Author’s Note This story obviously owes a lot to Edgar Allan Poe—I like to think that he wouldn’t mind me having some fun with this interpretation! “Eldorado” is the main source poem, of course, but there are other Poe references sprinkled throughout, and a few nods to other classic poets with ghostly themes. As far as the playlist for this one, it’s probably best read by candlelight, safe and snug in a cozy armchair, with someone reciting “The Raven” or “Telltale Heart” in the background—though certain songs wouldn’t be out of place, like “George Romero” by The Sprites, “Black Magic” by Little Mix, “This Magic Moment” by The Drifters, and “Tonight, Tonight,” by the Smashing Pumpkins.
