it is my duty to take her responsibility. I hope she is ok!!!.
