Chapter 6 Both James and Christian slept late the following morning. No-one could blame them. When at last they did step foot out of the hut the bear was nothing more than a dark patch of dried blood on the dirt by their hut. The village women had been and divided the meat up, some of which James could now smell cooking on nearby fires. After a small meal to take the hunger pangs away Christian and James set about cleaning the skin. Both took a small sharp edged flint and began to scrape. James remembered the instruction to the girl called Jess. Not so much pressure. You’ll tear the skin. “Don’t tell me you’ve done this before?” said Christian. “That’s a perfect job.” “It’s not that difficult,” James replied stepping back to observe his handiwork. “So what are you going to do with it?
